I have had the shake, and it is the best tasting one so far with the best nutritional value. I usually mix it with protein powder to up the protein count as well, which makes it a good balanced meal for me. GNC is expensive, but if you become a Gold Card member (yes, you will have to pay to do that) you will get some good…

IMO: you are better off having no friends than having people like that in your life. If it were me in that situation, I would keep backing off being around them. Then find some kind of group to make new friends. I don't know about where you live, but there are some hiking, running groups around here. There is even an…

I will admit the list covers a few years hiking and camping with our family and boy scout troop and all the animals were here in Florida. The bear was actually in Tennessee, but we DO have bears in Florida, I just have not come across one yet. The alligators are the biggest thing we really have to look out for. Like I…

Darn it forgot the wild boars and alligators! We literally stumbled on a 10 foot alligator hiking, luckily it was late afternoon in the winter.

Lets see. . . my trail check off list: timber rattlers copperheads watermoccasins pygmy rattlers black racers (I had one jump out at me in my garden last night) coral snakes (yes, the poisonous ones) deer rabbits bears armadillos tree frogs in porta potties (btw they love to hide in the toilet paper holders) spiders (when…

My new motto is: Cook as much for yourself as you can. That gives you TOTAL control of what goes into your body. Someone else will not care about you as much as you should for yourself. That would be the first place I would start. Depending on your age and overall health, going to the doctor so you can get an accurate BMR…

What are some of the foods you eat? If you can post a sample meal, say what you had for breakfast or lunch today, that would help greatly. I set my goals at 40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fats. It's been a very realistic intake. The other thing you need to watch is the calorie count itself. Are you going with just what…

vegetables or crakers with hummus or peanut butter is good. You could also have some yogurt with granola. Lots of options for you!

Sounds yummy. Will have to try it.

Would you eat fat after your work-out? What is the point of exercise then? If the fat is in something like and avacado, then OH HECK YEAH!!!!!!

I'm 5'-8" and weigh 140, would love to be back at 130-135, but kinda happy where I am. My main goal is to get into the kind of physical strength and conditioning I need to have to go and do the things I want to.

Here is my two bits worth, for all they are worth. Let me back up by saying that I taught basic food, nutrition and cooking classes at the high school level for several years in a food service program. I am also a cooking merit badge counselor for the local boy scouts. If you look at the food guide pyramid, it says fats…

Awesome!!!!! Kayaking provides such a great calorie burn too. Have fun and good luck with it.

Are you camping or hiking? I use couscous, which is very easy to prepare and has quite a bit of protein. Dried or dehydrated foods are good, fresh is always best. Cliff bars are organic and very tasty for snacks. I also make my own trail mix, cheerios (vanilla yogurt flavored if you can find it) mixed nuts, dried fruits,…

There was another topic and debate on cravings and the belief that you crave certain things because your body needs something. This site was posted on that thread and I'll repost it. Just take it for another way of thinking, not condoning it or trashing it.…

It's summer! Swim some laps and enjoy the warmer water and a break from the heat.

Chocolate milk is good, or just a single square of dark chocolate usually gets me through. I recently found some protein bars at Costco "Oh Yeah" is the brand name. They taste like a "real" candy bar, but are nutrient dense and high in protein so they are much better for you. Those are working wonderfully well for me right…

Just remember that tomorrow is a new day. May it be much better than the past two!

Sometimes I make a mocha protein shake with my extra coffee: 8oz cold coffee 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (depending on serving size) 4oz skim milk or almond milk splash of creamer optional It gives me a wonderful afternoon pick me up.

GNC has a shake that you can drink 2x a day and tastes pretty good. Its called Go Lean, and I love the chocolate and vanilla the best. It makes a pretty decent meal replacement if you add some protein powder to it.

I think your fear of that happening will be the very thing that will prevent it! Good luck and stay true to your heart, it will not lead you wrong.

Go to RealSimple.com and look up their sports bras best picks. I am on the opposite end of your problem, but their recommendations have never led me wrong yet.

Herbal teas are wonderful and can have added health benefits. I have trained myself to drink unsweetened tea, and now can't stand the syrupy taste of most sweetened teas. I would prefer to consume those calories from somewhere else.

I have a recipe for making cheesecake from vanilla flavored yogurt. You can't tell the difference in taste and much healthier for you.

I agree. Waste of time.

I have been on several cruises and here are the general rules I follow: 1. Take the stairs everywhere. 2. Walk a lot 3. On the menu are light or healthy recommended choices, stick to those if they look good. 4. Eat the salad first, dressing on the side and use maybe half the dressing 5. Get 1 dessert and split with your…

I'm making some notes myself. I teach Middle School language arts and right now I feel that I am behind the curve on adult literature. I try to read a lot of the books I recommend to the kids so I really know what I am talking about. Thanks for all the ideas everyone. If you want a book for your kids, let me know!

My first question is always, what are you into? I personally prefer Fantasy/ Midevial type books. My personal favs: Anything by Tolkien (rereading LOTR for maybe the twentieth time in my life) Guy Gavriel Kay Pillars of the Earth Shield of Three Lions Jim Butcher: The Dresden Files (there's like 10 or 11 books in the…
