  • Bump....very interesting thread
  • Everyone stares at you at Planet Fitness and they don't allow you to breathe heavy or sweat? Ooooook...... Must have been a different Planet Fitness then I went to. I think that people tend to imagine that other gym-goers are looking at them more than they really are. In truth, most people care more about their own workout…
  • Not everyone's workout routine revolves solely around the elliptical. She could have been coming from another machine or from the weights section. I get on the treadmill after a big session of heavy lifting and am drenched in sweat usually (though I am not on the treadmill for long). Just move to a different machine and…
  • Just wear deodorant.....Many people are allergic to perfumes and colognes.
  • The part that really bothered me about his email was when he said that she was especially a bad role model for girls, reinforcing the idea that it is better for men to be overweight as opposed to women. However, I will say that the freedom of speech kind of does give you the right to criticize. The entire idea of freedom…
  • I have become much more vain since I lost 40lbs. I constantly look at myself in the mirror (I love staring at the subtle changes in by body – latest observation is that my inner thighs curve inward a little), make sure my clothes look their best and I ADORE buying and playing with new makeup. My question is, how is this a…
  • So detoxing can cure bee stings and cancel out botox? Sign me up!
  • What is wrong with getting a pug from a rescue? Or a mutt from a rescue? Millions of dogs are killed each year just because there are not enough homes. Why support bringing even more into the world?
  • I personally get hungry around my TOM.
  • Someone stopping behind a school bus that didn't have its stop sign out. The bus driver finally waved the car in front of me through so we could all go. (On the reverse side, I got rear ended a few years ago when a 16YO driver didn't know that both sides of the street have to stop if the stop sign is out on a bus)
  • 1) read the two comments on the article you posted. 2) Here is another random article from google that says that it doesn't burn more calories. At least this one lists the author. We can find conflicting google articles all day long. http://getfitguy.quickanddirtytips.com/does-yoga-burn-calories.aspx 3)Look up if running…
  • This. Hot yoga is great for flexibility and loosening up the muscles and I have great respect for it, but burns no more calories than doing the same yoga in normal temperatures.
  • I know that you didn't ask for advice, but would one small treat once a night help the kids? That way they wont feel to deprived (maybe a rice crispy treat or kettle corn popcorn, or a small piece of chocolate). I don't know much about how diet and ADHD do together so I might be completly off the mark here.... But this…
  • The idea that you need help to clense your body is the gimmick. Your liver and kidneys do most of the work to rid your body of the trash. As long as you are eating clean and drinking reasonable amounts of water, you should be fine :-) No need to fast, drink only juice, or take drops for the sole purpose of "clensing".
  • Though the machines pick up the HR, the heart rate is not used in the calories burned formula.
  • Never said you weren't working hard. For the reasons listed in the article, HRMs are not accurate for strength training. Even the instructions for my Polar said it. I am sure you kick *kitten* during work outs (and good for you! ), but that doesn't change the fact that HRMs were not designed for calculating strength…
  • Sometimes I feel ignored.... "SparkPeople's Fitness Tracker doesn't estimate calorie burn for strength training because so many variables are involved (how hard you're working, resting in between sets, the amount of weight you lift, etc.) that any estimate would not be very accurate. A heart rate monitor (HRM) is capable…
  • HRMs do not accurately estimate calories burned for strength training. They are designed for cardio work. I do wish they worked for strength work though!
  • 1. What did you have for breakfast? - 2 Pure Protein bars and protein shake (should change up, but too lazy) 2. How much water do you drink per day? – At least 80oz, but don’t keep track. 3. What are your favorite snacks? - Almonds 4. How many calories do you eat per day? – Varies, right now about 1800 less exercise 5.…
  • But, but, you did respond..... I might not know it all, but I am right about this
  • No one told you to eat more calories than you burned, and no one ever said mfp was the best place to estimate calories burned. Nothing is 100% accurate.
  • Just in my opinion, The push up gives me nice shape, though I don’t have them pushed into my neck or anything :-P
  • Animal abuse…..I cannot comprehend how cruel the human species can be. I always laugh when people accuse pit bulls of being the vicious ones.
  • The problem is that not even experts can agree on what the facts are….so there really is nowhere to find legit nutrition advice. You would think that doctors would be the best source, but there are constantly conflicting studies released by various doctors.
  • Did anyone tell you to eat more calories than you were burning off? Because that is what you were doing. HRM's are highly promoted on here, and people always say how inaccurate calorie burned estimators are. Very little research would have told you all this. You probably shouldn't take anything on this site as 100% truth.…
  • Go for an hour long walk wearing a lot of clothes to sweat out some extra water the morning of the weigh in (but be very careful do not get too dehydrated)
  • You can get a good heavy lifting session in two times a week (at the university) and just go running on your other days. That way you still get your cardio and strength in. Just make sure you are doing compoud lifts and a full body routine.
  • Meh....nothing can kill my appetite. Try researching factory farming and see if you still want to eat mass produced meat. There are usually good local meat shops that sell ethically raised meat though! I am by no means a vegetarian:-)
