Great point! My maintenance is really only around 300 cals extra...That's like a nice bowl of icecream extra. Damn! Didn't learn that the 1st time around...This time when I hit maintenance, I have to realize i can' t go hog wild on food.
-
Congrats on your maintenance! Thanks for your input :)

Thanks for your input! When you say 300 cal. deficit, is that daily or weekly? I am still trying to lose and eat at my losing calories, but the weekends end up ruining it for me... so I just end up maintaining unintentionally! Which is fine..once i want to maintain... but yea, frustrating when you're still trying to lose…

oh nice! I usually add left over calories as Exercise titled "Banked". But interesting to know you can do it this way , too!

How do people have cheat days or high calorie days on maintenance? If you do that each week, you'll gain, right? I'm able to do a higher calorie day because I'm at losing cals, so it'll put me at maintenance for the week if I go over. But yea, if I was eating at maintenance already, that just means I'd have to make up for…

I agree - I'm almost at maintenance and this is what I fear!
-
SOMETIMES the promise can be broken, but OP, you can also make up for it as well (and not feel guilty for it). I do this. I can't always plan out each days meal or plan for a splurge on the weekend ..sometimes the splurge happens on a weekday!! ...so if I happen to go out to dinner one night (not planned) and eat over…

I love this, perfect response: "Thanks. I've been working hard to get healthy. Thanks for noticing."

This is what I do as well! I realized after a lot of trial and error, that my workouts really only burned MAYBE 175-200 calories....(and i didn't even enjoy it). I was eating well over that. Once i adjusted how many calories I consumed and didn't really worry that much about exercise, weight came off. Now, my exercise is…

I personally would eat at a deficit for the next week so I wouldn't gain the extra pound or two (quite noticeable on MY small frame). I imagine if you go over maintenance calories, you would gain weight/fat. If you were already in a deficit, you'd stay the same. I guess I don't understand the advice to go on as normal…
-
1. Not restricting any foods 2. Knowing what my true maintenance/losing calories are... Understanding weekly calories. 3. Finding exercise that is enjoyable and sustainable.

I agree that it comes down to diet. For a long time, I always thought it was exercise... so I would workout a ton and lose weight. I never really paid that much attention to food, calorie wise. But eventually, I would stop working out as much b/c I got burnt out... Inevitably, I would put back on the weight. I would get so…

I see... thanks for the info!

I put on an old sports bra and didn't feel the extra back flab poking out :)

People are saying you lose more lean muscle on 1200 per day... Why would this happen at 1200 and no other calorie goal? Isn't a deficit a deficit?
-
Depending on when it is, I would eat very light at breakfast and very light at dinner and would not log the potluck. The next day or two, I'd probably eat a couple hundred cals less or work out a little longer.
-
Did you stay on 1200 throughout your entire weightloss? How many cals do you maintain on currently?
-
Same for me.

I was always nervous about this, too... until I realized that I have the power to decide what to eat or not. Sounds silly, but I always felt like I had to eat so much food when I went out to dinner with friends... Now realizing that it's in my control to eat how much and what, it's gotten way easier. At work, we always…

5' 3" SW 136 CW 127 GW 123-125 my cal goal is set to 1200, but almost always go over..so ends up being about 1300-1350. I've been losing so slowly though.. maybe a pound a month!? I'm very sedentary though, so I just need to work out a little more.
-
This is one of my biggest problems, too..Feeling like I HAVE to eat it all or it goes to waste! I can relax now and think of it like - "It's still wasting food if you eat it and your body doesn't need it." Better to be in the garbage than your stomach!

Thanks for your input!

Were you eating back your calories on your cardio days? Just curious...I'm the same stats as you! 5'3" started at 136 and now at 127... I can't seem to lose anymore!
-
That's true..my maintenance isn't' that far off from my deficit! I have remember that once I 'move' into my maintenance calories.I'm losing so slowly, that it's really not that noticeable until about 3 1/2 weeks at a time :( I think that's why in the past, when I would get off the deficit, I seemed to gain SO QUICKLY..but…

Yummy! Good idea.

Do you like fish? You can have a filling dinner of breaded fish fillets (2 at 100 cals each) plus 1 1/2-2 cups of steamed brocolli for under 300 calories!
-
Agreed. I'm short and work at a desk job all day...so 1200 works for me. Everyone is different.
