I agree - I'm thinking if you are in maintenance, that you will have to 'make up' at least a little bit for a big 'cheat' day or you will gain weight!

bump for when I get there!

I'm in the same boat.. If I am only eating to lose .5 lbs a week, I can definitely undo my hard work that week in only one day...makes you think twice!
-
This is great advice.

What about reversing this? As in, you didn't 'save' up , but you did go out for dinner/drinks - can you then create that deficit the following 7 days? Let's say you went over by 1,000 calories, spreading that 1,000 over the next 7 days would be eating 142 calories less (or exercising to burn 142 more). Thoughts?

This worked for me, too! When I was trying to eat everything 'clean', I would probably binge every 2 weeks because I felt so restricted.

This is me totally!

Thank you!

If you just logged it and move on with your maintenance calories, that would mean that you're going to gain, right? I mean, gain hardly anything to worry about... but if you don't make up for it, how are you expected to keep maintaining? If you're on a deficit, I would understand not worrying about since you had been in a…

Good idea!

yes! Once I figured this out, life felt more freeing... I don't dread going to they gym just burn off calories. Much easier to just eat a little less/budget calories. Now, I actually like getting exercise (in the form of yoga or walking)...keeps me moving!

I'm 5'3" , 127lb and average about 1300 net a day...trying to lose about 1/2 lb a week. My exercise is power yoga 4x/week with an occasional walk 1-2x/week. I eat back about 1/2 my calories.

Great idea with the water enhancer!!

This happened to me, too! Weighing and tracking accurately and just knowing your maintenance versus deficit calories is mind opening!

This doesn't really make sense to me... Why would eating less than the recommended calories stop working? If you're still eating at a deficit, you're bound to lose weight. If it's all about CICO (mentioned all throughout this thread), then it wouldnt' matter if it's less than recommended...as long as it's less than your…

[quote= You only have 1500 calories for maintenance? Plus you don't eat your exercise calories back? That seems awful low. I'm a 53 year old woman who maintains weight on an average of 2,200 calories a day (1980 net), and I'm smaller. [/quote] Everyone's body is different. I'm 32, 5'3" and my maintenance is about 1500 as…

Wonderful explanation! Thanks for all the helpful responses...this definitely makes sense to me. Small deficit it shall be.
