It's a balance. When exercising consider 10 min cardio warmup, strength training (alternating areas), and finish with 30 min cardio. Yet if you plan to use a workout series like Insanity or Asylum, then strength and cardio are built-in.

Check out what is on sale in the produce department, my meal plans are arranged this way. My local farmers market even has a clearance section for items that must be used within 24hrs.

Stick to one scale and record weight at the same time; I record my morning weight and my evening weight. I even moved my scale from the bathroom to next to the refrigerator. While I do not stand on it every time I open the fridge, it is a nice reminder.
