  • - my fingers look much leaner. - my shoe size dropped by 1 1/2 - no more back pain - Ah...belts...Now I see why people need belts. - I can see my toes while standing up. - I can buy things that fit - and aren't sparkly, metallic or covered in sequins.
  • It's take me 2 yrs and 3 mos. to lose 65 pounds. I was stuck for six months until recently, so .5 a week is great. Any progress is progress! The only way you won't get where you want to be is if you quit entirely. Keep it up! Progress is progress. Also, don't forget - you also are not gaining like you might/would if you…
  • Thanks! That's great to hear.
  • I'm 5'3, and recently broke a 6 month plateau by upping my calories by 200, and trimming some of my cardio (insane!) so now I eat between 1340 and 1440 or so. I ate 1200 for a long time, but have had better weight loss eating just a bit more.
  • A girl at work here started her weight loss at about the same time as me and lost about 60 pounds much more quickly. She had to have her gall bladder taken out and told me that her doctor said it was because she lost the weight so quickly. When I asked my doc about it, because I'd never heard of that before, she said that…
  • ^^^ This. For me, having the skinny cows, etc just made my cravings stronger. Now, I enjoy the good stuff as a special treat - max one time a week. :-) It took a while, but now my relationship with ice cream is healthy.
  • Bump - I'd forgotten the website! lol Thanks.
  • I'm 5'3 and I'm shooting for the midpoint of healthy for me - 130, when I get to a couple pounds below healthy I plan to start heavy lifting to shape up.
  • Congrats. I lost my first 55 or so pounds from walking alone, and used the C25k program when I started running. I highly recommend it, and there are some support groups on mfp. Good luck. I agree that "perfection" is not the goal - a balanced lifestyle and overall health is. If you keep active and keep watching what you're…
  • I still have the occassional sweet, but I don't feel addicted anymore. It took FOR-EVER. First I tried to have the crappy substitutes - low fat, sugar-free, homemade cake recipes with diet coke instead of eggs, etc. ...but that just made me crave the "real" thing. Next, I tried the "have a little bit everyday" approach.…
  • I've been scared to up my intake too. Then I looked at my historical total cal, net calories and weight loss the following day and realized that the difference between my "big loss' days and my "big gain" days was eating 200 calories more a day. So instead of going TDEE - 20% I decided to up to my BMR and started dropping…
  • If you stick with it, you will succeed. The only way you won't succeed is if you stop working to be healthy. Here are some things that have worked for my plateaus (my last plateau was six months long before I figured out the problem...so less than 3 weeks? nice.): - re-doing the weight loss settings on mfp. As you lose,…
  • I totally agree with this. You can do this. Your body needs a bit of rest time and you need to make sure you aren't UNDER eating. I know that sounds odd, but a lot of people on here had to add a few calories to start losing again.
  • Yep. I lost the first 50 from walking and the occasional aerobics video. Then I switched to jogging, because it's faster and I finally felt like I could do it. Eating sensibly and exercise can only produce good results! stick with it. You can do it.
  • Me too! Thanks...you see all these discussions about eating more, but few people who can give you a full story. :-)
  • I never really noticed how much I was putting on at the time either, which really blows my mind now. You are definitely not the only one whose done that. ...Theres a quote from Maya Angelou that occurs to me here..."When you know better, you do better." It took me a long time to view weight loss as a journey to a fit life…
  • I just wanted to let you know you can do it. I just finished the C25k a couple months ago and it totally exceeded my expectations. I've run two 5ks since finishing and it feels fabulous. The best pieces of advice I got was to repeat a week if you couldn't finish it and that the side stitches would go away on their own with…
  • I agree with eating some additional calories - especially if you aren't hungry with 1200 calories. I recently upped my calories by a couple hundred and started losing again. What you eat is really important - at least for me. I once made a "healthy" vegetable/beef soup and gained 1.5 pounds due to the sodium. I also tend…
  • I've been stuck for 6 months....reviewed my MFP data and realized that I had cut more calories to break the plateau and never readjusted. Upped my calories to 1200 NET and not under my BMI (approx 1400) and I've started losing again. I was only under-eating by about 200 calories...give it a try.
  • That's great! Do you mind sharing what you are doing? (i.e. how heavy? using machines or free weights? how long?) Thanks!
  • I've been wearing a brace since I originally posted this, and am running fine now. :-) There is hope.
  • I keep hearing that lifting heavy is the best for losing inches, but haven't started that myself yet. I just started strength training last month. I also think measuring yourself and/or using a tape measure on a regular basis is important. ...and showing your kids that eating healthy can be done. Maybe some meal prep on…
  • What's worked for me has been planning for a treat on a "free day". I eat within my calories, etc. six days a week. On day 7, I don't binge, I don't go crazy, but if I go a bit over it's ok. So, if I want pizza on Thursday, and free day is Saturday...I wait until free day. If I still want it, I have some. I look forward to…
  • ^^ same here. I was worried when I read about it, but it didn't impact my weight loss at all.
  • ^^ I totally agree with that. It's a lifestyle change, after all. It took me a really long time to even think I might possibly be able to run. I think you did an excellent job!
  • I totally felt this way about my usual run yesterday - so I used the elliptical instead. Maybe mix it up on those days...just a nice long walk in the sunshine is better than nothing and may perk you up. :-)
  • I started at 210 pounds, and I'm 5'3. You can totally do this. The main piece of advice I'd have is, if you ever fall off for a bit, just get right back on as fast as possible. Changing your habits overall doesn't mean that one "bad" meal is the end of your life. It's a process. It gets easier. I started because of all the…
  • One of the things that helped me so far, was to plan for an indulgence. So, I eat "perfect" for six days a week, and then, have one free day. I don't go crazy on free day, but with maybe have a treat I'd been craving - a baked potato and some ice cream for example. But, a normal portion size. Also, I found that all that…
  • ^ That. My first (and only so far) was 34:14. I was disappointed in that a bit also...until people reminded me that it was about finishing and accomplishing something.
