  • How about snapping a photo of your meals when you are the run...then you can go back and log your foods later in the day. Logging foods, reaching for healthy choices than not so healthy are all behavioral changes and they can consistent repetition and focus I the beginning but eventually that will be second nature.
  • Try paying attention to the texture or flavor of what you are craving. It is the crunch factor that you are missing...try some celery! Are you seeking sweet try a tic tac or salty....try low salt rice cakes etc. Sorry I cannot do any corn so the popcorn is not an option for me!
  • Not sure what you mean by eating clean? However if you are eating whole grain wheat, that can bloat ! Yes I know it is supposed to be good for us, etc but try other grains for a few days to see if it makes a difference.
  • Uhhmmm...right there is a misstep in your argument. You cannot ever change someone else's behavior. That is only for them to do. You cannot make your boyfriend push against his Mom if he respects and abides by her rules at this time. You cannot make her see your side of the issue or change her mind about the trip. So that…
  • Congratulations on the weight loss thus far! Excercise.....depending on your current fitness levels you might to begin with a walking regimen. There are many folks on this site who do far more intricate workouts with weights etc. Walking each night( three miles in 45 minutes), some simple stretching and excercises with…
  • If you are using the apple cider vinegar from the grocery store you are not getting all the nutrients and pectin from the apples. If you are using the one from a health food store then you are getting the digestive support from the pectin etc. You should be aware of the acid levels for,the reasons you state, tooth enamel,…
  • You are on the right track with the oil supplements. Another thing that is great for your skin is oil of rosemary, you can find it in a health food store. The other person's advice about drinking more water is also a great idea. Do you eat yogurt for the good probiotic cultures? Last thought: do a search for the term leaky…
  • Consider removing certain types of calories from your diet for awhile to see if that prompts the scale to move. For example, once my sister moved away from all wheat products, but ate other grains like oats, rye, pumpernickel etc....she lost almost 35 pounds in a year. Most everything else she kept the same...diet, amounts…
  • Stretching does help, stand on your bottom step and gently lower your heels towards the ground....hold for a few seconds and repeat etc. Also I drink smart water, it has the electrolytes like Gatorade but no flavoring or artificial colors etc....
  • Flavor: as someone already said, spices but the new growing season is upon us! Plant an herb garden in a pot, on your porch etc. Pick the stems when ready: I tie them together and hang them in my dining room to dry completely. Then crumble them on waxpaper and store in clean jars in my spice cupboard. I can tell you that…
  • You have the decision to make on how you will take your next step, no one can change another persons behaviors: only their own. You do not state how old your children might be, can you go out for walks or the playground more with them now that spring has sprung? Can you link up with other Moms in Your area and watch their…
  • I use non fat plain yogurt, still has 12 grams of sugar for six ounces. Then having that as a base: construct your flavors and textures. I like to add berries, sometimes with a little cereal on top for crunch, sometimes just cereal and a little applesauce for added sweetness, fresh veggie sticks for dipping, etc. I get 15…

  • You need to try rice milk cheese if you want to swear off food for a few days! I am milk intolerant and went through a period of,trying sheep, goat, water buffalo type products for balance in my diet. Nothing is more off putting than rice milk cheese and margarine. Please feel some compassion for those folks who truly do…
  • I have had these problems several times over the years and each time a chiropractor was able to get things back in line and no pain! The one stretch that I do is to lay on my back and pull both knees up to chest and and the pull tighter for the count of ten. Reals and do again. The do one leg at a time while pulling your…
  • I drink Smart Water.....( I can hear the comments now) but it has all of the electrolytes such as gatorade with no artificial sugars or colors. I cannot digest bananas so I drink this, it works when I get leg cramps etc...
  • Consider latch hook rug making, you can purchase kits or design your own. Plastic canvas items with yarn, all small enough to do on your lap while watching tv etc.. Scrap booking is a little more mess with more items to store, knitting or crocheting, or consider making your own designs with the embroidery. Then place them…
  • Not sure you are saying one task for every homework missed,etc,etc......blast it hard and heavy. Pick 5 daily tasks that are hard to do and he does them every day all five every time he misses nor assignment. If there is a full week of all done, the. One task is removed but it becomes an agreement of which task to remove.…
  • You may want to consider the gluten aspects of oatmeal? Whenever I eat too much wheat or other grains, I also get poofy in The middle. I respond better to higher lean proteins and veggies once I change my eating habits. Everything has consequences and even though they say whole grains are good for us....they may not good…
  • You could create a ski pass with information on it: you have received a gift for skiing with ...??? etc. Then cut each pass up into a few pieces like a jigsaw puzzle, once they put it together they will be able to read and find out what their gift will be. You did not state the ages of the children so I cannot tell if this…
  • Even though your blood work was fine that is still a blood sugar reaction. Consider breaking up your breakfast into smaller portions, eat early then save an apple or piece of cheese for a 10 Am snack etc. You would not get the reaction when you have tea with sugar because it stablized the blood sugar for you. I have had…
  • Make sure to vary your route with different hills so your body does not get used to your routine. My friend and I have been walking three miles each day we can, she has lost 30 pounds by also adding in some resistance work with light weights etc. Good walking sneakers are a must and replace them when the tread on the…
  • On a positive note, you are well on your way to checking things of the big list as to what works for you and what does not. Counting calories, for me, is a way to track more globally how my food choices effect the number on the bathroom scale. Some days I go over my "limit" and other days based on my day: I do not eat all…
  • Any food or texture that is appealing to you is breakfast food! Smoothies can be made the night before, just grab and go in AM. I used to like whole wheat toast with peanut butter but discovered I am sensitive to not only wheat but peanut butter as well. I have a half of sandwich each morning: one piece of rice bread…
  • I used to use flaxseed oil about 12 years ago, I have since switched over to more Fish oil and Co Q 10 rice bran oils. I can tell you for the first few months that I did the flaxseed oil, I gained 5 pounds. Once I cut it back to one a day not three a day.....my weight stablized. The one thing that does cause me a little…
  • A few other things to consider: apple cider vinegar will reduce bloating. Drink 1 to 2 tablespoons in 4 ounces of water as you eat your meals. My husband cannot be bothered with that, he just downs the vinegar and then drinks water if he has problems. The natural pectin in raw apples will also work if you eat them when you…
  • Are you familiar with Dr Christine Northrup book called the "wisdom of menopause?" It was truly my go to read when I was getting through those 5 to 6 years. I followed her ideas and the one thing that I did and still use now ( just turned 60 this week!), I still use the progest cream twice a day. From my perspective it is…
  • You may want to consider taking one food type at a time out of your diet and see if that "helps" in some way. I know that many people say that high fiber grains are the way to go. They make me bloated and they make me gain weight. I do not digest them well. So I switched to a rice bread, rice cakes and crackers, even my…
  • Congratulations for following up on your concerns and beginning to take a pro-active road to better health. You will probably need synthroid but it may take some time to correctly adjust the dosage. In the meantime, eat healthy, move and do what you can ( every little bit helps) and be aware of things like artificial…
  • Please note that any substance can have an ill effect for all of us. If you consume too much of anything, one day you will eat it and have a reaction. There are cases where those who use too much artificial sugars of any kind have MS like symptoms, my secretary was one of them. Numbness in the hands, not able to hold heavy…
  • When you are really, really hungry drink a glass of water, do find something to do: dust your bedroom, sweep the porch, pick a book and read something. Wait 20 to 30 minutes and see if you are really, really hungry or just bored!?
