If you can run 10 miles, you can run 13. It's all mental :)

Well, I am trying to build muscle as well. I was more focused on cardio than weights, and that got boring, so now I want to focus more on getting stronger...but I don't want to gain any more fat. I know I sort of want to have my cake and eat it too...but being a novice lifter, I know I can sort of get away with it for a…

These all sound better than mine!

Ditto on building up first. I've been a runner since 2007 and I can still barely run less than a 10 minute mile. My best 5k time is about 29:30. Also ditto on not worrying about placing. It's all for fun anyway! 6.5 minute mile is doable, but is very fast. Depending on when your event is, it's probably not reasonable to…

Sounds like he needs to do some research!

This! Also check out the post on lean people trying to get leaner, or the twice a week full body workout by Steve Troutman. He knows what he's talking about. Good luck!

Don't be afraid to jump in...you can ALWAYS modify the exercises if you need to. P90X is a great workout!
-
This is much more exciting than my list :) It includes: plain yogurt bananas apples chicken tenderloins some sort of fresh veggie plus other things i haven't thought of yet.

I gotta get a plug in for Garmin. I have the Forerunner 305 and like it quite a bit. Sometimes the interface gets a little clunky...and I've never tried a polar, so I don't know what that's like.
-
I always try to think of it as I WANT to do this...instead of I NEED or I SHOULD...those kinds of things just make me feel guilty.
-
You do have it under control! Everyone slips up once in a while. It's ok to not be perfect. Just don't give up - that's all.
-
You won't. Just keep going! I know how you feel...I had a week where I worked out lots and drank lots of water...lost .4 lbs. You can do this! Keep your eye on the long run, and try to ignore the scale (it is an evil liar). Even if you are not losing weight as fast as you want, you are improving your overall fitness and…

yeah but do you have gold in your mouth, cap turned sideways?? congrats!

Yes!

We are making pork and I will have some veggies but I'm not sure how to prepare the pork in a yummy and nutritious way...

For me it started out as a distraction from how depressed I was. I started running, and when I lost some weight it was like, "Wow! Cool!" Unfortunately I haven't kept it up as diligently as I should, only running occasionally, etc...so over Christmas when I ran on the treadmill and I could FEEL my belly bouncing up and…

MY NSG is to be fit and strong. I had a scale goal of 125 for a while (I'm 5'3.5") and I was going to start seriously strength training after that, but I got bored. So, I'm still operating at a bit of a deficit but focusing more on strength. :)
-
Really? I have never heard that. Of course...I have never tried it either. Shows what I know :D Also agree with HIIT - although in your pictures you look pretty thin!
-
Nope just the foods you eat. I'm not sure what kind of regimen you're following or what your weight is, but maybe you are actually not eating enough calories. Your body could be hoarding the calories it does receive. I'm no expert, so I dunno...just a thought. Have you tried throwing any strength training into the mix?
-
I'm not sure I would say your calorie burns are "ridiculously low." They seem pretty on par with mine. If you really want to up it though, run faster! Or try running with a couple light dumbbells. You could also try some different exercises...i've started running up and down the stairs at work. That's a great workout! Good…

I'm 5'3.5" - as someone else mentioned, that extra half inch is sooo important! ;) My current weight is just a hair under 140...goal weight is probably somewhere in the range of 145-150....I wanna be muscular! Not some skinny minnie who looks like a strong gust of wind could blow her over :)

I like eggs, and peanut butter. I also eat plain yogurt with bananas or blueberries as a snack..that's got some good protein in it. I've also made "power balls" which can be found on bodyrock.tv. Instead of almond meal and coconut oil I used peanut butter...they're a great quick snack!
-
Yep and my husband has no interest in "that stuff". He doesn't understand why i lift or support me in my efforts. In fact when i told him i eas doing an 800 rep bodyrock workout, he said "good luck with that."

You cant spot reduce. Such a concept does not exist...it is a myth. Just keep doing what you aredoing....you've had great progress so far! You can also start doing weights which will help you build muscle...it wont make tou lighter but it willmake you look more fit :)
-
Protein, like the other macro nutrients, is essential in any diet and is required for building muscle. It seems that mfp's goals for protein are somewhat low...i have heard people say they aim for 1-1.5 grams per pound of body weight. I a, trying to get over 100 for sure. Unless you are waaaay over like 250+, i would not…
-
Okay...well, I will start with this...and may be back to ask more questions once I get bored!
-
Agree. 18% is fine but there isn't necessarily anything wrong with wanting to be more fit. OP, I suggest you check out some of Steve Troutman's posts. He knows what he's talking about and has been super helpful for me already. Especially his post about lean people wanting to get leaner. Good luck!

Okay, thanks! I can try spreading it out a little more but I don't have very much weight equipment at home...it's a pain to use that vs. what I can find at the gym. What I meant by 3x a week is if I were to do a full body workout MWF...I see elsewhere you've recommended an ABA BAB kind of schedule though :) Teaches me for…
-
I'm about to try this today...do you think that one day of recovery is enough from a full body workout? I only have access to a gym (right now) on Mondays and Wednesdays...alternately...how would I spread a workout like this over 3 days? I want to get maximum benefit without hurting myself :D

Might be nothing. Might be that TOM. Maybe you are dehydrated. Lots of possibilities here. The important thing to remember is: don't stop! You are doing your body good by eating right (and exercising). Over the long run you will definitely see a difference. Don't give up! The scale is an evil, evil liar.
