YESSS! It's so hard to manage the "runger" that comes with those increased miles. What I do: I eat a normal breakfast that has carbs and protein, use those gel energy paks maybe every 5-6 miles, and then after I run, I have something immediately afterwards that has protein and carbs. Even if I am not hungry. Because…

Is your anxiety that you will be hungry? What exactly is driving these feelings?

The only reason I focus at all on macros is satiety and to avoid cravings. With my carbs over 40%, I am hungrier and "cravier." I did keto for about a year and loved how that plan took satiety off the table for me as an issue that would lead me to over-eat. I decided to go to a more moderate-carb plan, but still have to go…

Yes, absolutely. People don't like that I care about calories. I am perceived as someone who "worries" a lot about her food intake and weight. I had to wrap my head around the idea that no one will think of me as a person who is "naturally thin" aka "lucky," but as "a person who works possibly too hard to be thin," but I…

It's negative, rude and annoying, yes, but it's only "sabotage" if you allow it to change your behavior. I would try to spend less time with them and more time with people who support your values and goals. Do you have friends who are also trying to either lose or manage their weight? Do you belong to a gym or other group…

How incredibly determined and bad-*kitten* I can be.

I think there's something cultural at play here. I am one of those people who has never been overweight, exercises 5-6 times a week, and calorie count to maintain/counter gains. Aside from pregnancies, my weight has been within a 12-lb. range my entire adult life. I agree 100% that what you eat determines what you weigh. I…

They are both strategies to lose weight. I think they are both perfectly fine if you like the foods and feel good. Diets aren’t a religion.... there’s not one right one to believe in.

I can't know for sure whether this was cause or coincidence, but I've bumped out of weight loss plateaus like what you're describing when I've gone on vacation, during which I have eaten different foods (possibly more), walked a lot more and had more leisure time to go to the gym, and relaxed. A few times, a vacation has…

I did keto for about a year, and recently added back in a moderate amount of healthy carbs (like oatmeal and sweet potatoes, quinoa, fruit.) I only had about 10 lbs to lose, and lost them in 2 months, then maintained the weight loss. Right after the holidays/a vacation in January, I cheated a bit, gained a few lbs. back,…

That would only burn about 200-250 calories for me....I can’t imagine that short of a run would be inspiring that much hunger. I get the “runger” when running 8 or more miles, and definitely have to plan out what I eat and how much water I drink to avoid overeating a few hours later. It is a real thing, but it’s from a…

When you just have a handful of pounds to lose, you need to examine what you’re eating with a microscope. I’m about your size and have had three kids....What I eat to maintain would result in an amazing weight loss for someone just a bit heavier. I am very active and that’s 100 percent for my sanity!

I don't have BED but have a few techniques for dealing with the urge to eat when I'm not actually hungry: I drink copious amounts of water and tea, or I chew gum (a lot of it.) The gum chewing probably isn't good for me, either (sucralose volume) but sometimes I just really want to chew something, and this way, I'm not…

I have been on it for a year. It was great for weight loss and it's been good for keeping it off, too. Feel free to add me. There is also both a keto board and a low carb high fat board that might be a better place...this is more of a "general" type board, FWIW.

I'm a runner! Feel free to add me.

I'm 5'4, 44 years old, exercise vigorously 5-6 days a week, and maintain around 1600-1800 and have to get under 1400 to lose. I'm at my goal weight and just occasionally need to spend a few weeks in the 1300s if I've come back from a vacation or other blip, and I will say I was able to eat a lot more when my weight was…

Thanks! The first one is quite entertaining. :-)

Just a few, but as of yesterday they were gone. You just have to keep on doing what you know works, and it will come off!

Quest, but I try not to eat bars every day. I often eat turkey jerky and almonds as a nonperishable snack.

Just had my levels rechecked. My LDL is still high, but it's dropped. I've been on Keto now for almost a full year.

I am about 5 lbs heavier than you and have a similar calorie intake and exercise with similar frequency. When in weight loss mode, I try to stay under 1400 calories, track and measure everything etc. Every single calorie counts at this weight range and the less you weigh, the less you can EAT to maintain your weight when…

I'm at a similar breakdown. I did keto faithfully for 9 months, then began racing season and needed to carb up somewhat for long runs. (I know I could have tried carb cycling, but I preferred to just modify my macros a bit.) I finished my half marathon (done with long runs for now) and have found that I'm not quite as…

I tend to go for saltier foods, like chicken broth and eggs.

I am not a gym newbie at ALL but a man who thought I was walked over to me and gave me some unsolicited advice: "You don't need to lift such heavy weights. It's not like you're a professional bodybuilder." It left an impression on me!! He said it like he was trying to be helpful but I found it very condescending...and I am…

Honestly, I'd wait to cheat until you've been at this a lot longer. And by "cheat" I mean eat non-keto foods. If you want to go over your desired calorie limit with high fat foods, I think that's fine. This isn't about weight loss in the short term--it's about getting used to the program.

Thanks, I am feeling totally back to normal today! Maybe it was a cold of some sort?
-
Thanks! I did bump up my net carbs from under 20 to around 40 once I hit 60+ minutes of running. That didn't change much for me...and most of those carbs were from gels consumed during the run and protein bars for recovery, not your typical bread/pasta etc. Like I never did a real carb load.
-
I run a lot of races and see runners of all sizes. And running IS amazing and freeing...I say go for it as much as you can without risking your health. You don’t have to be thin to run!

Agree with never eating anything I don’t like. I also track calories, never skip more than 1 day of exercise, stop eating after 8 pm as much as possible, and to choose the most satiating foods I can.
