  • My philosophy is if you're not hungry, don't eat. If it's not a usual occurance, and if you're anything like me, you will probably make up those calories with an ill-advised piece of chocolate cake later in the week, or something.

  • When you go out, have the salad, but ask for the dressing on the side. I dip my fork in the dressing, then stab up some veggies. Yummy, and you will find you eat a LOT less dressing that way! Same with sauce and gravy!!
  • I sort of do this as a means to control my cravings and boredom eating. I pre-plan my main meals (breakfast, lunch, supper) and then eat them spread out throughout the day. Does that make sense? So today I planned eggs and a banana for breakfast, which I ate two hours apart, some trail mix for a snack at 11, then lunch…
  • I think it doesn't really matter, as long as you're aware that you're tracking the proper thing. For instance, don't weigh your raw chicken then log it as cooked chicken. I usually weigh everything after it's cooked, mostly because I cook for more than one person and I find it really hard to keep my weighed portion…
  • Soooo if i drink distilled water, does it count as water?
  • I drink it all the time. My office has a wildly variant climate, so when it's too cold to drink water I drink all kinds of flavoured herbal and green tea. I don't think it has any metabolizing effects or anything, though. The main benefit is the water intake.
  • Psyllium Fiber. No joke. But make sure you add it JUST before you're going to drink it, or you will have goo on your hands!
  • Aaaaaagreed! Here's what I do: I have combated this by spreading my snacks and meals out to even intervals throughout the day. This is what my day usually looks like: 8am - Breakfast 9:30-10am - banana 11am - protein snack noon - lunch, and I usually creep on here, so I make sure it takes me the whole hour to eat. I find…
  • Hrm. I learned something! I was going to make a smart-mouth responce involving the fact that all food boosts your metabolism, but I see that some of you suggest NO food boosts metabolism, rather it's physical activity. Which, when you think about it, makes perfect sense. Why else would we have to pick our activity level…
  • I'm trying to reduce the gluten in my life for non-medical reasons (and dairy, too, incidently), and I use www.yummly.com! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this site. You can filter recipes based on gluten allergies (as well as a ton of other criteria).
  • I'm totally with you on the carb thing. I crave a loaf of bread every other day. A whole loaf. With butter. Mmmmmm. Buuuuuuuuuter.... Ahem. Anyway, I find that having a healthier snack that kind of reminds me of what I'm craving is the answer. I keep 100 cal packs of chips, popcorn, and popcorn covered in chocolate at my…
  • I sure hope so, or I'm doomed.
  • Where do you people work!? And who are your friends!? I must say I have never EVER felt that my coworkers or friends were sabotaging me. Sure, they bring junk food and crap into the office all the time, and make delicious and sooo unhealthy meals when I come over to eat, but no one is shoving the food forcibly into my…
  • I would not eat more, per say. I believe if you're not hungry you're not hungry. Maybe try eating healthy but calorie dense foods like nuts or avocado for a snack instead of, say, celery, to bump you up.
  • OMG, when I finally got a digital food scale and started weighing everything, I was DISGUSTED with how much peanut butter calories I had been consuming! I LOVE peanut butter, too!!! I bet I scooped a whole tablespoon for every 1/8 peice of apple I ate!!
  • I try to cut back on my refined sugar intake, however if the choice is between that and some sugar substitute, I'll choose refined sugar every time. I see it less as a weightloss thing and more of an addiction-managment thing. If I start eating too much food with added sugar (sweets, baking, chocolate,…
  • I always feel a little uncomfortable when someone asks me, too, but I've made it a point to answer honestly. I feel like I should learn to be pround of the changes I've made and maybe it will encouarge others, but I am still learning to love and accept myself in this journey.
  • I'm in a simliar boat. My bf needs to loose a lot more than 20 lbs, frankly. Probably more like 100. And he constantly says that he really needs to get it off. When we met, I made it clear that I wasn't going to put up with any bad influences in my weightloss journey, and he has been very supportive. He has changed the way…
  • I don't drink a lot of cow milk to begin with, not for any other reason than I try to drink water as much as I can and if I buy milk for cooking it always goes bad. However, I love cream in my coffee, and the only low-cal alternative to cream that I can stomach is unsweetened almond milk.
  • I maintain that "losing weight" and "being healthy" are two different things. You can lose weight eating 1200 cal worth of Twinkies a day, but you won't be healthy. So yes, if you eat junk food and stay under your calorie goal you'll still loose weight, but making smarter food choices more often will make you healthier,…
  • Everything is worth the extra effort if you're willing to put the effort in. I'm the kind of person that buys pre-cut veggies and fruit despite the price difference because if I don't they'll rot in my fridge. I'd never grind my own meat. However, if you have the time/inclination/technology to do so, good on ya.
  • Yes! This is exactly what I wanted to know! Thanks!
  • So, let's say that you work out. The number on the scale does not go down. The inches in your butt DO go down. How, then, would you explain this with your vast logic?
  • Oh, I would also like to add another "stupid" post. I would argue that people DO measure themselves by volume. All the time. The space you take up in the environment around you is volume, is it not? Do people not measure their waistlines in inches? Do people not observe the volume they take up with they look in the mirror?…
  • I have mostly given up wheat/gluten, but it's not so much an allergy or philosophy. It's addiction management, really. I have a huge weak spot for sugar and simple carbs, and if I have them in my house I will eat them. All. At once. So I've made the choice not to buy wheat/gluten products, but if I go to a friends house…
  • Maybe you should take a month off of the scale, continue tracking and excersizing, though, and focus on how you FEEL. Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy? Are your pants feeling less tight? Thinking more clearly? Feeling more happy? I know that for me sometimes the scale doesn't move for weeks and weeks, but I…

  • I created a recipe in my Recipe thingy for "Salad" where I just put 1 cup of all the veggies I usually eat, and I set the "servings" to be 1 cup. I use that when I'm eating a multiple variety of raw veggies whether they are in the recipe or not. It just gives me a guesstimate for calories, which IMO is better than nothing.
  • Oh yeah, and THIS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cullen_Jones "Cullen Andrew Jones (born February 29, 1984) is a U.S. competitive swimmer and Olympic gold medalist who specializes in freestyle sprint events. As part of the American team, he holds the world record in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay (long course). At the 2012…
  • I'm going to assume this was in response to my "stupid reply." Which wasn't "stupid" actually. As I stated, muscle DOES weigh more than fat. Lead DOES weight more than feathers. This is not a debatable hypothesis. It's science. It's logic. It's common sense. I realize that human beings are not measured by volume, but this…
  • Move to Canada!! Your excess-skin removal is covered here if it's a result of healthy weight loss!! Oh Canada!
