"white foods' are all things white whihc is white flour - white bread, sugars etc. Whole wheat and grains are OK within reason. For a substitute for sugar use splenda or stevia. I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks everyone for the advice - I appreciate it all!! Even the blunt advice - sometimes you need that, so you quit trying to fool yourself.
