  • I am going through a brutal reorg at work and it's been going on since May. I have found focusing on exercise (specifically for me, running) helps me feel in control of my life when everything else is up in the air. True emotional stress makes me not want to eat, so that's been pretty good for my weight loss, though I'd…
  • With that situation I would do 2 long (hour or longer) workouts on Saturdays and Sundays and figure out one weekday workout, like an evening class or a lunch time workout.
  • It sounds like caffeine. I felt like I was in a fog for my first week of keto--kind of like I took cold medicine. But what you're describing could be dehydration and caffeine. FWIW, I have never had bullet proof coffee and successfully lost and maintained my weight loss on keto.
  • The heaviest I've ever been has been during training for a half marathon. It's a crazy kind of hunger. I don't know that "diets always fail" FWIW. I have never exceeded 10 lbs of my goal weight--my lifestyle seems to be applying different strategies to staying within a weight range. The actual diets "fail" if you define…
  • I don't add fat to my coffee. I really just try to avoid going over my carb macros and focus on protein and eat fat to make it all yummier!
  • I do keto on my own, and my husband & 3 kids eat a more typical, but mostly healthy diet. Largely this has to do with our schedules. I have always been an early riser and exerciser (like 5-6 am) and my husband and kids hate waking up in the morning and if they have anything in the morning, it's a little fruit or yogurt and…
  • So this isn't the keto diet...I don't know what this is!
  • I do not have an anxiety disorder per se, but I am going through a very stressful situation that causes anxiety, and it indeed is tempting to stress-eat. I try to focus on healthy behaviors as a way to have something else to focus on aside from the source of stress, like planning out my workout schedule for the month and…
  • My heart rate's a lot lower when it's non-exercise activity so not sure! It can be between 140-180 when running and otherwise the highest it is while say walking is 100. Weird!
  • I eat salads and drink water and exercise a lot. People probably think to themselves, "Wow, she's really working hard to be thin!" Totally fine with me. I finally got to a place where I can own who I am.
  • I am 5'4 and around 135, which is my goal weight. To lose weight, I can't eat more than say 1300-1400 a day WITH lots of exercise. (Like an hour of running or spin 5-6 days a week.) If I eat the calories that MFP says I burn, I maintain or gain, so even in maintenance, I'm around 1400-1500 a day average. My theory is that…
  • I have found my cravings aren't actually physical or nutritional, but stress related. I can usually find a substitute that's within my macros if I am just bitten by the chocolate monster. But I try to think through what's really going on when I find myself preoccupied with wanting something in particular. Sometimes I need…
  • OK, so they are "lazy" because they didn't Google first? And that means it's OK to be...grumpy to them? Alternative theory: a human being who you don't know just a scale wake up call and is flustered, upset and is reaching out for some kind of human connection. On a website called My Fitness PAL.
  • I don't think that's necessarily my job to discredit random people I don't know.
  • If I thought I could answer in a way that would be helpful and would actually be well-received, I'd answer. If not, I'd scroll. If I have to think too hard to answer "nicely," scrolling works.
  • I think it's important to consider how effective a cold bucket of reality is really going to be when the dynamic isn't you and your BFF, but a bunch of strangers, many of whom might be feeling sensitive or vulnerable. I'm sure everyone IS intending to be helpful and honest, but what I typically see is: OP: I want to do…
  • It could be anything, but I do think drinking more water will keep you more satisfied and flush things out. Drinking it for me is more of a behavioral thing--I'm "in the zone," drinking my water, just doing all the things I need to do to stay on point.
  • For me, it happens to be a weight that's in the middle of my healthy BMI range, means I can wear everything I like in my wardrobe, and is maintainable without requiring an insanely low calorie intake.
  • A tiny bit of hunger is a sign that you're eating less than you used to--it's a good thing!
  • The $20 one I got from Costco is the Weight Watchers brand. It works fine. I just get a read out to the .0 digit and it's accurate enough for me to see a trend.
  • Hi! I am a runner (for about 10 years--I do about 2 half marathons a year and run 4-5 x a week) and also am keto. Feel free to add me! I did have a huge drop off in stamina when I started keto but now am faster than ever...though have not done more than 5 miles in recent months as I live in S. Florida where the heat is…
  • I follow keto, which is very low carb. That's typically less than 20 net carbs a day, with most carbs coming from vegetables and nuts like almonds. You can still lose weight with your carb intake, though. Agree on choosing quality whole grains.
  • Sounds like a good week! And those haas avocados are tastier, anyway! Nice work!
  • I’m currently on my third vacation since starting keto and think you have the right approach to focus on avoiding carbs and not worrying as much as the calories, since it’s really hard to estimate calories anyway when you eat out. I also travel with my own breakfast (keto friendly muffins that can sit out for a few days)…
  • Are you following a very low carb diet? I had some very heavy, weird and then skipped periods my first few months on keto and believe that’s a pretty common side effect. But also think checking with the doctor is always a good idea when you have a sudden change.
  • I think as long as you are staying within your calorie range and are consistently losing, it's all good. Personally, protein fills me up better than fat so I go heavier on that and usually am way below my fat macro, but whatever works. Congrats on how much you've already lost!
  • I use exercise calories to allow me to eat a bit more every day. To lose weight without exercise, because I'm small to begin with, I'd be in the 1200 calories a day club, but I aim for about 1350-1400 instead every day. And I workout 5-6 days a week, burning 350-650 calories each session by running, Orange Theory and other…
  • I'm trying to imagine what they are saying! Is it the "mind body connection," comments that stress or lack of sleep is what's keeping your weight on? That always seemed like a bunch of hooey to me. But I do agree that after you lose the initial weight in the first 6 weeks or so, your mind has to kick in and you need to…
  • I need my 3 meals & snacks, so it doesn't appeal to me, but I know many people who are of a healthy weight and skip breakfast or just have breakfast and dinner. I think it's just personal preference.
