  • This sounds really alarming!!! I hope it's something related to a "whoosh" but if it doesn't go away, maybe you should at least call a dermatologist? I have never seen anything like that. I get a heat rash sometimes from exercising outside in the summer, but those are blisters very much on the surface layer of the skin and…
  • What has worked for me: -Being totally honest with myself. I think in the past, I would follow some sort of plan and "be on a diet," but then I'd nibble the kids' leftovers or have a bite of a cookie or grab a latte and then be outraged when the scale didn't move. I also felt pretty mad when I would see that other people…
  • Ugh, this is such a challenge for me. I am a total beast at the gym but I do NOT fidget. I am amazingly good at being very still. My husband can't sit still and is "naturally thin" and so are most of his family members (fidgety and thin!) which means holiday dinners are much better buffet style with this crowd! ;-) I try…
  • I avoid going over carbs, make sure I hit my protein, but fat isn't something I aspire to hit. It's more about just keeping me full and using it to feel perfectly fine eating at a calorie deficit. A lot of people who do keto follow this approach.
  • This definitely is true for me--on it almost being 6 months and on the improvements to my performance now. I run 3 miles a few times a week, and pre-keto I ran about a 9:15/9:30 minute mile. My first few months on keto, I ran around a 10:15 minute mile at best, and it felt like I was running at race pace, not my usual…
  • OMG, this is so wrong. I'm a runner. My friends are all runners and triathletes. Never ever heard of this. You don't see a lot of cigarette butts at the track.
  • The good news is that adding exercise is a great way to fight stress, so maybe you can add exercise and reduce or quit smoking at the same time? Should also help with your endurance! Good luck and good for you for making a decision to make a healthier life for yourself.
  • Hi there! I am also on a keto diet, using MFP to track both calories and macros. Honestly, if weight loss and health are the top priorities I would rank your list as follows, with the following additions I don't see on there: 1. Figure out how many calories you need to eat to lose weight, and stay within that range…
  • Yes, it does! But it took a really long time for me. Some people say the keto flu lasts a few weeks, and that might be true, but the running/endurance thing took months for me. Then all of the sudden, I became BETTER. I got faster, my VO2 got better, my endurance is better. I am so excited to start race season now, so just…
  • Call Garmin's phone customer service. They are AMAZING. They've helped me with pretty much every Garmin glitch I've encountered over the years (and I've had many.)
  • Thanks, so maybe having a bite of someone's pasta or dessert will be fine for me--I still would not want a big bowl of carbs or a whole dessert, I just want to be able to try bites of things that are really unique and yummy without paying for it later! Looking forward to vacation!
  • I've never had it and have been doing keto since February. I don't like to drink my calories in general.
  • Nope, you don't. It's the opposite. The amount of "noatmeal" I can eat for the calories in real oatmeal fits into a shot glass. But that's sort of the point. People who do well on keto are people who needed to learn how to put the fork down. I say this from personal experience. I needed to learn what it meant to stop…
  • MFP is great for keto, and agree with @nvmomketo on changing the settings in your diary and also about the groups to join. Good luck. I know some people do keto without tracking calories, but it definitely wouldn't work for me.
  • I work from home and understand this completely! What helped for me was only allowing myself specific meal times and pre-tracking what I was going to eat. And also just WANTING SUCCESS. I think that when I was bored/eating, I am not sure I was fully in the game.
  • Calories really matter...maybe you are eating too many of them in general, even if you aren't over your carb macro.
  • Love running. You just can't run after the ice cream truck! You need to be skeptical about the calorie burn your device gives you. But unless you run and then eat a scone, it's a damned good workout.
  • I run or workout on an empty stomach about half the time and the other half, it's after coffee and breakfast. Everything is fine either way, but coffee gives me a little extra oomph. For runs longer than 6 miles, I do prefer some food first.
  • Big fan of keto but can't imagine losing if I didn't also track calories. Many of us just lack that "stop eating!" device. Another vote for staying on keto, upping your veggies and staying under/within your calorie limits.
  • Congrats!!!! That's amazing. Feel free to add me, too! :-)
  • So as someone whose goal was 10 lbs, I can assure you 6 lbs is a really big deal when you're not carrying much extra weight. That being said, I would also say those are "vanity pounds." Meaning, your health likely won't change whether you lose them or not. It might be the difference between a size S and XS. But you also…
  • Wow, talk about an amazing start! Welcome! :-)
  • So you guys are worried that because some person says "Keto is the best," another newbie is going to think they should try it, and then they will fail at the diet, and then blame themselves? And this "no it's not the best" is an effort to prevent them from being gullible and therefore is protecting new dieters from failure…
  • I didn't really have "phases"--I had a pretty rough first few weeks, then felt amazing, hit my goal, figured out maintenance, and that's where I am now. The "rough" part was the worst for the first five days but I'd say it took a full month before my energy increased to above pre-keto levels.
  • I'm OK with them trying a plan, whether it's Keto or another plan. It's not my place to "be OK" with another adult's diet plan, anyway. Also, I am not sure where "trying keto" has to equal failing miserably and beating themselves up. Cutting out foods that they might find satiating applies to ANYTHING involving eating…
  • Wouldn't it be nice if we could just be supportive of each other's attempts to follow any sort of strategy that results in success that isn't actually dangerous? We all have to deal with food pushers, judgy siblings demanding an explanation for why the salad dressing is on the side, the temptation to just hit that snooze…
  • I drink a LOT of coffee. :-) Agree, it helps with appetite. I think it's magical.
  • You have to attend. You don't have to eat. You don't have to over-eat. Chew gum, sip a cup of coffee. You have to actually WANT this and do the work. It's all in your control, not the buffet's.
  • You have to figure out what's going on in your head. And maybe not go to buffets/eat first at home.
