  • It doesn't burn fat any faster, but as others have said it provides an easy way to have an overall calorie deficit and not feel like you are depriving yourself of foods you like (to some degree), for extended periods of time. The key is when you do eat(Feed days), do not feel like you have to make up for the missed meals…
  • In Keto you are still eating a lot of leafy vegetables so you should be able to get your fiber, but I don't shoot for as high of numbers as you've listed. Remember that most of us doing Keto are looking at "Net Carbs" so you subtract the fiber grams from the carbs of the food item to get the Net Carb count. Kale, spinich,…
  • I have not heard of it. What is the supposed benefits? I have been doing really well on the BP program so not sure I want to try anything else right now, but always curious
  • I have been doing it for a bit, as a fast a few days a week, and doing very well with it. 2 BP coffees on my fast days, and a bunch of water/tea. I then dringk the coffees a few other days as meal replacements and then do LCHF the rest of the time, and am enjoying a nice accelerated weight loss on it.
  • I have been losing weight on LCHF for awhile (about 2 lbs a week) and what I have found is it is truly a balance. Protein is important to maintain muscle and not burn it along with the fat, but if you eat too much protein, your body treats it like carbs and can store it as fat as well. For protein amounts in your own diet,…
  • I don't think it can be done quietly unless you are doing the modifying. I have thought of trying it in my second floor office, but the squat jums, jumping jacks etc are going to make a lot of noise on a second floor.
  • I am finishing up my 3rd week of it, and can do a majority of the exercises unmodified now, with the exception of the Total Body Circuit - Just can't do the pushup variations and spider legs, oblique pushups, and the pilates stuff. On the video, all the poelpe are just moaning and diying at this point. I can't make it…
  • I am finishing up week 2 Alpha. The first week is tough, especially because the moves are a bit hard to get down along with trying to keep up, but now I have probably 75% of them down, and modifying much less than the first week. The Total Body Circuit is by far the hardest one for me (Don't really have much of it down…
  • I wish people would actually do the research before passing judgement. On the contrary, the latest studies are finding Intermittant Fasting to be very healthy and are finding that it is an effective deterrant to Cancer and other diseases (Dementia). In fact, brain activity is increased during fasting. They are also finding…

  • Escellent article. I have been doing the 5:2 fast and I can attest to this. The hardest thing is to not think I need to keep calories low on my nonfast days, but what I am finding is if I eat normal balanced meals on those days and not worry too much about counting calories as long as I stay below mt TDEE, my results are…
  • Absolutely not. After your first few fast days you will not feel as bad.
  • I think what you mean to say is your body needs complex carbs as nobody needs simple carbs like table sugar , white bread etc. The 5:2 diet does not restrict carbs. I have been doing the 5:2 diet and it is by far the least restrictive diet out there for weight loss but again it all adds up to less calories consumed than…
  • I believe that I was already drinking enough beforehand - well over 8 glasses - more like 12 a day. Now I am trying to increase that dramatically - Over the last 4 days with my increase of water I am about 2.8 lbs lost for the week - I have not changed anything else in my diet or routine. One thing I consciously do is…
  • I weigh in every day at same time and use an excellent android app, Libra, that uses the variations to set a trend, since weigh ins can vary up and down by 4 lbs due to what's in your body(Based upon the Hacker's Diet). It has actually been very accurate for me and is great motivator - I like doing the daily thing for the…
  • Fugdcicle - No sugar added, but just one as it has sugar alchols
  • Because low carb limits insulin release which then forces fat loss. As others have said, not all calories are equal. A hundred calories of sugar is different than 100 calories of vegetables. By limiting carb intake to better quality carbs (low glycemic index) you are forcing your metabolism to burn fat as fuel rather than…
  • I am in a quite a bit different situation as you because I have more to lose and you are getting near your goal, but I have learned alot about metabolism and such. I am losing about 2 pounds a week and eating like crazy, and exercising 6 days a week (P90). Doing the SBD Diet and one thing is I don't worry about calories,…
  • SBD does not have you count calories at all in any phase. (I am doing it right now). The thinking is you eat on the plan till you are full. Right now in phase one you are not eating many carbs (no fruit or whole grain) so your calories are all from veggies, good fat and protein so you will fill up quick wit hnot alot of…
  • Mediterranean diet is very similar to the South Beach Diet (I am doing SBD and its going very well. High protein, good fats, with good carbs (slow absorbing) Paleo is another variation - high protein, without whole grains, legumes, or dairy, but seems popular with the Cross fit folks. All of these are somewhat low carb,…
  • I am doing the P90 version which is the precursor to P90X. Good luck with it - It sounds pretty intense from what I have read.
