Hopefully they will have lots of new toys to keep them occupied!! :)

I go back January 3rd, because I work at a university that is completely closed for the break! It's one of the perks that comes along with my menial desk job that pays beans... lol!

Blue Cross Federal is THE BEST... my parents have it too, they are both federal employees at a V.A. hospital... I was very sad to be booted off their insurance when I got too old! My current insurance is pretty good, but nothing compared to BCBS Federal! haha

I think it depends on the kid's maturity level, and also the area-- is it familiar, is it "safe," do you know lots of your neighbors, etc. I think they don't always need to be supervised, but you should still be aware of where they are and who they're with. I would never let my (hypothetical) kids go to someone else's…

Yeah I agree... I think "boss" has a lot of negative connotations, and doesn't really represent what it means to be the "head of the household."

The question is, where do they draw the line-- how muchw eight lost will qualify you for this? Do you need to demonstrate evidence that the skin is causing medical problems? etc... I think if the skin is causing major problems, than yes... but if it's solely cosmetic, like you just have some hangy skin under your arms and…

"What's the reason to jailbreak an iPod?" ...lol... I'm the family techie...

Public colleges allow student groups which are specific to particular religions/cultures/etc, as long as any student is allowed to join. For example, at my university I could join the Black Student Union if I felt like it, and they would not be allowed to deny me membership. Student fees pay for club funding, so they have…

Fox News makes me want to throw things at the TV... for the safety of my TV (and my brain cells) I simply cannot watch it!! So I miss out on the precious gems like these... lol.

I never understood all the hype to "get prayer back in schools!!!!" or whatever. Prayer never left the schools! I prayed in school often, sometimes by myself, and also daily with a group of Christian students between 1st and 2nd period. I would also bring my Bible to school and openly read it during free time if I felt…

Well, it mentions abuse OR neglect... so perhaps the children were not being cared for adequately. Also, if it was a domestic violence situation, it could be a very negative and dangerous environment for the kids. The name alone is not reason to take the kids... unfortunately for the kiddos, their parents can give them a…

Yes! This is the way my husband and I understand it too. I am naturally a very planning-oriented person, so I have quite a bit of input on decisions we make, and that sort of thing. I'm also the one who pays the bills and keeps an eye on the checking account, tries to create the budget (an ongoing process!), etc. etc. But…

I am also allergic to most metals, and it was difficult to get my ears pierced. Attempt #1 when I was eight failed, I had to take them out because they were inflamed and becoming infected. Attempt #2 when I was sixteen was better-- I think hypoallergenic earrings have improved over the years. Even still, I had to deal with…

They don't believe in any form of birth control, nor do they believe in taking any sort of action that would prevent a pregnancy... so I don't think she will "try" again, but she's not going to actively avoid a pregnancy either. I'm sure she realizes that the chances of her having more children becomes slimmer and slimmer…

I don't remember ever truly believing in Santa... Maybe until I was 5 or 6... But the whole concept seemed so odd to me. I did WANT to believe, and I would ask my parents if Santa was real, they would say "yes of course he is," which would make me doubt my own thoughts on the matter... And I'd think "well maybe he is…

I don't like the word when it's used in a derogatory way, like "that's so retarded," --similar to "that's so gay." Both the words "retarded" and "gay" have appropriate uses in the correct context-- but using them to describe something as bad/dumb/stupid is not one of those appropriate uses. Obviously I know we can't "ban"…

I didn't read through what was already posted, sorry... BUT I'm not a big fan of the whole "Santa" thing. Not sure how to approach it with my (future) kids, but my husband and I have agreed that we don't want to blatantly make things up, like "Oh Santa comes in the house and gives you presents, and make sure you're good,…

...Did you actually read the study that you linked? That's from the conclusion of the study you posted. The study basically states that as vaccinations increased and bacame more widespread, so did autism rates... BUT once vaccination hit its peak (about 95% of the kids in the country), autism rates CONTINUED to increase.…

Me too!! I agree with all of that. I'm kind of a hippie though. lol!!

I was thinking the same thing, I wish there was a way to split the thread! Theres some interesting debates going on, but they're all overlapping :(
-
Certainly. I said there is MORE evidence that shows no link, than there is evidence which shows a link. (Furthermore, a correlation does not equal a causation, but that's a whole other story.) Also, you aren't citing an actual journal. You're citing a blog with an obvious bias. What do you know about the researchers who…

Here's the thing-- A study in 1998 linked autism to the MMR vaccine. However, in subsequent years the research was considered to be invalidid, and the article was retracted. http://articles.cnn.com/2010-02-02/health/lancet.retraction.autism_1_andrew-wakefield-mmr-vaccine-and-autism-general-medical-council?_s=PM:HEALTH…

No you're probably right, I just searched really quickly... but either way, they are NOT the biggest... lol
-
I've seen it as well... the funny thing is-- it's definitely NOT the largest! lol! There are at least 4 groups that are larger: 1) LGBT+ 2) Recipe Swap! 3) Christians Unite 4) Long Distance Runners 5) THE LARGEST GROUP EVER ON MFP !!

Now, I never said that...! I do think those who clearly declare that they want to be away from God will be granted their request in the end. That's as far as I'll go. There are some who feel that the "lake of fire" is more of a metaphor used to represent being consumed, or destroyed, in the way that fire destroys and…

Yes indeed... coffee grounds are great for compost bins, too!!

Really?? My real tree last year was $20, and the fake ones I saw were $50+... But yes, in the long run it is cheaper, since you don't replace them yearly! But the smell... AND you don't have to assemble the things, or store the tree during off-season... the list goes on  ...I also like the experience of picking out a…

You think those are fun?? More power to you...!! I had to do one with a group for some team building exercise (or something), and I found it VERY stressful, emotionally draining, and depressing!! I think I mentally connected with my imaginary 12 people a bit too realistically... haha!

Nope, never... I'm quite attached to my facebook, actually... possibly a bit too attached. Facebook was just becoming well-known among college students the year that I began college (back when it was open to college kids only!), so therefore my Facebook account really chronicles my entire college experience. If my account…
