I am well under my calories today but I dont feel hungry at all. This is unusual for me! I have seen warnings about eating too little, that it can be as unhelpful as eating too much. Do you think its ok to be under by 400 calories occasionally. Surely if my body needed it I would want more?

if you arent hungry, I dont think you should force yourself to eat.

My philosophy is if you're not hungry, don't eat. If it's not a usual occurance, and if you're anything like me, you will probably make up those calories with an ill-advised piece of chocolate cake later in the week, or something.

Don't force yourself, but maybe try not to let it happen too often. I have the same problem some days, but I have decided to try to spread my calorie intake more evenly throughout the day. I generally don't have much for breakfast or lunch, but I have a nice big dinner. I'm going to try to eat more during the earlier part of the day, so I don't feel I have to "force" myself to eat to meet my calorie goal by the end of the day.
    Hope this helps!

It is fine for a day, but not as a habit.

If you are consistently under, you aren't listening to your body properly and need to feed properly to reset the signals.

It really does help. If I save my calories suddenly I cant face 900 in one go after cutting back for so long, so spreading them out is probably the key. Thanks!

If it's only happening now and again I wouldn't worry too much.

If it happens often, find ways to add calories into your diet. Snack on things like nuts as they pack a lot of calories for a small amount so it won't make you feel like you are stuffing yourself. Or switch out lighter foods with higher calorie versions (mayos, dressings, oils, etc).

Consistantly eating too little is not a good thing. If you undereat for a long period of time your body can lose it's hunger signals.

If you still have another meal or snack left for the day swap out some of your planned items for something that is of higher calorie to help you get closer to your goal.

400 calories is quite a lot to be under by, are you sure you have measured your food intake correctly?
I would definitely add the calories unless you are under due to exercise taking some of those calories a way, it's normal sometimes to have a big burn and struggle to eat all of those calories back.

I am often under my calorie intake because I work out so much and my job alone keeps me moving for the most part. I try to eat breakfast lunch and dinner with snacks between each but when I am not hungry I don't force myself. As long as you are eating well (instead of dining on empty calories) and getting all of your essential vitamins and minerals I wouldn't worry too much about it. I plan meals accordingly so I get all my essentials in those main meals. Snacks are usually just to keep my metabolism up or to sate my hunger.

I did feel very hungry just before my dinner but quickly felt full so I am still getting hunger signals. On a day where I walk the dog for an hour and go to a high impact body combat class I cant even begin to eat all those calories back. Today was just a short dog walk though. I will monitor the situation because thanks to the forums I realise I shouldnt be starving my body, just as I shouldnt be stuffing it!
