  • I wonder if the grilled onion that you were looking at was including a fat component. Maybe whomever had added it in, had added, say 1 or 2 tablespoons of butter to cook it. That's all I can think. I would go back, and add it in as a raw vegetable.
  • Welcome aboard! Have you added in some exercise? I have no doubt that my increased level of energy is a direct result of exercise. Started with walking, and I felt so much more alive!!!
  • McDonald's has a really good nutritional calculator, take a few minutes to check it out before you go. I know in Canada McD's is working hard to re-brand themselves, and I actually wasn't aware until right now that they actually have some decent choices. I would probably pick an entree salad, and a light dressing to go…
  • I was terrified to go to the gym for the first time. But just like everything else we are learning, the anticipation is the worst part. I am lucky that in my area I have a community centre gym. When I visited it, I felt a bit more comfortable as it was filled with people similar to me. It is also less crowded than the…
  • I've lost 18 pounds in just under 4 months. Slow and steady for me! With a total of 51 to lose, I am expecting it to take me approximately one year. But if I'm still exercising and eating well, and it takes longer, that's ok with me too.
  • Sounds like an awesome race!!! I'm running my second one (ever) that same weekend up in Newmarket. Have a great race!
  • We were at my husband's aunt and uncles cottage, and they were sending everyone out kayaking. Hubby and his sister were put in the cool kayaks to go off with cousin who has kayaked the Pacific Northwest. I was put in a paddleboat so not to "have to paddle so hard". At dinner the aunt talked about a friend, and described…
  • Unfortunately my mother-in-law was this type of woman. Her grown daughter is very very thin, to the point of not looking healthy. Last summer my eldest daughter, who is healthy, at a good weight, and active, worked at a summer camp where the food was terrible. A constant diet of fried food (much to my daughter's dismay)…
  • While considering what the above poster write, the measurements could be taken in different spots. However, it is somewhat similar to my loss (except yours is a bit better!)!! I have lost 17 pounds, with 5.5 inches coming off my waist. Or my belly button area, as when I started I couldn't figure out where my waist was - no…
  • Sounds like a great trip! There will be plenty of advice to follow, but I will start off with, please -just go enjoy the trip! You already are thinking good choice, so you are well on your way. But these things come so rarely, don't want to spend your time on a computer plunking in numbers. (just my opinion, anyway). Can…
  • I think I have to change my thinking - I am truly the worst "housekeeper" ever. But since I enjoy exercise so much, maybe if I make it more of a cardio/strength type activity I will engage in it more often, lol!
  • I started because I wanted more than I was getting form my walks. Before I knew it someone had mentioned signing up for a 5k. The feelings I experienced each little step as I got better are hard to describe. The night I ran my first 5k and ran the entire distance, alone, I just knew that as long as I train and prepare for…
  • Welcome to mfp! I'm originally from a bit north of you - up in Wadena! This is a great site, and has been so helpful to me. Good luck!
  • outside while I can.
  • I just ran my first 5k and did it in 42 minutes. I have never been so proud of myself, or felt the wonderful feeling of accomplishment like I did after that. They are all just numbers to me, and I think anyone who takes up running in any way, shape or form has already accomplished so much :-)
  • I just count water. I was trying to teach myself to drink plain old water, and it has worked.
  • Saturdays are my day to sleep in a little later, and read the paper over a cup of coffee. Quiet and peaceful if I'm lucky!
  • I have a mental list of friends in my life who have real battles and struggles. Two have fought to get healthy after bad accidents. I pick one, and think awesome thoughts about them. And I say to myself that I am just running. That's all. And it is nothing compared to what they are doing just to get healthy.
  • Your a great Mom - she will be just fine :-)
  • Congratulations!!! You are such an inspiration to me! I bet you feel like you can conquer the world if needed!
  • Personally, I don't count anything except plain water. I do drink coffee, but my goal in getting stronger, healthier is to cut out the bad stuff and fill up with the good. I am simply trying to train myself to drink more water. When I started I was probably drinking 6-8 oz a day. Def not enough!
  • Just a thought - and I don't know - but what about your local hospital? Could you ask your doctor?
  • Agree like so many....not offensive - and any judgement is just to say congrats!!!! One of the things I find so motivating here is having people actually put their weights, no lies, just the truth. And showing all these great before/during after pictures. It just keeps me going and working hard! Thanks for sharing, and…
  • I feel like I am reading what happened to me in June when I started running! Exact same place. Watch it over the next few days - mine actually came out as a bruise. Went to doctor, as I figured I had torn something - he agreed. I was told to rest a few days, then walk only. I ran again in a few weeks and it tore again.…
  • Congratulations! NSV's are even more awesome than numbers on the scale :-)
  • I'd go visit your doctor. Some have harder periods than others.
  • Running is definitely my great accomplishment. Tonight I ran for 2 miles straight without walking. It seems like just yesterday that I could barely walk to the end of the block and home.
  • Do you have a running store near you? The chain running room also does walking clinics, and has knowledgeable staff about proper footwear. I am so glad I went in to see them.
  • Same advice as above - definitely slow down! Even to the point where you think you are the slowest jogger on the planet! Except you won't be, because that is me, lol! Note - I'm not an expert (obviously, lol) but this is what helped me go from hurting/dying to really making advances: Have a look at how you are running. It…
  • For some reason, this time I am completely motivated to get healthy. It is a different feeling, and I wish I could bottle it and share it with you! Right now my main focus is running - but I started walking mid-May, and have never looked back. What works for me is keeping a spreadsheet of my workout. How long, how many…
