Cycling and/or Mountain Biking
Has anyone else discovered road cycling and mountain biking as an awesome form of exercise for keeping in shape? I started mountain biking earlier this year and fell in love with it. That led me to road cycling and I love that even more now. I can easily burn 1000 calories in one 20 or 25 mile ride and my legs are rock…

What is your resting heart rate?
I'm just curious. I'm 45 yrs, 6'-2" and about 222 lbs and since I've become a cardio junkie my RHR has come way down. It's about 39 bpm. At first I was worried but the more I read about it, I guess it's a good thing. What's yours?

Urinal etiquette
OK... so I'm standing at the urinal in the restroom at work. I'm the only person in the restroom at this time. There are 3 urinals. I'm at the end. Another guy walks in and stands at the urinal right next to me. WRONG! If there's 2 urinals free, take the one furthest away. It's just weird to me when someone comes and…

Wondering if there are any Lake Norman and or Charlotte area people on here who are into cycling and/or running in the area. Show yourselves.

What's your 5k time?
I've been running almost daily for a while now. Just curious what you "non-professional" (aka non-marathon runners) times are. I'm coming in at around 29 minutes on the treadmill and around 33 minutes outside. My path puts me slightly over 5k at 3.12 miles.

Songs you hated and then loved
What song did you hate when you first heard it and because the radio stations overplay the crap out of music, you ended up loving. I'd like to see Youtube links so we can actually hear the songs. I'm bored with my Pandora stations and need to hear some new stuff. Here's my hated to loved song. One of my favorite songs for…

Question for Garmin 910XT owners
Lately I've been reading about problems with the altimeter going out. Anyone experiencing this problem? If so, how long did you have it before the problem started? Do you swim with it?

2013 National Bike Challenge
Who will be participating in the National Bike Challenge starting in May and running thru September? Last year was the first year for it and it was a huge success. Over 10 million miles ridden by over 30k riders. Should be even bigger this year. http://www.endomondo.com/campaign/national

Looking for cyclists
I'm really loving cycling. I just started this past May and am really loving it. I would like to add other cyclists to my friends list to share tips, stories, or just whatever. I ride a 20 mile course with about 500 feet of ascent during lunch a few days a week and when I started out I was averaging maybe 13 to 15 mph. I'm…

Most calories burned at one time?
According to HRM only. Mine was a century (100 mile) ride that I did back in July of this year. I was only able to finish 75 miles of the ride but I burned 3500 calories in 5 or 6 hours. I think there was 2 reasons I couldn't finish: 1. I was just starting out cycling and didn't have the stamina yet - 2. I didn't take in…

Better off not logging weight lifting calories
Because of the controversy surrounding how many calories you burn when you lift weights and my general lack of knowing this info for certain, I never add calories burned from weight training in my daily exercise log. The truth is, you don't burn a lot of calories during weight training. The benefits come after the work…

Toilet Talk
Do you prefer... 1. Toilet seat warm or cold? 2. Toilet paper under or over? I can NOT handle sitting on a warm toilet seat. It grosses me out! I also have no idea how anyone can prefer the toilet paper "under". It just doesn't make sense to me. Am I strange? Let's find out. What are your preferences?

Average Cycling Speeds
I'm somewhat new to road cycling (as of May of this year) and I'm wondering how I stack up with other cyclists. My times have been getting faster and faster. Right now I'm averaging 20.7 mph on a 20 mile course. Total ascent is 425 feet and total descent is 548 feet. I would consider this a fairly flat course overall. Top…

Calories burned cycling
How many calories do you burn while cycling? I normally average around a 20 mph pace when riding and I weigh around 218 lbs. and usually burn just under 1000 calories per hour. What about you? Edit to add that I'm 6'-2".

There have been several posts where you rate the person above you. I thought it would be interesting to see how you rate yourself. Give your honest opinion of you. I'll give myself a 7.5

Running and Calories burned
I run almost every day during my lunch break. Before I leave my office, I check my HRM for my HR. When I return from my run I note the time but I keep my HRM going until I get back down to my resting HR. I figure any calories I burn during that period where my HR is elevated from the cardio I just did should be accounted…

Aliens... fact or fiction?
This has nothing to do with weight loss but it has everything to do with "Chit-chat, fun, and games". In recent years it seems that a lot more people seem to believe that aliens exist. Whether it be the ancient alien theory or aliens having a part in creating us or anything else. I would like to hear other people's…

I love Twinkies!
I was surprised when I found out they were only 150 calories each. Sure, I know they're still not good for you, but like I said... I love them! Is there anything you've always loved and then later found out it wasn't quite as bad for you as you may have thought?

Salt police, come and get me!
You wouldn't catch me eating a bowl of salt. I don't love salt. I do however love what salt does to food. I was just indulging in some rotisserie chicken (skin removed) and when I took the first bite something was wrong. Not much flavor there. Shoot! I forgot the salt. I don't use a whole lot. It's not required. A little…

If you lost your job...
Just my opinion here. I have seen a lot of people posting on the topic of getting your calories every day. Some people believe it's ok to eat less than the required amount of calories while others believe you have to, at the very least, eat your minimum number. I guess for women that would be 1200 and men around 1600. I…

A revolutionary idea
I have just stumbled upon a brilliant idea for losing weight while eating healthy AND still enjoying all the unhealthy foods you love so much. Feedback on Polar FT40
I currently have a Pro-Form HRM. It's bare-bones and I'm looking to upgrade. I've seen reviews and read feedback on the Polar brand and it seems to be a good choice. After some research I've decided I like the FT40 model. Does anyone have this HRM and if so, do you have any pros and cons you can share?
