I made my way around Eastern & Central Africa for nearly 10 years before coming back to the states. Been back just 2 years now and still miss living in the bush almost every day! Where are you in TZ?

I don't, however GREAT job on your last cigarette!! I had my last cigarette on December 6th, 2009- gained weight and was able to lose it again. It just takes some time. Keep up with this site and know that even if you put on a few pounds it will come off. Keep up the great work!!

I'm a self-proclaimed PB/Almond butter junky... it's one of the few foods that I just can't eat b/c I totally lack the willpower to make myself stop eating it. Its really sad

Hey All!! I started the 30DS the 22nd and am on Day 7... did you all go through the entire 10 days before moving on to Level 2?

It is absolutely possible! The human body can do some pretty incredible things :)

When I quit smoking I made that my number one priority- I did gain wait I won't lie, but there were multiple factors at play. Now after more than a year and a half after quitting I made getting back to my old weight my number one priority and it took only 4 months. I realized that to really quit and succeed at quitting I…

Have you tried greek yogurt? Its filling, tonnes of calcium (and protein) and surprisingly filling. Its great with any kind of fresh fruit, preserves and/or granola!

I know that this may be a very novel idea, but many people runners view running as therapeutic and its a mental exercise as much as a physical one. I can't think of a single person who runs those kinds of distances just to 'work out'. It may be that a large number of these "marathon runners" are perfectly happy with their…

yup! I did a 5K run (really just a slow paced jog) followed by 30 minutes doing laps in the pool. I'm really starting to enjoy the run/swim combo, I find it really refreshing!!

What am I doing wrong... I can't get it to upload!?!?

This is the best post I have seen regarding the whole veggie issue. It is NOT a diet as so many think that it is. It is a conscious decision that can be made for a number of different rationales. I was a vegetarian for a number of years. My family is the epitome of meat and potatoes. Aaand meat and meat. It was a big…

I love doing this too- I think it is so interesting how the weight fluctuates! I also like to weight myself at night and in the morning to see the fluctuations. I always wonder where the weight goes over night, it's like socks in the dryer! There have been some nights that my weight has gone down like 3lbs and I always…

I love love LOVE that I have an *kitten*- granted right now it is still in the time zone size and I would like to get it into more of an area code... well area. All in all though, and I've said this before: it is better to have had an *kitten* and lost than to have never had an *kitten* at all! I wish that as my weight…

Ooooh one more thing- since you are a celiac (I'm not and this is still something I always do and have for I don't know how long) always make sure that you have something in your purse to eat at all times. It totally sounds silly, it is such a mental thing for me, but I always have to have something in my bag, a snack- as…

I agree with the person who suggested a short walk. I've been trying really hard as well to find my triggers for food and offset them before they flair up... so to speak. I can also sympathize about the bad news on the work front, I'm going through the same thing. Use it to your advantage! Get out there and clear your head…

This is so well written! Have you considered starting a blog?

I'm wondering if perhaps during your first weigh-in you had a lot of water retention causing excess weight when you started? If you've only been at it for 3 weeks and lost 11lbs (more than 2lbs/week) that could explain some of the loss and a bit of not seeing a decreasing clothing size.... Just a thought.

First of all, maybe my HRM is totally screwy as I am burning WAY more than the machines say! I use a wrist HRM and I make sure to take a moment every 5 minutes (no matter what machine I'm on) to check in w/my HR and make sure to get the most accurate reading AND to see if I need to amp up my effort or take it back a notch.…

Brilliant movie! To anyone who has a Netflix account you can watch it anytime through the streaming video function. I agree that it is defiantly a must see. There are the commercials on now- you know the ones paid for by the corn growers or what not, they go something like this: man #1: (points at red Popsicle) "hey!…

I'm not too sure either but I'm a comfortable 10 at 30 inches and at 28 inches I'm a fitted 8 (size 29 waist- what I'm trying to get back to...) What I do know is that at least w/jeans the typical measurements (taking into account that all are a bit different depending on brand/style) is: 28 inches= size 6 29 inches= size…

Oi Taco Bell does this to me time and time again, it is the only fast food that I have even touched in about 6 years and still without fail every time I'm on US soil I cause my body pain and agony... I always say never again, maybe I keep going back because of the odd comfort in knowing that my body is still rejecting…

Wow, there was just another post about candida yesterday. I was dealing with candida for the last 10 months or so and finally about a month ago I got it under control and can tell that balance has been restored (yay!!!) That said it was a loooong road to recovery and I as well the first time around put on weight INCREDIBLY…

Oh, one last quick thought- make sure that you are really reading the labels on EVERYTHING. Yeast extract is a very common filler in foods and spices and something that you definitely want to stay away from.
-
I feel you on this, I have been struggling with candida for nearly a year and can feel now that I've finally got balance back into my intestines (not the easiest feat as I was living in the bush, literally until about 4 months ago). I would suggest eating as clean as possible and take a healthy dose of probiotics daily.…

I currently weigh about 170- I burn 800+ calories regularly (about 3-4 days a week). I've found that wearing my HRM ensures that I am really able to gauge how hard I am making my body work and it keeps me in the zone. In a 60 min. workout I would say that I never let my heart rate fall below 75% and for at least 40 minutes…

Cadence Revolution! It rocks, there is a download once a week with a featured track (find it as a podcast or at www.cadencerevolution.com) Its independent music made to workout to- esp. for running and cycling. It even has a weekly workout that is the equivalent of a spin class. I highly recommend it :)

I've struggled with the same problem for as long as I can remember. The only difference is that I think the guilt was what made me feel nauseous. No matter what I never felt 'good' after eating breakfast. Every so often I would listen to the advice of "breakfast is the most important meal of the day", and all the others…

This is EXCELLENT advice!

I have this same question. If my daily caloric intake is approx. 1500-1600 but net is under 1200 is my body really going into starvation mode? I as well love going to the gym and I don't do it to 'eat' the calories. I've added breakfast to my daily meals (bad habit I'm really trying to break is always skipping breakfast)…
