Just some thoughts and a success...
I started on here to lose some weight. I needed to lose only 7 pounds to reach prepregnancy weight, but my sights were set higher-20 pounds. As I learned more about nutrition, thanks to this website, I also learned about fitness, thanks to a few people in particular, banks, tamtastic, shorerider, and songbyrd. To date I've…

Exercising and Dieting and not losing weight?
I've seen this question pop up several times lately........... Okay-so you’ve started watching your caloric intake, and you’ve gotten the motivation to start exercising! CONGRATS!!! But you haven’t lost any weight? Here’s why: When you start exercising, your body starts retaining water. All of a sudden, muscles that have…

Feel good moment
I'm a mother of two. Today I walked into a store by myself, while my mother in law watched the kids in the car. I passed a guy going through the first set of doors (he was exiting) and could see his reflection in the second set of doors. He turned and stared at me!!!:blushing: Talk about your feel good moment!!!

Thought I'd share
I wanted to mention something that I noticed about my food choices. What I've found is that through the use of this website, I make healthier choices regarding what I eat and plan to eat automatically. By making those healthier choices, I've been able to shift from splenda to sugar in the raw, and from margarine to butter…

Mommy confessions
I've nursed a child while playing wii (no criticism please-it was the only way to get my exercise!) I've forgotten to buckle a carseat once or twice and only found out when I took the child out. I've threatened to leave a cranky toddler in the house while I went to the store. I've let a child out of the house dressed in…

Breastfeeding question - Probably TMI for many
Okay-so I don't actually have a question about breastfeeding. I'm pretty well educated on the whole subject. I know how many calories extra it takes to make milk. That's not what I'm looking for. But I know there are a few other new mommas out there, and I want to know if you figure these calories into your daily…

SHORERIDER???
Hey girl-what foods do you use to fill up the calorie void after you ride? I ran 13 mi yesterday and I was still coming up with a 1000 calorie deficit. I was just getting tired of eating. And since I know you watch your carbs, I thought you might have some good advice.

Feeling pretty bad, need to vent (OT)
I got sick four days ago. Finally last night I gave in and called the doctor, who agreed to give me a prescription for the urping. But it hasn't stopped me from losing just about everything I eat. I've been to the bathroom so many times that my poor little bum is hurting. I don't even think about logging anything I've…

MFP Runner's Club 10/14
I can't believe it's 7 am here and no one has started this thread yet. Wake up people! I think I going to rest today. I did eight miles on the treadmill yesterday. I just couldn't subject the baby to too long in a stroller. So the treadmill it was. Tomorrow I think I'm going to do 10 miles. How is everyone else doing…

Runner's Club - 10/12
Okay. So I'm racing in the morning, and I'm sad to say I'm already up. Somebody's hot tub was on fire this morning. :noway: Anyway, I figured I'd start the thread. Race for me today. If I get out of work early, I'm going to make the drive for the 5 miler. If I don't get out of work in time, then I'm doing the 10k, which is…

Sodium
The question was raised through other threads that there is a lot of confusion regarding sodium. After doing some extensive research today, I've found that 2400 mg/day may not be enough for the sweaty athletes in here. What I found: 1 GRAM per day more sodium for every hour of exercise that you sweat (not just a drop on…

SUCCESS
I had my fitness assessment today. Ignoring the scale completely, I've reached a healthy weight. My fat% is between average and lean, and I was told not to lose anymore weight because I could actually have problems having a baby... Bottom line is, goal achieved. I'm in the middle of updating my food diary settings.......

Macaroni and Cheese
Has anyone noticed that the "prepared" nutritional data on the box is kinda high. I wondered where all the calories were coming from, so I added up the "unprepared" data, the information for the milk and the information for the margarine, and discovered that there are almost 100 calories fewer per serving than the box…

Introspection for the day.
Here it is seven years later. How many people don't realize the significance of the day. I woke up this morning and was surprised by the news. I had forgotten the date. The older children of the people who died on 9/11 are now looking at young adulthood. One of the police officers on TV this morning was the child of one…

how many calories...
Was the bug I inhaled on my run? Talk about ruining a run, especially one where you are trying to get a good time? And you know you're OCD about logging your foods when the thought of entering a bug entry in the food database... Just kidding. But it really ruined my run. Trying not to actually throw up. Anyone else?

Cholesterol
I learned something else interesting today from biology. Cholesterol is considered a steroid. Cholesterol is not all bad: It helps to make bile (which digests fats) It forms Vitamin D when exposed to UV light, It forms sex hormones...

Fats
I've just learned in my biology class that the body's cell membranes NEED unsaturated fats. Our bodies need the molecular bonds that are in unsaturated fats, and our bodies can't make them. We can only make saturated fats. Just an interesting note from the lecture. The peanut butter that separates is better for us because…
