  • I found this article posted on MFP a while back...it helped me break my 6 month plateau. I had to cut my cardio down slightly and up my calories by about 150. The answer may differ for you, you just having to tweak until you figure it out. Good luck.…
  • Exactly, I always want to encourage people running but can never figure out how...lol..I am always SO impressed by others running...of any shape or size...having been there myself!
  • I was remembering them showing his breakfast during the Beijing Olympics just last night and was wondering how hard it is for athletes to adjust! Good to know.
  • When I hit a plateau I had a lot of co-workers tell me that "I look fine"..."maybe this is just where your body is comfortable"... "sometimes at middle age, you just can't lose anymore". ..etc.. I researched, tweaked some things and started losing again. I'm glad I didn't listen. I'm not sure where you're at ...but I'm…
  • I have no idea. My mother is the same way. I've been losing weight for 2 1/2 years. Slow and steady. She was very thin until she got some medical problems and gained as a result. She never has exercised or watched what she ate. She called me once after I'd been losing weight for a year and I mentioned that I was making…
  • What a great job! You look great and clearly have worked really hard.
  • I got a gift certificate from co-workers for Victoria Secret...there wasn't a damn thing in there that'd fit. That was before my heaviest weight too - by about 30 pounds. :blushing: All of these wedding ones reminded me: I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and the groomsmen very loudly groaned and asked why he had to walk down…
  • Welcome. Wanting to be healthy is a great start.
  • Fried chicken and potato skins. Nummy. I'd probably get so sick now if I ate that. I may have them again someday, but I doubt it.
  • 40? Dude...I'm on the dark side of my 30's...don't tell me 40 is old, it's right around the corner.
  • Excellent!
  • That sucks. Jeez...people need some common sense. I don't care how sure I am that someone is pregnant - I'm not saying anything unless they do first. You can totally do it. Every day is a new opportunity. ....and a year from now, you will be SO happy that you did. :flowerforyou:
  • I agree with everything already said...plus, foam roller. I'd never heard of it before running. It helps to stretch out your muscles. My legs were getting way tighter than I realized, and I didn't think it was a big deal. It is - so stretching is good. Welcome to the club! :flowerforyou:
  • ^^^ This. Also, if you factor in fast food that you maybe used to have...is it really more expensive? The portions I was eating before caused me to go through way more food than I do now. I think the price of everything has gone up lately too - at least in the U.S. Bad corn crops...and corn is in almost everything...or fed…
  • When I plateaued it was because I was netting too low. I reduced cardio a bit and upped my calories a bit (100-150 a day) You could try that and see if it works. It started the weight loss again...It's been about 6 weeks and this week I'm upping the cardio again and it seems to still be working. Next plateau I'll probably…
  • ^^^ Hear hear! I totally agree. Just remember steady progress is a good thing. You didn't gain overnight and you won't lose overnight either. Welcome.
  • 100 pounds? That is amazing...and admirable. Feel free to add me. Sounds like maybe you need some new interests or social groups? Volunteering or exercise groups might be helpful. My boyfriend likes to run in a running group every once and a while and that helps keep inspiring and motivating him. Maybe if you have any old…
  • Two things have worked for me: 1 - it's non-negotiable. It's not something I have to have motivation to do - I just do it. Like brushing my teeth or showering. It's just daily maintenance. I don't let myself have the record in my head "explaining" why it's "okay" to skip or whatever..I ignore that until it goes…
  • Nice.
  • I found this article helpful too: http://fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html Good luck!
  • HA! That's great.
  • I would have found it much more difficult to practice appropriate moderation on sweets and refined white carbs when I started...but a couple years later I can handle it. Moderation for me, is necessary, because it's a lifestyle change and I am not going to think "I will never have X again". For me, moderation is primarily…
  • ^^^^^ This...it also helps me to think that everyday is a choice I'm making. It not that "I can never have fried chicken again" it's - "I'm choosing not to eat fried chicken now, cuz it's not worth it". Good luck.
  • I am 5'3 and started at 210 pounds. I started on WW, but switched over to MFP over a year ago. My goal weight is 130, I'm at 142 now. I lost the first 50 pounds through walking. Lots of walking. Eventually, I switched to C25K, which I loved...even though I always hated running, You can do this...you don't get bonus…
  • Hey there, I was on a six-month plateau and someone on these forums posted this article, which helped me. For ME, I had to up my calories by about 150 per day and decrease my cardio a bit...that kickstarted my metabolism again and I've lost another 8 pounds.…
  • Congrats! Great accomplishment!
  • Thanks for the suggestions! A running store employee is one of the ones who recommend I don't wear a brace...but they didn't have a treadmill or anything. I didn't think of a podiatrist! Duh! Thanks!
  • bump. ***crickets chirping***
  • I totally agree - You have to keep tinkering to figure out what's going to work for you. Great post.
