  • I'm in! Just restarted logging and came to the forums looking for motivation. Sending friend requests :)
  • How awesome that you used her comment for motivation! I think when people say things like that and you really WANT to lose the weight it can be helpful-reinforce your commitment ('cause we all know how easy it is to say that we're alright, we look OK, it's not as bad as the scale says) and motivate you toward your goal. I…
  • My fave dips for carrots is a black bean one--I'll throw black beans, cilantro, red bell pepper, and jalapeno salsa into the food processor. Throw some more cilantro on top of the bowl and voila!
  • Congrats to both of you, your success is awesome! How great is it to have someone doing it with you!
  • Food scale is a must, never really knew how much I was eating until I started using one. I bought mine at Aldi for 10 bucks, to store I slide it back into the box it came in that's on top of the fridge.
  • I can leave the whites, but LOVE dipping red potatoes in them, after I dump a ton of pepper on them.
  • I'm firmly in this camp as well--I think that by having a bit of sugar (peanut M&M's for me), or the occasional fried food (5-6 thick fries, or cheese balls.....yum!), one is much less likely to binge. I don't do cheat days 'cause personally I feel bloated and guilty, but I will have a light beer at get-togethers if I want…
  • I absolutely LOVE the link that you posted! Puts everything in plain English, reiterates the important points enough for it to stick....love it!
  • Was your rapid weight loss (during the 2 weeks) at the beginning of your diet? Many people will lose weight rapidly the first week or two as water weight. I'm actually going to a doctor every month for checkups, and while she was very happy with my first month's loss she warned me that I wouldn't lose that again. Oh, and…
  • Yesterday I did much better than the day before, drank 80oz of water. Here's to 80 or so more today!
  • Wow, where did this bit of nastiness come from? Never once said that losing weight HAS to be a byproduct of drinking 3 glasses of milk if you so chose to (if you want to get technical, I should have said suggest, instead of linking), and if one has lost and maintained weight, how is the route one took to achieve this…

  • My sister is here somewhere too! I was going it alone until my sister told me about this site. Love it, love the tools, community, recipe calculator...I'm hooked! GL on your journey, you'll see your toes before you know it :)
  • When I'm having a bad day I'll hoard calories until the end, and then have some candy. That way I'm still at my cal goal, but I get to eat something that I know isn't good for me. The other week I had a whole bag of peanut M&M's, and was still under goal. There are times that it's really tough, especially if you're out to…
  • You'll get conflicting opinions here, but for me personally I try not to. I do have dinner as my largest meal, but I try to eat at least over half of my cals for the rest of the day. I'm on 1200, and I prefer to have 500 cals for dinner and a second PM snack if I need it. If I eat a heavy or too large meal at the end of…
  • I don't believe you need to lose any more weight, and if you're not happy with your shape I'd suggest toning, as PPs have said. When you're in your healthy range it's all about body image, not what the scale says. If you're still unhappy about a certain area, work on toning that up! You look great :)
  • Definitely been there--DH was laid off for a year, I was down to 25 bucks a week to feed a family of four. Ended up me not eating, but I did learn a few tricks during that time to save money. Post is very long, but I found that if I saved money in other places I'd have more to spend where I needed it. For food I totally…
  • I've never done it, but just checked it out--interestingly enough, it tells me that I should be eating 168 more calories per day than I already am.
  • Never tried any of those, but I did use Phen for a month and kept the weight off for 2 years. Gained it back with my last pregnancy. There are always pros and cons with any diet aide you take, adn there will be people with success and failure stories to go along with it. Research, talk with your doctor, and do what you…
  • That's awesome! I did go through my skinny clothes and weed out the teeney bopper clothes, but other than that I hung on to all of my stuff. Everyone told me I'd never fit into them, and I've proved them wrong once before. My third pregnancy packed on the pounds again, and I KNOW that if I did it once I can do it again.…
  • Agree with PP's--stay away from a lot of the diet stuff. Also, drink a TON of water. I've found that the days I drink water I have a hard time eating my 1200! BUT, I will tell you that the first week I was starving. Seriously. The serving size for cereal was crazy, I couldn't snack at night, and nothing seemed to fill me…

  • Have you tried eating your larger meal during lunch? Another thing that a pp touched on is type of meal--I find that if I eat a heavy meal my loss will stall. I'll still be correct with calories, but for whatever reason it affects my loss. I try and only eat a VERY small portion if I'm eating something high carb/fat, and I…
  • That's what they do on Weight Watchers--save up points for the weekends. I have the opposite problem, I'm generally always under and can't make myself eat the extra calories. I'm not sure what I'd do...I personally wouldn't want to get into the habit of thinking it would be OK to eat more one day 'cause I could always eat…
  • Good for you for putting in your stuff, even though you didn't know about MFP! Really opens your eyes, huh? Congrats on starting your journey, and I wish you luck!
  • I love how you said you lost a person....totally awesome! WTG, very proud of you. Woot!!!
  • I don't watch them. I'll take a look and see every now and then, but 9 times out of 10 when I'm over it's because of milk. How crazy is it that there are studies linking 24oz of skim milk a day to weight loss, but that puts you at 33 grams of sugar? My sugar limit is 24, so I'd be over every day if I did that. There are so…

  • I almost got 7 glasses in, can't believe I didn't finish all! I'm going to drink over for the next few days, and really buckle down. I always drink more when I'm active, and my back was killing me so I just sat around all day :( Better today!
  • I used to always want to snack late at night as well. What I started to do was save part of my dinner, and if I was hungry I'd eat that. After a week or so of that I got tired of eating my leftovers for snack, and now (for the most part) I do without. I've heard milk is a good thing to drink right before bed, I've done…
  • Welcome! I'm partial to EatingWell.com myself, but I've also found many good recipes here on the forums.
  • My FAVE filling snack is: Red Apple brand: Apple Smoked Gruyere Cheese, 1oz 90cal Red Grapes, chilled and halved 1/2C 40-60cal, each grape has about 3.5cal Special K Crackers, 17 90 cal The cheese comes in a square, I half the square, half each half, and then half again. I end up with a narrow strip of cheese. I then slice…
  • Awesome! I had a boatload of calories to catch up on the other day, and I baked some cheese balls. I enjoyed the cheese that spilled out of them more than the breaded hunk (who knew that eating less fried foods would actually help me ;) ) so this would be great! Now I need to go out and buy some, can't stand the taste of…
