I'd like to join! I'm in a wheelchair and want to build up strength in my legs before hip surgery. Having a hard time walking any distance, so my starting goal is three miles, which is what I used to run.

There is plenty of good advice already listed, so I won't repeat it. I do agree with tossing the scale and using a tape measure for better accuracy. Try to increase protein and watch the fat, sodium, and sugar levels. Eat at least half of your exercise calories back and see what happens.

Where is the LIKE button!! How about an I LOVE IT button! Saved to my desktop to print out in the morning.

Everything in moderation. There is no way I am not going to eat sweets, although I prefer something with fruit now instead of candy bars which are loaded with sugar. If I want dessert after dinner, I have it, but only eat 1/4 of it - I get my sweet craving out of my system, and leftovers I can freeze.

I'm a night eater, so I split mine. I can't eat 1000 calories at a time.

You're looking good! Way to go!!!

Well done!!

Way to go for cutting down on the smoking! Nasty habit, I know. As for the Pepsi - Try drinking unsweetened lemon water, green tea, or just plain water. Welcome to MFP!

Hi Andy, I'm Denise. Welcome to MFP. This is a great group! I'm in the same category. We're all trying to lose the fat and get fit, and you'll find some good information here.

Zumba (aerobics, high), stationary rowing with a resistance band, upper body work with a resistance band (arms, shoulders, back), crunches, sit-ups, ,push-ups, straight-leg lifts, knee lifts, squats, calf raises (seated and standing), shadow boxing (not listed, so I use boxing with a punching bag at half the time).

I'm having to build my strength up, so I aim for 30 min. a day. Going to try for 45/day next week. I exercise 5x a week.

Boredom, anger, stress, and not pre-planning meals.

Don't. Touch. My. Food! I have a hard enough time figuring calories without having to re-figure the amount.

I measure everything unless I'm out, and then I eyeball it.

"Exactly" is never used in scientific debate, and everything is debateable. Glycogen stores are highest in the muscle, although it is also stored in the liver. Given that carb loading is popular (correct form of nutrition?) among bodybuilders/weight lifters, and even my preference for eating a high carb diet as I explained…
-
I've never known any anorexics who preferred a high-carb diet, but it couldn't hurt them - at their low weight, neither would a few hundred Twinkies, at least in the initial stage of putting on weight. That's not to say if they were able to turn around and start eating, they wouldn't need to cut down on carbs if they…

This is exactly what I mean!!

Glycogen is stored mostly in the liver for quick retrieval, and some gets stored in the muscles. The reason bodybuilders have to bulk up on carbs is because glycogen is used as energy, and they have to have the energy to build their muscles and compete. "...excess of carbohydrate intake, exceeding bodily energy expenditure…

If you reread my first comment, I said my favorite meal was legumes and rice. Rice and beans create a complete protein, so even though the carb load is 37g and 42g respectively, there is some protein in white rice. NutritionData.com says white glutinous rice has 37g protein. I use red kidney beans, and they have 13g of…

Bump to read later.

None other than what naturally occurs in food.

They might see a loss in weight, but unless they are doing very high amounts of weightlifting/bodybuilding, they are not going to be healthy. And before you say, "AHA, I'M RIGHT," think about this. Type 2 Diabetics would drop dead with that much sugar in their system. Besides, a sugar high has been proven time and again to…

You look amazing! I say buy the shorts and strut your stuff!
