So on the job front, I don't think I will be able to accept the post office position. With my sunroof exploding and then my mom's car(my would be back up car) having issues, I feel like these are signs that I should not take the position. I don't think it's for me, ya know?

Plus the orientation is on 2 days I absolutely can NOT get off for work.

ETA: Plus I'm having REAL anxiety about it. Not like "Oh new thing! Change is happening and I'm not big on change." kind of anxiety. This is very different. It's a gut feeling. I can't figure it out, I can't logic it out, I can't calm it down.

Hmmm...I'd say it's best to go with your gut. Sometimes you just know, y'know?

When you can't logic it out, make a risk assessment sheet. List the things that are positives in order of importance. Only do five or it gets too complicated. Then list the things that are negatives in order of importance. Rate them 10 - 1. Add them up. If negatives outweigh positives, don't do it. Be honest in your score. If getting out of your current job is just for want and not for need, rank it low. If the cars are really that big of a deal (for me they are) rank them high like a 10. Travel and car issues always ranks a 10 for me. I really can't stand not being able to get to work. Nothing chaps my hide like being on the side of the road in a broken car. The flip side is I've worked some really lousy jobs because it was secure income. It might not be the most glamorous thing to do, but I could have biked to work if my car broke. Just looking at those two things, I would have a car issue 10 and job change as a five so the negatives outweigh the positives 2:1.

On the plus side, my diabetic cat is doing quite well.

I agree, go with your gut feeling.

Phone rang once earlier. Literally once - no way I could have grabbed it in time. Not heard anything since. Really set me on edge!

On the plus side, a happy client brought in 2 cases of wine/prosecco to split between the staff. Free alcohol!

Just saw a butterfly python. It's pretty young and the cat decided it would be tasty. Rescued before it became a meal but still has a pretty nasty wound.

Butterfly python? Wait. What? Is? THAT!? A snake? The cat tried to eat a snake?

    YAY!

I did some free writing and had some out loud discussions with myself(my mom was eavesdropping) and decided to email the HR person in charge of scheduling orientation to ask for a later date. If things workout, cool. If not, well I have applications to turn in for a couple of different things still anyway. *shrug*

Just finished taking a plastic spoon out of a 9 wk old puppy. He chewed it up and the spurs got it stuck when it tried to pass out of the stomach.

Some cases your the windshield. Some cases your the bug. I've got a St. Bernard that I think is going to make me the bug. I can't keep the lungs from filling with fluid. If I can get him to tomorrow, I can turf him back to his regular vet. Here's to hoping for a quick night.

Got a call from the Python owners last night. He is doing very well. My St. Bernard made it through the night and my puppy that ate the plastic spoon is doing really well. All in all, a good night for those that had treatable diseases. Fortunately for the animals, those pets that couldn't be treated had owners that didn't make them suffer. Hard on the staff, but we just keep reminding ourselves that it's better than watching them die a miserable death. Wish we could do that in human medicine.

Not a good night for the pets. Had one arrest on the exam table and another arrest on the scale. Poor owners. Cancer in dogs doesn't give you much warning if any at all. The lab cross was full of cancer in the chest. We got him back the first time but after the x-rays, we didn't try to revive him when he arrested a second time.

I wish people would quit letting their dogs just run loose during hunting season. They aren't getting shot, they are getting in to dead animal parts and then the owners act all surprised with you show them their dog is in deep trouble and needs hospitalization. Well, let's see. If you were vomiting with diarrhea and couldn't stand or hold anything down, what do you think the human ER would do? Fluids and watch for complications overnight? Maybe?

Not even just hunting season. It drives me BATTY that people just let them run all over the neighborhood. Some dogs don't know the danger of cars and I do NOT wanna be the one to teach them the hard way at 7am in the morning!

So last week on Tuesday, my sunroof exploded for no reason on my car...It's now fixed. Awesome.

In other news, I submitted my application for the 911 dispatcher position and the Bastrop County Human Resources Department got back to me via e-mail to say: Hey, you're missing this ONE page, can you fill it out and send it back?

    I did.
So this tells me one of 2 things...or maybe both:
    1. They're desperate, or
    2. They liked what they saw on the resume and (incomplete) application and thought "It's ONE page, that's not a big deal"

Either way, I would REALLY like to score an interview for this position. I feel like I would really enjoy it.
I wouldn't have to drive around a lot and I would be getting retirement options, decent benefits, and more money.
The post office position seems great on paper but, ultimately, it may not be for me. They did move the orientation for myself and two other people. So I'll be taking off early Tuesday the 3rd and actually using some of the MOUNTAIN of PTO I have saved up. Hopefully, no one will make a big deal about it.
