Wow, feel like I've missed a lot, reading back! Had shoulder surgery and got signed off for a month, which all went really well and the time off was lovely.... now back at work and struggling to remember how to vet/nightshift. So tired.

I hate those ones enough when it's animal related, can't even imagine dealing with people and death.
-
@jennifer_417 Fantastic news!! @sufferlandrian Wow, what a depressing time you've been having.
-
@BodyByBex Good luck! I'm sure you'll be fab @sufferlandrian Aww that sucks. I'd rather be ill at work than in my free time ;) though my current cold is making just thinking hard at times!
-
Only 7 more hours to go! Made the mistake of getting up too early this morning so could fit my long run in, and really paying for it now!
-
Urgh. Worked really hard trying to save a really poorly cat tonight - suspect some kind of toxin - for her to look worse even though her bloodwork was getting better, and we just ended up putting her to sleep. Kindest thing for her but a demoralising start to the night.
-
@sufferlandrian Very jealous right now.
-
It is so cold here tonight! We keep looking to see if there's a window open somewhere, but think the cold is just seeping in through the walls! Currently wearing scrubs, jacket and 2 dog blankets for warmth!

Unfortunately I have to stay awake in case the phone rings as no one else to answer it :( Hoping to get some lie down time soon though when my nurse comes down.

Happy New Year all! My Christmas was horrendous - so many sick animals. One day I consulted and admitted patients solidly from 8-730 without a break. Felt like I was juggling constantly to stay afloat. Had a few days off but just doesn't feel like enough! Struggling to stay awake tonight, and super hungry which doesn't…

Ever feel like it's the calm before the storm? I've pulled the short straw this year and am working Christmas eve, day, Boxing day and the bank holiday Tuesday as day shifts. Everyone so far has been busy telling horror stories, and based on those, I'm going to be shattered by the end!
-
Ok, that beats anything I've seen recently.
-
Phone rang once earlier. Literally once - no way I could have grabbed it in time. Not heard anything since. Really set me on edge! On the plus side, a happy client brought in 2 cases of wine/prosecco to split between the staff. Free alcohol!

A bit late to the party, but I'm totally with you @BodyByBex. I've never been keen on children, people have always said I'll grow out of it, but now signs of it so far! I've been married for about 2 years now, and am starting to get all the 'so when are you going to have babies' questions. I'm like, since when has my…

Came on shift to four stable inpatients. Had a feeling of impending doom. Did 11pm checks to discover stable post op dog had developed clotting disorder and bleeding massively under the skin, had to source plasma from another clinic and start transfusion overnight. This is night six of seven... Is it too much to ask for…

That's always depressing. Had a blocked cat in tonight. Came in last night, bit vague, owner thought maybe breathing issues? Came back tonight looking horrendous, huge solid bladder. Bloods off the scale. Couldn't get the catheter past the blockage. Decompressed, then his heart rhythm became an issue. Worked my way through…

@@sufferlandrian I know right! I ate so much on my last two shifts- like an eating machine!!
-
@sufferlandrian yeah I was surprised. First insured rabbit I've seen!
-
@sufferlandrian results back - likely thymoma pressing on heart, causing secondary right sided failure. Needs a thoracotomy but not sure if owners will go for it. So far I've seen a cat with a swollen foot. Fingers crossed!
-
@sufferlandrian still waiting for results on the rabbit. Think the day staff have chased it up but something doesn't seem right to me! Have had two amazingly slow nights, predicting tonight to be busy!
-
@sufferlandrian DKA cat. 2nd episode in a month, worked all night... then they put to sleep this morning. Frustrating! Tonight I'm watching a rabbit breathe. Came in with dypsnoea, turned out to have pleural effusion, drained it and found a weird fluid filled mass pressing on the heart. Drained that as well but still the…

That's a lovely view! I've got hourly blood glucose checks, yay! Hoping my new kettle bell turns up tomorrow then I can bring it to work with me
-
God, I'd love a gym at work - that would be epic! Too much effort to bring my weights with me, but I try and do bodyweight exercises when shifts are quiet. And a lot of aimless wandering to keep my step count up! ;) Have a dog in tonight who *might* seizure. So we have to stay up all night to watch her, just in case.…

Last night was manic, had to take a deteriorating dog to surgery at 1am. Tonight not so much. Actually wish more was going on! Probably going to regret saying that later though!
-
That is crazy!! Unfortunately getting bitten is a frequent occurrence in my job, I'm a vet. Tonight I have the joy of taking blood from a very angry cat every single hour. He's apparently angry at the best of times, and I doubt this is helping. Sighs. Only 5 hours to go...

Hello! Just found this thread. New to the world of nights, and totally excited to be here! Anyone awake?
-
I've just started working nights, and this seems to be working for me, at least for now. I have a light meal just before I leave for work then have my main meal at about 10pm-12am depending on how crazy work is. Both high protein. Then I have yoghurt as an evening snack, and bring a banana and pain au chocolat with me for…
-
Nice to meet you all! I've been doing the whole high protein thing - lunch before I leave, dinner really late evening, yoghurt and fruit as breakfast before I get home. It's working out about maintenance calories so I probably should be stricter when I'm not working if I want to lose a few lbs! Some nights where there's…
-
Hello! We've literally just set our wedding date - for March 7th 2015 - which I just googled and is 251 days away exactly! Working on losing the last 10-15lbs, and generally just being healthy, for hopefully a long married life together! Alex xx
-
Upped my calories to maintenance when I was at my target weight, then stopped the large amount of exercise I was doing when I was in my final year of university because I didn't have the time, and drank too much wine as a coping mechanism.
