Pork tenderloin is a great source of lean protein.

I typically turn mine off within about a minute of finishing my cardio workout. Since the HRM's calculations don't work with weight training, I never use it for that.

Nashbar always has great prices and these are awesome. I need a second job to support my bike gear expenses. My wife would agree 100%.

You can still be healthy and love food. Just love different food than you love now. ;-) I used to love hamburgers and steak and fries and cake. Now I love chicken and fish and pork and fruits and veggies. I still have a burger or some cake every now and then. I just don't live on it anymore. Find foods you love that are…

Muscle! Muscle! and Muscle! Weight training.

One of the dreaded side affects from starting a new walking or running routine is shin splints. The pain down the outside of your lower leg may be caused by a variety of issues, but the calf muscle tends to get stronger before the muscles on the front of the shin. While stretching the calves is intuitive post run,…

The 1200 calories are net calories. Meaning if you eat 1200 calories and burn 300 calories in exercise, you're only netting 900 calories. 1200 - 300 = 900. Try eating at least some of your exercise calories back. Never a good idea to net under 1200 calories per day. Weight training is the best way to lose fat. Not because…

HRM's do not work with weight training. For all the information you can handle on that subject, Google it. Any reading you get from your HRM during weight training will be grossly overestimated.

I didn't read every response so forgive me if I'm repeating someone else. In Layman's terms, net calories are the calories you ate in a day minus your exercise calories. For example if you ate 1200 calories and burned 500 calories in exercise, your net calories for the day would be 700.

The benefits of weight training come after the gym. The more muscle you build, the more calories your body burns each day. You burn calories in the gym when you're weight training but they are a minimal amount.
-
The amount of calories you burn during weight lifting is so small I don't even count it. This was taken from the Livestrong website: Far too many people are focused on how many calories they burn while they're in the gym, but this is shortsighted. Stop focusing on how many calories you burn in the gym and instead focus on…

The best way to be successful at this is to always step out of your comfort zone. Push yourself to places you wouldn't normally go. That is where success comes from and you already took the first step by posting here.

I did a metric century this month. I have a century planned for July. So far that's all I have planned but I definitely want more. I'll find more for sure. I have set a goal of riding 4000 miles this year so I need as many as I can get.

Diets don't work. The only thing that will help you is a change in attitude which will lead to a change in lifestyle. If you set lofty goals for yourself like losing as much weight as you can before your reunion and then not being happy with the amount you lose, you're setting yourself up for failure. If you want to set…

I eat vegetables. You can eat and eat and eat until you're so bored with eating you just have to stop. Then you log it and find out you ate about 50 calories. Ha! Winner!

Hardest and biggest accomplishment of my life. I smoked for 26 years. I quit cold turkey when I was 40. I knew it was time because every night when I laid down in bed I thought I was going to die. I had to take it not a day at a time but more like an hour at a time. If I was really struggling in the evenings, which was my…

The 1200 calories you're eating daily may not be enough with the amount of exercise you're doing. Try experimenting and maybe bump that up by 100-200 calories per day for a week or 2 and see if that helps. Drink more water too. Stick with it. It's a marathon, not a sprint. ;-) Also make sure you weigh yourself at the same…

In your case, I would just forget about the scale and go by body fat % or even just how you look. Did you take any before pics? If so, take some pics now and compare them side by side. You may be surprised.

I have a $400 Garmin 910XT watch that does that every now and then. My Polar FT40 did the same thing every now and then too. I'm guessing it's normal. Probably happens when the chest strap loses your heart rate or misreads it. Normally doesn't last but a few seconds.

If anyone here is using their HRM for weight training or wearing it all day and entering your calories burned on MFP, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Unless of course you don't eat back any of your exercise calories. Then who cares! ;) HRM's are only designed for cardio.

It's true you don't need to exercise at all to lose weight but your body will burn a combination of muscle and fat for energy. You should weight train in order to keep the muscle you have. You'll lose more weight with weight training. Adding muscle mass increases the amount of calories your body burns when you're doing…
