I like using the high fiber burrito wraps as a pizza crust. The small size makes a good pizza for one that's easy to bake in a toaster oven. The larger size probably does better in the oven. It's been a while since I've made these, but I do remember making several small ones at once on a half sheet pan in the oven. (the…

If you have the willpower to resist the leftovers, and can actually limit yourself to reasonable portions at healthy intervals, by all means eat what you enjoy. I do it, and I'm reasonably certain that once the holiday season is over and all these goodies go home with other people, I'll have less trouble staying on track.…

Quantities of milk can have that same effect on me, but usually more than the amount I'd put in coffee.

Don't have a bodybugg or other HRM type device, but I'm intrigued. (My fitness expenditures have been more towards weights and a kettlebell than other things. Maybe Santa can bring me one!)

I got bored with this type workout quite easily. At first I thought I was just tired of the chatter on the first workout I tried, so I got some others. Nope, I'm just bored with them. I've tried another workout that's similar (Shapely Girl: Let's Get Moving) that's maybe a tad less annoying, but I do think I prefer just…

I totally forgot to record tonight's episode! Our power was out for a bit this afternoon, so I checked to see if there was a tape in the machine, just forgot to make sure to SET the machine to record. Sigh. Could someone recap it for me, just the highlights. (i.e., who went home?)

Have you seen some of the seated workouts, or some of the ones for seniors? They're generally pretty adaptable for various health problems, and should at least help you figure out some ways to get moving.

I've been doing Jari Love's Get Ripped lately in an actual every other day routine. I like the fact that you can use whatever weights you have, in whatever sizes, and just work at your own level. It's only been a few days so far, but I can already tell that I'm carrying myself differently, and my appetite seems different…

I'm sorry your wife is having difficulties with things, but I can understand that for some people, the rather intangible idea that you have children out there in the world, somewhere, and the reality that you've made contact with them are entirely different situations. I do hope that you and your wife can work through…

Thanks for posting this, I really ate a LOT today, and was feeling kind of guilty about it. The thing is, I was just SO hungry! Argh. (Maybe it's PMS related, my appetite fluctuates depending on the time of the month.) On the plus side, I got LOTS of fiber, LOL!!

What about just blending more ordinary foods? Adding water to thin it out, I mean. It sounds simple enough, but does it really work?

Somehow I'm enjoying Biggest Loser a bit more since I've managed to lose some weight of my own. :) I do have to wonder though, how those folks managed to lose SO much weight just in the first week. Do you think they loaded up with water weight before they got there, just to boost their numbers?

Oh, sorry. Gin's been around forever, I think she invented Step or something. :) I'm not a big Step fan, though, my knees don't respond well, but I like her workouts, in general. (The 'Build Up Your Muscles' one is nicely versatile, though as I say, she's a definite lunge fan.) She's got a website (her own name,…

I like Gin's straight forward approach, though I'm not really at a fitness level to manage her workouts without modifications. (and she's a major fan of lunges, which I loathe.) In fact, I just got the Salsa Walk / Straight Up Stick dvd, so I'm looking forward to trying that one. Any other Gin fans around?

I was actually kind of glad I could delay recording my caloric excesses. :)

I loved Journeyman too. (and New Amsterdam was cool.) Of the shows that are actually returning, I think I'm most anticipating Bones. The season finale was such a shocker that I've GOT to tune in to see what happens next. I really HATED the things they did, but I love the show. (After all Buffy the Vampire Slayer had…

I'm in deep too. Not as bad as it could be, but definitely in the 'ate away my built in 500 calorie deficit and didn't exercise at all yesterday' category. I'm determined to record it all in my food diary, though, just so I KNOW what I've done. Somehow I've just been completely RAVENOUS lately, all day long and into the…

I have trouble with nutty ice creams. Butter pecan, black walnut, pistachio ... . Love them. I guess I've just trained myself to live without them and this was true before I started a food diary. I love potato chips, pretzels and Cheetos too, but now that I'm keeping track of sodium in my food, they're just not worth it…

I only like cottage cheese with pineapple, but that makes a pretty good snack. Milk's also a great choice, lots of protein, but I'm still trying to come up with a lower fat chocolate version that I like well enough to recommend.

I've heard that a craving for salty things can be a sign that you need more, what, protein? dairy? Something like that. Milk is a good choice for me, drink-wise, so I try to have some every day, and when I do, I crave salty stuff a bit less. Could be my imagination, but at least my sodium intake is down. :)

I'd get a side salad, or a green salad (which I'm assuming is larger) to round out the corners. If it were me, I'd take my own oil and vinegar just to make sure I had the option, since most commercially prepared salad dressings disagree with me. (Last time I was in a restaurant (not a BWW) they claimed they didn't even…

I've become a fan of Mission Carb Balance Whole Wheat tortillas. Tons of fiber, texture and flavor are fine, they're stretchy and adaptable for sandwiches, and they work nicely as a pizza crust (just spray the bottom with a bit of Pam, bake it on a cookie sheet).

Learn to work the cafeteria to your advantage. Find out when they have fresh fruit and milk, and scavenge for later eating, storing the extra in your fridge. Also, be careful of your sodium intake. A lot of my college friends ate tons of ramen noodle soup, but that stuff is LOADED with excess sodium, which is no help in…

Oh, hey, thanks for the Fiber One idea. I'll have to try that. I've also found whole wheat tortillas are a great way to boost your fiber intake. I use them now instead of other breads for sandwiches or pizza crusts. The ones I eat have 21g fiber per burrito sized wrap.

This morning I had a bigger breakfast than usual, so I came and entered my data for the meal into my food diary, just to see how many calories I had left for the day. Didn't do too badly, so I went ahead and entered the data for both lunch and supper, just to see what my total for the day would be. The numbers seemed okay,…

My weight fluctuates all the time, regardless of the time of month. That's why I only weigh at the same time of day when I do get on the scale, it seems to help keep the numbers from fluctuating too wildly. (FWIW, I weigh the most late at night, the least early in the morning.) I just try to avoid weighing more than once a…

I find it helpful to make sure I get enough protein and fat. Now that I'm counting calories, I have to make sure to get enough of the right stuff pretty much every time I eat anything. I try to make sure that both my meals and snacks have a good balance of protein, fiber, fat and carbs, just to keep from splurging on any…

I'm a fan of the Mission Carb Balance tortillas. They come in a burrito size that's pretty large, but useful for sandwiches, and great on the fiber count. I like using them as pizza crust too, just spray the bottom with a bit of PAM, put it on a baking sheet, and top to suit yourself. I find I can get away with just a…

I agree, a little bit of the real deal is the only way for me. :) The only days I've let myself have any bacon, I had BLT's (whole wheat tortilla) for lunch, and I had NO urge to snack those days, and I stayed within my calorie limits for the day without making changes in the rest of my meals. It worked for me, but I do…

Just thought I'd mention that I found Hain's Featherweight Baking Powder at my local health food store today. I'd checked the Hain website for retailers, and the local place wasn't listed, but apparently their records aren't up to date. The Featherweight has no sodium at all. I do a good bit of baking at home so this is a…
