  • After a 6 month plateau, I read this article (posted by someone else on these forums) and I upped my cals by about 150 per day and decreased cardio a bit (about 100 calories). I've dropped 8 more pounds and keep losing. http://www.fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html
  • Congrats! Doesn't it feel amazing? I just started running last year and I can't believe I can count myself as a runner now. Welcome to the club!
  • I found this article really helpful on breaking my 6 month plateau. I got it from a thread on MFP : http://www.fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html For ME, I ended up reducing cardio a bit and slightly upping calories - and I've lost another 10 pounds. I'm 5'3 started at an 18/20…
  • Welcome. You can do this. It sure feels like a drastic change at the beginning. It doesn't feel so drastic now. I eat mostly what I used to, but I control when and how much. As others have said, I also encourage you to log everything - calories can surprise you - I still get surprised occasionally. I resisted calorie…
  • Bumping for later.
  • This article helped me break mine: http://fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html Good luck!
  • My mother got diagnosed with gastroparesis - a complication of diabetes where your stomach is paralyzed. I'd been trying to "scare myself straight" for years ...but that's what did it. A lot of folks with that have to have a feeding tube and baby food for the rest of their lives. I'd recommend taking some slow steps if…
  • I never understand these folks that act like everyone's body processes all foods the same way. I had soup once that was high sodium and gained 1.5 pounds overnight (ok, yeah, sodium and water gain). Except it didn't drop right off. I also will gain weight if I eat a refined white carb (which I rarely do)...even if I'm…
  • HA! That's funny right there.
  • I've lost 70 so far...if I waited people would be laughing at me. lol. I've been buying them all along, but at thrift stores. Also, sometimes it's nice to get something that almost fits and then you get a mini celebration when it fits well the next time you try it.
  • Thanks for the advice. I already busted my plateau though. I'm planning to increase the protein and do the NROWL for Women after I get into the healthy BMI range - less than two pounds away. I'm not shooting for perfect eating. I wouldn't find that sustainable. I definitely eat much much better now...and I'm sure a year…
  • Thanks! I got it from someone else on MFP - I wish I could remember who, but it really helped me.
  • This article helped me quite a bit - http://www.fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html Good luck. Just keep tweaking until you get it. I was plataued for six months...I upped my calories by 150/day and decreases cardio. That's what got my scale moving again.
  • I found this article helpful a while back. I had been plateued for 6 months. I ended up, upping my calories by about 150 a day and decreasing my cardio by about half. I'm actually looking forward to upping the cardio again when I plateau again or reach goal weight.…
  • I recommend walking. Keep it simple - it's free, low-impact and convienient.
  • ^^^ I agree with this. Know thyself. Just plan for a healthier snack.
  • Personally, I think life is too short to do something that makes me feel that crappy. Find something you like at least a bit. I really enjoyed walking and hikes at the beginning, now I like running (still feels weird to type that). Some of the things I like about exercise is that it makes me feel good, gives me a feeling…
  • - I can run! never thought I'd be a runner, but I've done 2 5k's and I really enjoy it. - I can appreciate that clothes look good on me now. I just got a new suit much like one I admired on a skinny coworker a couple years ago. - I can see muscle tone. - I can saw no to ice cream (say what?). If it's not great, I'm not…
  • It's hard...but it gets easier. - I go to places that are easier for me to be good. I don't do fast food at all. - I stick mainly to a protein and a veggie. (One of my go-to's is steak and broccoli - yum!) - I look up nutritional information before going whenever possible and plug it into mfp before I go. - I tell them to…
  • ^^^ This. I find it helpful to log everything. Irregardless of whether or not you went over. It helps to plan for an indulgence too instead of just letting an indulgence happen.
  • The only thing I can tell you is to not wait for magical motivation. I prefer the Nike recommendation - Just Do It. Try to start thinking of exercise as regular maintenance like brushing your teeth. Also, maybe don't try to start with too much - walking is exercise too. Maybe start with that, or swimming...something you…
  • - Everyone at work knows I eat healthy now - so they help..sometimes they take it to another room, for example, instead of waving it in front of my face. - I make sure I eat a good, solid, healthy breakfast before coming in. - I have healthy snacks available to me. (My emergency drawer and the fridge here are loaded with…
  • ^^^^ This. As a country, we don't seem to do "moderation" very well. Also, I hear a lot of people talk about what they "deserve"....but just because you "deserve" something doesn't mean you should have it.
  • I agree that it will probably take care of itself. If it doesn't...here is an article that helped me. http://www.fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html
  • Thanks! That's great. I always wondered how you were supposed to know what frame size you ACTUALLY had...I don't know why it never occurred to me that a calculator would exist.
  • I think so...i upped mine by just about 150 a day and it kickstarted my weight loss again.
  • In addition to the logging in daily and really counting every thing you eat and drink....I think you might need to do some work on why you are using food as a drug. I realize I"m not menopausal yet...I AM perimenapausal....BUT I have seen lots of women on this site who are menopausal and lose. Everyone has challenges. Some…
  • I'm 5'3 and wear a size 10 now. About 143 - 150 ish for me. I'm at 142 now, and can get 8's on and buttoned (for the first time ever!), but breathing...not so much.
  • I find that if I indulge one time, that pretty much solves my craving. I usually have a smore...and it's not held me back at all. I eat it on the day I'm counting as a "free day" and don't go crazy the rest of the day. The low-fat, low-chocolate stuff just enhances my craving for the real thing. Good luck.
