Another health emergency here. :# My arm started swelling up on Friday (the 26th). Went to urgent care and was sent to ER from there. Multiple blood clots in my arm, oddly, from the IV from surgery earlier in the month. Even though they are superficial veins they are treating as if a DVT due to the number of clots. Bisky,…

I'm beat, but we're on the downward slope to Saturday. I've been catching up on the work backlog brought on by my gallbladder party. I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My daughter works at the same company as me, and our friend (daughter's best friend) was fired on Monday. It's been hard to stay positive at…

Wowser, it's been busy here! I am feeling great - was able to go camping this weekend, trying out our "new to us" little camper. So relaxing, but I'm fighting fatigue today and not motivated to make anything. Thank goodness for leftovers! Mihani, Fresh Thyme has the best produce in town. Great variety, fresh and the best…

Mihani, summer colds can be so uncomfortable. Enjoy the hot toddy and feel better. I will check to see if the Good Foods brand is available here. We have a couple stores that focus on healthier options so I'll check those first. **Editing to add - I just checked Good Foods store locator and several stores in our area have…

Back at work - tired, but the day went well. It'll be an early night for me. SparkSpring, the Almond Chipotle Sauce does have oil in it. It's the third ingredient behind water and almonds. We live 60 miles from our TJs - I try to go once a month. The Moosewood cookbook comes from the restaurant? Mollie Katzen looks very…

Quick check-in to report on my post-op lab. Two of my pre-surgery Liver Panel numbers were off the charts. Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) was 472 on July 8th and today was 77 (normal range is 8 - 45). The Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) was 185 on July 8th and today was well within the normal range at 26. Woot! Breakfast:…

Today: Lots of food prep w/ sous chef hubby. Breakfast: Chickpea omelet (need a new nonstick pan, it stuck badly, even with cooking spray on the second try.) It was okay, but bland. I'll increase the spices. Lunch: Veggie sandwich w/hummus and fresh veg. Supper: Veggie burger and air fried "pizza" fries, homemade ketchup.

Well, hello. :) Gallbladder is gone and I'm healing up nicely. Diverticulitis flare up is in check. Liver is not in good shape - my blood tests in hospital were off the charts - better at discharge but still way too high. That will be addressed next week at follow-up appt. In the meantime, I stocked up on foods that help…

Hi friends, jumping on to say I’ll be out for a while. Have been seriously sick this week and went to ER today to make sure it wasn’t my heart. It wasn’t but I will have my gallbladder removed tomorrow. Also have a diverticulitis infection. I’m a mess right now. I was supposed to pick my niece up from the airport this…

I'm sure we've all seen the news that John McDougall died in his sleep a few days ago. He was a profound voice for the WFPB lifestyle. I read that he had a massive stroke at age 18 and this impacted his health for the rest of his life. A good man. bisky, the doctor/surgeon said that my husband's lymph nodes were clear, but…

Today, as most days, I brought my lunch to keep it healthy. I totally forgot that the boss was catering Qdoba for staff and had already eaten. That's a win! I went in after lunch and made a bowl with beans, fresh pico, corn salsa, green salsa, and some guac. I'll have it for lunch tomorrow. Daughter and I are getting in…

I love all the pup pics! We miss our Tucker and look forward to getting another dog in the next phase of life (now in an apartment while we reno the family home up north). bisky, please feel free to pm!

Hi Sue and welcome! It is wonderful that you and your spouse are like minded! I am not very consistent with checking in with the group, but I do love the support and ideas shared here. Mihani, I must try balsamic on sweet potato - sounds delicious! I am curious if anyone in this group has a diagnosis of diabetes. Since my…

Well hello everyone! I think I last posted in back in Magical May - before or after husband's prostate surgery? He had excellent care in the hospital and lymph nodes were clean. Hurray! Unfortunately, he's miserable right now as the incontinence is much worse than he bargained for. It will last for 3 to 18 months. I've…

Good morning all. It's been a few days since I last logged on. Great recipe tips - thanks all! Magic, I love mashed potatoes - I will try it with spinach! And can't wait to try the refried beans recipe. Yum. Bisky, I like your cheater meal ideas. Mihani, your Big 'Ol Salad of May 19th sounds delicious. The combination of…

Thanks for your encouragement and suggestions! A good "shot in the arm". Bisky, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February and will have a prostatectomy this next week. One of the biopsy scores was a 9 (aggressive), the others were 7s so the doctor said the prostate had to go. Where in the journey is your…

Hello everyone - I have not posted in this group for years, but the desire to return to plant based has been more and more on my mind. I decided to pop in to read posts for motivation and boy did I find it! Magic, the very first post of May, about your parents, hit me profoundly. We just buried my sister, age 72. Type2D,…

Hello all! I haven't been here for quite a long time, but during a rather tough 2021 I let my health slip into "last place". I decided it's time to get back to eating as close to WFPB as I can. I've been at it for about 3 weeks and feeling good. I have built up an arsenal of tools to make eating healthy easier like quality…

It certainly was worth it! The pie was delicious and how many more opportunities do we have to sit and enjoy pie with dad? Special times.

Back from father-in-law's (93) and as mentioned earlier today, he's usually up to trouble. We drove up to the house and there sat a 1952 MG convertible kit car newly purchased from an auction. What a guy! He loved the key lime pie. Did you know that an Edward's Key Lime Pie has 450 calories per slice? Yes. Yes it does.

Wow! This thread moves at lighting speed! :D Headed up north (we live in Minnesota) to check on father-in-law today - 93 yrs young and always getting into trouble. Bringing his favorite lunch along including his new favorite, key lime pie. Hoping to get a walk in on his lovely country lane!

Hi all - I just found this thread! August is half over, but I hit the restart button this past week with a goal of losing 45 pounds by end of May 2021. My metabolism isn't what it used to be, so I'm not sure 1.1 lbs a week is attainable, but I'm gonna give it a shot. Our son is getting married this next summer and I'd like…

Hi all. I'm jumping in for the first time. I have not been following my plan at all for the last couple months and I've watched my weight creep up. I decided it was time to log in and get re-motivated! Looking forward to meeting you all! Jacque Central Minnesota

Have you considered upping your calories a couple days a week? It might wake up your metabolism.

Hello everyone. What a crazy few weeks! I ended up with the same intestinal virus as my DH. Thankfully, I did not need a hospital stay, but I did end up with a secondary issue of a bout with diverticulitis. Having had this once before, I recognized what was happening and got on antibiotics early. DH has been back to work…

Hi all, I’ve been busy with husband who ended up in the hospital with an infection in his small intestine. A rough few days. Will connect soon.

Oh, and Mihani, I did change my name! And I guess it's here to stay as they only let you change once. ;)

Mihani, thanks for the note on ordering straight from McDougall's site. I'm hoping to place an order this week. He has a really nice variety! In the meantime, I picked up a box of ramen noodles (no spice packs) and will make my own broths this week. Thanks for sharing the recipe for Punchy Mustard Dressing, too. Sounds…

Ditto! Thanks for the info on ordering from Dr. M's website! Convenience is the difference between staying on plan and blowing it.

Hi all, and long time no "see". I have been off of MFP for quite awhile, and not at all on WFPB eating. :# I actually tried Keto this Fall (with disastrous results, healthwise) and realized one day that I really missed the good food and good feelings of the WFPB lifestyle. So, I'm back in the saddle again. I am following…
