Yes. If genetics were all that mattered the obesity rate would stay the same, not increase over time. Unless of course only obese people are having children? My whole family is overweight, but I'm not anymore.

bumping anyone?

Cool calculator. I'm small framed, 5'3" with a goal weight of 111-124lbs. I'm currently 121 and a little chubby, trying to get to 116lbs so this works for me.

Thanks! It took me a while to get here. I lost the first 25-30lbs really fast like within 3mths. The last 15lbs or so took another 4mths or so. I'm back at it now too, I'd like to try to get down to 115lbs or so for bathing suit season. The other poster is right about body shape, I'm more hourglass/ruler shaped (33.5 bust,…

Well I think it probably depends on your shape and frame size. I'm just under 5'3" and have a 26inch waist, I weigh 120lbs. Hope that helps!

Sugar may not cause diabetes but there is some interesting new research that indicates excess sugar may mess with hormone levels, liver damage, and may even cause some cancers. That doesn't mean we shouldn't eat any fruit but I do think its smart to be aware of just how much sugar you're eating every day.…

I'm 5'2.75" and I'm around 120lbs, I go between 118-122lbs pretty much weekly :) I started at 165lbs. I'm pretty happy where I am. Maybe not bikini thin but a nice 2-4P without being scrawny. Oh and I eat about 1500-1700 calories a day to maintain depending on how much I exercise and I eat every one of my exercise calories.

I think it depends on where you are in your fitness life. I was probably at my third day at the gym, 50lbs overweight and I got on the eliptical machine and it broke...like went clattering to floor taking my chubby self along with it. The trainer on the floor, a really attractive guy, looked right at me and laughed. No one…

Thanks! I'm looking forward to giving it a try :)

I think some of the new research about sugar is really interesting. I would never cut out fruit completely but I also don't think that it should be eaten 5 times a day. I am trying to eat (and feed my family) more according to the real seasons that fruit and veggies are available. For example we don't eat tomatoes in…

Hey! I started with walking too, its a great way to lose weight if you really stick with it and I've found that its been great for my mental balance as well. I swear by Pandora if you have a smartphone, I love that I can't predict what song is up next but its probably something I'd like. I also listen to free podcasts, my…

Honestly, I'm trying to make peace with my thighs. I'm at my goal weight with a 21 BMI and I'm still unhappy with my thighs. I run, I do cardio, I strength train. I've come to terms with the fact that in order to lose the thighs I'd have to drop more weight. If I drop more weight my collarbone and cheekbones would look a…

Here's a link to the various mercury levels of different fish. http://longevity.about.com/od/lifelongnutrition/a/fish_mercury.htm One thing, salmon is very healthy if you're eating wild salmon, but farmed salmon is pretty gross so I'd personally avoid. Good luck, you're doing great!

I eat at least 1/4 cup of almonds a day. I find they keep me full and as long as you count them its all good.

You're at your goal. Life is short, make room for ice cream :) I often have a chocolate biscotti with my coffee in the morning, its not healthy but it tastes good and I fit it in.

Ok, added pictures!

Hey! I'm just under 5'3" and I've lost 44lbs! In a perfect world I'd get down to 115-117 or so but I'm pretty happy with 121. I'll see if I can figure out how to post photos. ETA Ok, I've put before and after pics in my profile. Good luck!

I've been eating a lot more since starting MFP. One thing that I do too is have a cheat day where I go over my calories and don't work out. And then I follow it with a big workout day where I don't eat all of my calories. And then the rest of the time I eat all of my calories. I eat more now than when I was fat!

I've never been confident that my % is accurate. My scale that supposedly measures says its 16.5% which I definitely don't believe. Going by measurements its around 23-24% which seems closer but I carry most of my weight around my waist so I don't know if I'm skewing the results that way either. I think its hard to measure…

Thanks for sharing! I'm starting to maintain now and its terrifying. I'm so glad to hear from someone who has done it well.

This. I spent years eating low cal, low fat, low carb, avoiding "real food." Getting my fitness and weight together this time has included learning to really cook and eating things that I never would have touched before. Tonight..spaghetti bolognese for dinner...never would have eaten it before. But I enter my recipes and…

Whenever I start to judge someone (and we all do, maybe not about food but about something) I try to remember that I have no idea what is going on in their life. Once when my children were very young I was in line at the grocery store and my 3yr old daughter was having a massive tantrum, screaming, yelling, kicking...the…

I have too. I lost a lot at first by sticking to the 1200...honestly she may want to try a week of that just to jumpstart the process. I increased my calories and lost the last twenty pounds or so A LOT faster than when I was eating less. On a side note...is she drinking a lot of alcohol? I found that eliminating my…

I have uncured bacon (our Whole Foods carries it) several times a week for breakfast (80 cal for 2 pieces). I'm willing to give up a lot but lord save me from a life without bacon :)

Salmon is best but stay far away from farmed salmon, buy wild or stick with tilapia. I live in salmon country and we have a bumper sticker here "Friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon" :)

This really isn't true. Breasts are made of fat, fibrous tissue and glands...depending on your distribution of each determines the size of your breasts. Trust me, I've been a 102lbs and DD cup.
-
Its the freaking small people curse.
-
It depends on how much fat is in them to begin with. I started at 165lbs (I'm 5'2.5") and 34DDD. I'm now about 122lbs and a 30DDD...BUT, my boobs actually look nicer I think, strength training and better posture from exercise and no back fat have helped. But they didn't really shrink at all!
-
Strength training has made me stop feeling fat! I've been very thin before but never in such good shape (at least not in 20yrs or so). Being stronger and having a little muscle has gone a long way to making me feel better about my body.

Well...I believe in sunshine and Vitamin D and make sure I get plenty but having watched three family members die from melanoma...I'm not pressing my luck by tanning. Besides all I can think of when I'm lying there is "what if a light bulb explodes and sets this thing on fire?"
