Finding balance in food
I have to share this incredibly well written blog post about finding balance in food choices. This really resonated with me...as I was an obsessive 'clean eater' for a long while. I'm working on finding more balance and it's helping me live a happier life overall. I think anyone struggling with that will love this post!…

Saving up versus Making up calories
I've read a lot about banking calories throughout the week to save up for a special occasion where you know you'll most likely eat more than usual. I agree with this theory and have practiced it before. However, I've also read in the same threads that it's better to save up/bank calories rather than splurging and THEN…

Rebelling against exercise
I've been working out as long as I can remember...and not really for fun - just because I felt I had to, to maintain or lose weight... I honestly hated it, but did it anyway. Now that I truly understand CICO, I have been dialing back intense workouts and focus on eating at a deficit. I actually never want to workout now -…

Never satisfied after dinner
I've been noticing a pattern lately. I'll eat dinner, but then continue to scrounge around for food...maybe 30 minutes later or so.. and continue this the rest of the night. Sometimes I can control all the snacking, but more often than not, I'll keep asking myself, "Hm, what else can I eat?" I eat pretty early (around 6),…

Last 5lbs - why keep the deficit small?
I'm getting close to my goal weight/size and I think that's about 5-7 lbs. I read that you need to be in a small deficit when it comes down to the last pounds...but no one explains why. What is the benefit of doing this? I also hear that the less weight to lose, you have a smaller margin of error to work with .. to me that…

Over your daily caloric limit? It's ok!
Weekly calorie counting. I've been doing this method for awhile now and I love it. It really makes it easier to reach my goals without freaking about going over one day. Here's a great article that explains weekly calorie county instead of strictly daily counting. Try it out if you get down about going over your daily…

Spreading out calories throughout the week
I usually do this unintentionally, but as long as I'm around my goal net calories for the week, I don't' sweat it (versus every day the same amount of calories). My question is, what if I'm on the LAST day of my week and I end up splurging.. aka, go over my calories by 500+? My week is finished for me to spread them out…

Maintenance calories after losing weight/fat
I'm eating 1200 calories NET a day to hopefully lose around 1 pound a week. MFP has my maintenance set at 1600... SO, after I reach my goal weight/fat loss, I would then be able to eat around 1600 NET, to maintain that loss.... correct? I am seeing threads on here saying "If you are eating 1200, your body will gain weight…

Steady state cardio and HRM's
I've read plenty of threads about how using a HRM to calculate calories burned doing other than steady state cardio is not very accurate (HIIT, Lifting, etc). I do understand that and am not questioning it. My question is: What constitutes steady-state? What if I jog for 5 minutes, walk 1, jog 5 up to 45 minutes... is that…

How to balance classes and strength training?
I have been working on getting more strength training in for the past 5 weeks and have been noticing progress! I do strength training about 3 times a week. I also am taking a cardio bootcamp class at the gym that I love 1x a week (and I never LOVE classes). I recently purchased a punch card for bootcamp classes and I want…

Building Muscle on a calorie deficit?
I am trying to build more muscle (more weights, less cardio), but I also need to lose about 5-8 pounds of fat . I read that you can't build muscle that well on a calorie deficit. But... if I don't eat at a calorie deficit, how will I lose the fat? I'm thinking if I eat at a maintenance level or above to gain muscle - I'll…

IIFYM - How do you make it 'fit' so easily?
I have read numerous success stories from people who do IIFYM. They say it's easier, more flexible than straight clean eating or calorie counting . I understand the concept and I would like to try it--- my only concern is that it would be so time consuming, hard to track, always thinking about your #'s, etc. I count…

Binge Eating and the next day...
Hi, I have the occasional binge (anywhere from 1,200 to 3,000 over my daily calorie intake) and I know you're supposed to go on the next day or two or week , like nothing happened. Continue to eat healthy and NOT lower your calorie intake or exercise like a mad person to 'make up for it.' as to not prevent another binge. I…
