  • Topamax is one of the big guns for migraines. Produced as an anti seizure drug, they found some of the side effects included less migraine pain, some help with bipolar symptoms and appetite suppression. I took it for migraines too. When I'm done nursing my son I'll probably take it again.
  • Someone posted a 10% rule here the other day. I like it. Try to be within ten percent of your net calories everyday. That does include eating most of your exercise calories.
  • For what it's worth... http://www.rice.edu/~jenky/sports/salt.html
  • I usually try to increase my water intake by about a liter for every hour of exercise. Somewhere when I was researching water intake and sodium I read that you CAN sweat about a liter an hour. I'll look for the study.

  • Recent studies are indicating that endurance athletes need fat too. That's why I eat the pizza the day before with the extra cheese and don't worry about the calories. http://www.active.com/running/Articles/Dietary-Fat-and-Endurance-Athletes.htm http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/foodnut/09362.html From that article "Fat…
  • Kharmsen- go to your food diary, click "add food" and search for breastfeeding. I added it in there as a negative value food to help with this issue. It's in 100 calorie "servings," so decide how many calories you want to add to your diet, divide by 100, then add that as your serving. For example, if you want to add 300…
  • I'm terrible. The day before a race I always eat pizza. Extra cheese, black olives, no sauce. The pre race meal is about 1-2 hours before the race (or the long distance run). I have coffee, pb and j on wheat, and sometimes a banana. Then, just before the race, I have a red bull. My stomach CANNOT handle dyes when I'm doing…
  • I have a itty bitty black dress from high school. I want to wear it in five weeks (my 30th bday). I'm hanging it where I can see it frequently this weekend.
  • Sorry-I gotta post this... Ever eat corn? Think of it as "tracer fire" 24 hours. Tops. Usually less. Sorry if this is too gross!
  • msrichmond-Please read this post-I type these with a thoughtful mind-not snarky or criticizing. What is your education in? Do you have a medical background? It seems that by your logic nutritionists, doctors, and anybody with a solid medical background cannot be trusted. Frankly I'm offended. Don't trust your doctors…

  • I'm just not sure how to respond to that.... But thanks for sharing the recipe link-I'm definitely going to make my own cheese...
  • I ran a marathon last year using pacemusic from podrunner. Google it-I think it's podrunner.com, but I ran the marathon in 4:13. It comes out to be a 9:39 on the splits. I swear I never would have been able to do it without that music. It also has interval training there somewhere I think, so check it out.
  • You can go in a manually shift your calorie percentages. If you do this, you can decrease the calories you get from fat, and increase your proteins and/or carbs. Then shoot for that goal. But keep in mind that mfp has a pretty low fat recommendation to begin with. You'll be okay eating that level. Avacados and nuts are…
  • Well, hubby lost 70 pounds. But he's having trouble maintaining. This diet isn't good for the body or the soul.
  • I ran a marathon with that chest strap. I had to put bandaids over two areas (ON THE STRAP) in order to keep from getting raw spots after about 10-15 miles. But when you're moving those distances, everything chafes. I don't notice mine anymore for the shorter distances or for anything that doesn't involve running.
  • It varies for me. I'm breastfeeding, so I set myself up for half a pound a week. Then I give myself calories for the extra milk that I pump off. So around. 2200-2300.I also eat the majority if not all of my exercise calories. And I'm losing like mad.
  • Take yourself out of a deficit on here-and just eat what MFP tells you if you want to maintain your weight. Breastfeeding will burn enough calories to put you back in a deficit, and you'll be eating enough to avoid hurting your milk supply. Check out my food diary to see what I've done-and it's been successful. I'm pumping…
  • Get on the polar website and look for one that measures your VO2 max and/or resting heart rate. It will be most accurate.
  • Okay-some basic biology here. Your body's cells exchange oxygen and fuel for carbon dioxide and waste. Your heart rate is a product of the energy needed to drive blood around your body to facilitate that exchange. The amount of energy required for the exchange does not change, only the rate at which that exchange occurs…
  • When I feel this need, I go to McDonald's and get a kids happy meal. I know it has so many things that are bad with it, but I've learned to trust my cravings.
  • Bump for posting later
  • Depends on the location of the clot that causes the heart attack, or the cause. A heart attack can not be associated with any specific reading on a hrm Warning signs that you might see an a HRM would include a rate in the 180's while you are resting, or below 60 while doing intensive exercise. Heart rates can vary from 0…
  • I've found that vodka and grapefruit juice is the only thing that doesn't bloat me. I make it strong, then sip it throughout the night.
  • Lean is right!!! But I think we're talking about two different things. If the only thing important to you is the number on a scale, don't run. If a decrease in body fat is important, regardless of the number on that scale, then run. I'm referring to weight loss, I think you guys are talking about fat loss. I can't imagine…
  • I weigh myself everyday. But I've learned to be able to expect which days I'll be down, and which days I'll be up. And I log on the days that I know my sodium intake or my leg workout the day before won't skew my results.
  • Running is not good for weight loss for a few reasons. Most runners get motivated to increase their distance. When this happens, you build muscle. The same volumes of fat vs muscle and the muscle will weigh more. Running bumps your heart rate to the point where you train your body to deal with high levels of lactic acid.…
  • I spent two hours with a shoe specialist here. Had all sorts of knee/hip/ankle problems, but I wanted to eat more!!! The difference was night and day-once I was wearing the right shoes, the knee problems went away. As for the shins hurting, I wouldn't give it much longer before being evaluated by a physician. Pain is an…
  • I'm right there with you.
  • Answer 1: High sodium is relative. A good way of determining what you should have every day is to match your total calories. If you worked out hard for two hours, and now you have to eat 3000 calories to have 1500 net calories (1500 burned in exercise), then shoot for 3000 mg of sodium. 500mg either way isn't going to hurt…
