  • I've given myself the imediate goal of signing up for a 5K imediatly following the end of the program. March 25th is my big day! I will also sign up for a 5k every month after that, and be sure to run for 45 minutes 3x a week. Also, depending on how 5k feels on a regular basis, I'd like to start training for 1/2 marathon.…
  • I just started week 4 this morning :) - add coming right up!
  • I go to Max Muscle and use some of their protein products. Plus they give great nutritional advice. I'd recomend some Glutamine to help with your muscle recovery as well. If you are working out hard for 60 minutes or more, you definitely want a quick absorbing protein - like whey (around 20grams) AND some qucik absorbing…
  • Are you serious? She probably likes it there and thought it would make a nice gift. You CAN find healthy things to eat there. If you despise it so much give it to someone who would appreciate it.
  • I have a new addiction - soy crumbles. They are just like having ground beef, but soy based! Super low in calories and high in protein. You can use them so many ways (in sauces, tacos!, sloppy joes, etc...) check em out.
  • OMG I love love love Bikram. I am new at it also. I started with a 5 time Groupon and purchased a 30 day intro package. My first class was INSANELY hard. During the final savasana I cried and cried. I was so beat physically and emotionally. But something drew me back. I've been 9 times now and I look forward to each class.…
  • Or how about when people complain about long articles, don't read them and miss on the fact that the "long article" is spam and should be reported?
  • It is a medical FACT that one cannot get the flu from the flu shot. You may have already had it in your system, or have some other virus that resembles the flu. It is irresponsible to not get the flu shot. You may be strong enough to fight it off or recover well, but children, elderly and the immunologically compromised do…
  • muscle weighs more then fat.
  • not crazy at all. I have lost 9% body fat and over 20 cumulative inches since June. But my overall weight is UP 6 pounds. On here I look like i have not accomplished much, but I still keep prodding along and at least I know I've dropped two sizes now.
  • If you hate cycling, then I do not think it would make sence adding in an activity you don't like. Cycling isn't a magic pill which will make everything easier. Activity is activity. If you hate cycling, I would look for something else active to do.
  • programs like P90X or insanity do have you workout every day, but you are changing up what you are doing day to day. You are not working the same muscles every day over and over so active recovery is built into those programs.
  • Correct, it is not good to exercise the same muscle groups day after day without a rest when it comes to strength training. If you want to work out every day, add cardio on the "off" days. Or break out the workout so that you are going arms / chest one day, legs and back the next. Then you can workout everyday without…
  • Agree that 6 miles a week seems like hardly anything. I suppose its better then no exercise, but I would not expect to see any miracles... I've logged over 1000 miles this season between mountain, road and downhill biking.
  • Good luck on your new adventure! I've done kettleball workouts in the past and they are a GREAT all over toning workout. My suggestion would be to get a heart rate monitor to accurately calculate calories burned. Then you can enter the workout manually.
  • I've used it, its awesome. Following it will definitaly make you able to run a 5k as described. But it heled me confirm that I do not enjoy running at all. lol
  • If you are getting up at 5, I assume you are eating breakfast after your workout, around 630 or so? If that is the case then 1130 is 5 hours later! That totally makes sence for your body to be hungry. Earlier breakfast usualy means earlier lunch....
  • I get my body fat tested monthly by my Personal Trainer - he uses those evil torture devices called calipers. For laughs I tried the site you link above. I would not rely on its accuracy at all. Per the website I am "50.56 % using the U.S. Army body fat algorithm, or 47.88 % using the U.S. Marine body fat algorithm, or…
  • You can always use a ball instead of a bench. In fact its GREAT for toning your core. Just start with a lower weight so that you can get used to the fee of the ball and form is VERY IMPORTANT. Watch lots of you tube videos, I am sure they are out there.
  • This summer I pushed though a cold and paid for it in the long run. I ended up with a nasty sinus infection (never realized they could get so bad) and severe coughing fits. I eventually went to the doctor (at the recommendation of my trainer) and the dr made me take off 10 days. It was the longest and hardest 10 days of my…
  • I use a personal trainer for a few reasons. Not only does he create a workout specific to my goals and needs, corrects my form when I need it, pushes me harder then I could do on my own and he keeps me honest. I don't skip workouts or cheat, because it will show in my results. It was an expensive investment, but I am…
  • Im in too! I need a little extra "oomph" as well since I feel like I am plateauing as well.
  • I do a few things, I try to increase my water intake, add in a few glasses of tea as well. You can also add in some more exercise and "earn" some more calories to eat. Adding veggies to each meal is a good filler as well. Try to remain active, don't let that bear hibernate :)
  • thanks :)

  • Agree that if your back is hurting, and you don't have a history of lower back pain, something is wrong with your form. Make sure your head is in a neutral position (ie looking down at the floor) and your abs are tight. If this is still too much, maybe supermans to build yourself up to the planks.
  • walk walk walk walk walk. But make it a brisk fast-paced walk. You want to go fast enough that its difficult to hold a conversation because you are breathing heavy. yoga is great - but you need some cardio. walking will open to door and get your body accustomed to more challenging activities. Remember, if you are not…
  • Do you have a Max Muscle near you? I went to my local store, talked with the owner (who is a kick-butt Ironman triathlete) - he introduced me to some great protein powders and gave me a few shake / smoothie recepies. Key is to make sure you balance protein and carbs with each meal. My "go-to" shake is about 350 calories.…
