  • Since I have dunkin donuts on my most recent, I'm going for most used ;-) 1. Cream - Half and half 2. General Mills - Fiber One Original Bran Cereal 3. Milk - Nonfat (fat free or skim) 4. Nearby Eggs - Extra Large Egg 5. Banana 6. Generic - Basil Pesto (probably not a good thing, I mix it in with my eggs) 7. Cheese -…
  • The biggest tip I can give is to just have fun. Forget about all the expectations. Don't give a care in the world about what others may think of you - they don't matter. Just enjoy the fact that you are out there. You're getting exercise, having fun outdoors, meeting other people (I always end up chit chatting with others…
  • My weekend runs are early morning. I get up at 5 and head to the woods to get in some trail miles. I eat before I get in the car to drive to the forest, so I have plenty of time for it to digest. Generally, for a shorter run, I don't eat before. And for longer runs, I try to eat 30 minutes prior to running so that it…
  • Agree with others about using time for the intervals, not mileage. Also, I am a hardcore runner and I still have days where it just doesn't click and I am way slower than other days. Think about - how many times have you been watching ANY sport and you hear the commenter say - it's just not his day. Happens all the time.…
  • Yes they definitely make a difference. With the cages, you're really only creating power on the downstroke. If you're clipped in you produce power on the upstroke as well. Not only does it give you a better workout, you will feel different leg muscles getting worked. I actually get a better calorie burn with the clips.
  • I'm not sure which the F4 is, but I've had a couple of polar heart rate monitors that were supposedly waterproof and were not. I've worn them in the shower and they will continue to work if they get wet, but you might get some water under the crystal and that can distort the display and make it very difficult to read. I…
  • DOH! I forgot the most important thing: GUINNESS!
  • Well, I am a carboholic and have no control when it comes to really good bread. When I indulge my craving, I go to the great bakery down the street and get a freshly made loaf of bread. The spinach/feta and cheddar garlic are my favorite. I know these don't sound terrible, but I can literally eat an entire loaf in a day.…
  • Great post. About 20 years ago, running got me from 275 to 155. I will second Berry's wisdom about forgetting things like speed, pace, and all that. Just get out there and run. Sometimes the slowest runs are the most enjoyable. I'll also throw it out there that if you live near the woods, then try a trail run. Easier on…
  • I don't know what this insanity program is (and would I trust a program named insanity?...) but if you just started working out hard, or have started a different routine that works muscles that you haven't abused in a while, you're probably just getting something called DOMS, which stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.…
  • A lower cal and lower fat alternative to cheesecake crusts (and the like) is to make one from figs. I use about 20 dried figs with a cup of graham cracker crumbs and just pulse them together in a food processor. A blender would probably work as well. You might want to add a little brown sugar to cut down on the figgy taste…
