  • Yup- I can take milk products in tiny moderation but forget ice cream, straight milk, etc. For my cereal, I switched to an almond based milk. The most DELICIOUS milk alternative (IMO) is Almond Breeze's unsweetened vanilla with a touch of honey. It's TO DIE FOR and only 50 calories a cup with less fat and more calcium.
  • Thanks for the replies. It's just such a stressful time and I'm finding myself wanting to stress eat BIG time. I'm constantly hungry all of a sudden now that I'm studying. I don't think people who haven't had to take a life-changing test could understand what effect it has on you physically and psychologically.
  • That's a great tip and a great snack! I used to do sunflower seeds but I ate SOOOOOOOO many, it wasn't a healthy snack any more. Thanks for the tip for those of us who needs food to keep busy!
  • Failure which led to depression and anxiety. I failed the Bar exam several times- the test you need to pass to be a lawyer. It killed me. I *did* let down my family, put myself into financial ruin over student loans I had no way to pay back, and I've watched people around me pass the exam time every time, leaving only…
  • I'm on a 15 day streak which I think is my personal best. Lol! Sometimes though, I think it's enough just to give a damn. That's the whole point. It's not (entirely) about the logging but more about the logic behind it - caring about what you put in your body. Honestly, kudos to you for even caring because that's half the…
  • Agreed! Me too. Now if I know I've been bad on my eating, I may give it a day or two to bounce back so I don't get freaked out when I step on the scale. But generally speaking, it's my motivator and keeps me on track.
  • What resources do you have available to you? Fridge, microwave? I recently read an article for foods to boost brain power while studying and a lot of them don't need any appliances- you can just pack them in the morning and go. These aren't my go-to snacks (I've been trying to divide up a bowl of cereal into two snacks a…
  • If you want in-person support groups, that's fine, but it's not going to help any more food-wise than MFP. In fact, it may present a small problem. WW assigns values to food based on calories, so you're still calorie counting, the same as you are here. But they allow you to eat virtually all veggies and fruits without…
  • It's possible that 1,800 calories is just your maintenance number? You may need to eat less to lose. Just a thought, not sure if I'm right, but perhaps 1,400-1,600 is your magic number to lose?
  • I really needed that one. Not for food but for other matters. Thanks for the post.
  • This is my little saying, a speech I give myself when I'm tempted by food: "I'm not going to have missed this junk food tomorrow, though I may regret it if I eat it today. "
  • With few exceptions, I HATE HATE HATE veggies. Feel free to check out my diary though I've only been back at it for a week and a half. I've been pretty good about my 1,200 calories of food, it's the alcohol that I'm working on (and making progress).
  • Sometimes I'll follow a small meal by something strong in flavor to get the taste out of my mouth- my fav is a Claussen pickle. I can cut a burger in half and not reach for the second half if I eat one of those garlic loaded pickles! That way I get to keep eating (I don't think gum would have the same effect for me…
  • I'm drinking two 4oz glasses of Pinot now and feeling goooood. This is the same person who could kill a six pack and be sober but (regardless of the difference in alcohol content) that's when I was eating 4,000 calories a day. Now I'm down to 1,200. Isn't it great being a cheap date?! Save on money, save on calories. This…
  • Oh, I also love to eat pickles as a snack. A spear is only 5 calories and Claussen's (they're in the refrigerated aisle and heavy on the garlic) are my favorite. Also A&W has a diet vanilla cream soda. YUM! It's like sucking down a rootbeer float.
  • Lol. Yeah, I know. Takes all the fun out of it :) I micro it on a tray that catches the grease underneath and then I press it in paper towel after. Guess it's more like eating jerky at that point. But very very tasty jerky... Mmmmmm :p
  • Someone suggested saving calories for a bowl of cereal- if that's something you can do, Blue Diamond makes an Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk that's only 30 calories per cup or an almond milk with a touch of honey that's only 50 calories. They're lactose free and higher in calcium than real milk :) If you did the 30…
  • I try to eat 100 grams a day and love it when I can surpass that number. Only eating 1,200 calories a day (though I always go over that) can make it kind of tough to pack in numbers much higher than 100.
  • I take my daily vitamins in the morning and I swear they help- one in particular. I think some of it is up for scientific debate BUT, even if it is a placebo effect, I don't mind because for me, it's working and I'm staying off the sweets. I take Wholemega fish oil, a slow release iron, a multivitamin AND, my FAVORITE one…
  • I suppose you can just eat what you know to be good, based off of past tracking and keep a mental tally but BEWARE! Every time I did that, I WAY overindulged, didn't track and fell off the bandwagon immediately. Does this mean you will? Certainly not. But I'm tracking every day, even when I know I'm going to go over…
  • 1,200 is the min any woman should eat. You can eat that if you want and lose and switch it up to 1,350 on other days to perhaps keep the body from getting in a rut. But long term- no. This is way too few calories and you would need to eat more (just guessing 1,600-1,800) to MAINTAIN whatever weight you are currently at or…
  • I just downloaded the app! Thanks- looks interesting!
  • There are a couple of scenarios and I'm not sure how much help it is but... 1) Yes, they can go away. If you just started dieting, there may be an adjustment period where your body has to get used to eating less. However, food choices can have a lot to do with it too. Learn to spend the calories wisely. While 4 candy bars…
  • I absolutely agree about tracking. If I don't track, I don't just slip- I fall off the bandwagon entirely. So even though I know (like tonight, for example) that I'm going to have a few beers and go over, I'm still going to track. You've lost 38 pounds though and that's AMAZING! Be proud and keep up the good work!
  • Well don't the machines have those built into the handles in theory? My machines do buuuuut still not buying it :)
  • I just posted about this today. I went to change my starting weight (because I'm starting over for the millionth time this year) and as I was scrolling, I saw I was 20 pounds lighter on 4/18/13. WOW! I had been tracking and losing and was down TWENTY pounds. But yes, I got lazy, stressed, whatever and stopped tracking and…
  • That drove me nuts too and I couldn't figure it out. I emailed the company and they said for that first day, it automatically gives you calories burnt for the ENTIRE day (regardless of what time you turned it on). Those calories burnt are the ones you will have burned simply by being alive, even if you never moved a muscle…
  • Gotta take into consideration bone structure. I'm 5'5" and currently 185 pounds. When I was 145 pounds, I was a size 10. At 125 pounds, I was a size 6-8 which with my structure, bones were starting to stick out. That said, I think some things have changed with age, having kids, etc and I *think* if I can suffocate down to…
