  • I sold it and bought a Forerunner 620
  • Yeah, I just forgot it had autopause (and it was turned on...I was using it earlier!!) and stopped the damn thing. LOL
  • It's going well! I've moved up from averaging 12mph to 14-15.....Did my longest ride the other day of 55 minutes and 13.3 miles...there are a LOT of hills in my area and they only seem to go up LOL. Learning the correct gears, what's comfortable for me, and also standing up while going up hills as been a big help. Had to…
  • 74 or so......I'm fluctuating between 163 and 167 right now.....I started at 240.....training for my first set of tri's after 2 marathons (3rd coming this year), and my fist IronMan next may.
  • Ha, 47....thats nuts
  • I tried not to cruise and keep peddling for some "free speed" downhills, but yeah, blind curves made me slow down. I didn't want to get hit by a car lol
  • Well, learned the gearing system.....my ride was much better and I averaged an extra 1.6 mph on the roads....I just wish they weren't so curvy sometimes I maxed at like 23 on the straights at one point.
  • I understand what you are saying......but the water is like maybe a little more than stomach deep. People seriously go swimming and canoeing in this thing all the time....I've been in this river quite a bit. I've never had any issue with any part of it. I won't be cancelling because races are non-refundable. I'm sure it'll…

  • The kayaking isn't whitewater....it's more like a mild stream pushing you along LOL....it's nowhere NEAR heavy rapids, so I think I'm pretty safe when it comes to that. As far as upperbody and core, I've got that, lots of pushups and back work and a lot of core work. One thing I did notice yesterday when on the still lake…

  • Got out today and did about 30 minutes on a still lake......managed about 17:45 per mile, it was my first time out ever. Really need to work on technique, but will get out a few more times before the triathlon June 7th

  • Thanks everyone for all the help! I've checked out that YouTube site and it really is great!! I think I may even be able to do my own fitting with their help. The bike is really close so I don't think there will need to be too much of an adjustment. I will make sure to grab some of that butter and shorts lol.
  • ESPECIALLY this! I ran the first 16 miles the last marathon I ran at a pace about 1:00 faster than my original goal and bonked at the 20 mile mark......it sucked....a LOT.
  • Will definitely be taking this in for a fit at some point. I don't really mind putting money into it because as long as the parts are replaceable I can go ahead (even though the frame is a bit heavier) and make it a more expensive bike for a little less money (at least that's the idea, I could be very wrong). Fit's are…
  • SBRRepeat, YES it's the Little Miami Tri! I've never heard of House of Run n Tri, I'll look them up, and I will also try and do a ride with them on a Wednesday night! That beginners bike course would be awesome! I realize I DO need to get faster, on Flats I'm about 18mph, but I need to get used to being on a bike again…
  • How much do you run now?
  • Great article!! I guess I'm confused about the higher/lower gear....for my bike, 7 is the harder to pedal for hills and 1 is the easiest....unless I'm just reading it wrong. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon and not screw it up. My bike doesn't even show 1-3 on the Front, it's just a + and -, so two options, but I have…
  • It's not about how much you can do, it's about what you can do. Just because you can't do 30 reps with the cast, doesn't mean you won't get the same results.....P90X is an amazing program, and ANY size person can do it!
  • EXACTLY! I don't really think I'd be happier with a more expensive bike at the moment. Talk to me 6 months down the road though LOL
  • I actually plan on using this for an IM 70.3 at some point. I won't be competitive, but that's not my goal for it....I'm going to be called crazy for using THIS bike, but I've also heard it will suit me just fine since I'm not going to be competitive, just completing.
  • Actually now that you mention it....I think the noise my chain makes while peddling is a direct result of bad gear switching by me. My first purchase was the Garmin GSC 10 Cadence/Speed sensor for cadence only until I have to move indoors ,that should be here soon, the next was the mount for my Forerunner 620 so I can see…
  • Beautiful! Thank you so much! Bike training sounds a lot like running training as far as the cardio system goes....based on your information I think the height of the handlebars are correctly, they are just a bit below the seat and I don't feel all that much strain on the wrist. I don't rock my hips either with my legs…
  • Thanks everyone for the info!! I took the first step and bought a bike today LOL, haven't biked since a teen. So I did 30 minutes at about 12.5mph, and then 30 minute run. Saturday I'm going to try and hit the kayak and then again on like Tuesday or something.

  • Thank you! Will look up the videos!! So is 90 minutes doable?? I've got no experience so no real expectations.

  • Thanks! Those are really helpful, especially the engagement of the core! The river is downstream, some rapids (light...very light), and there isn't a whole ton of steering....it's called a river, but really, if the boat flipped I could probably do a hand stand and get out of it lol.

  • I. Hate. Intervals -- 3x6:00 Threshold Pace -- hills -- managed to keep under 9 up steep hills...partially downhill, mostly up....cool down was uphill too. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/776381599
  • I've learned its best to keep it in zone. So slow down if need be. Great read on the PDF! I'm going to extend my mid-week easy runs by 20-30 minutes. Now that track season is over, I think it will be easier on my legs to run those times. I'm about 25 mpm 3 weeks into training. On June 1 I'm switching to a marathon plan to…
  • 4 years injury free here. But I started at 240 lbs. 164 now
  • I should mention today was on VERY tired legs too. I've been non stop running and being on my feet....plus I coach track so I'm always running with the kids and our championships were Tuesday + my normal run....so yeah, this was understandably hard....I forgot to take that into cosideration. I'm so glad tomorrow is just…
  • Went out to attempt a little run at a harder pace than my normal "easy runs". Ended up going for a 10k jog and started at 9:40, 9:24, 9:18, 9:10, then cooling back down at 9:25, and 11:01. It was definitely a harder run than I wanted and the first 2 miles are a lot of up hill so my HR got up there even at a slow pace.…
  • This just made my day
