Any kind of cardio will work with the HRM. Just not straight weight training.
-
HRM's don't work at all for weight training. They're not made for that. The calculations are based on higher oxygen levels in the blood that only occur with cardio exercise. Using a heart rate monitor when weight lifting would be the same as using it to calculate how many calories you burned when something scared you. Your…

I'm using my GPS with Endomondo to track distance and it shows me ascents and descents during the ride as well. It is completely possible that I climbed 425 feet and descended 548 feet over the 20 mile course. I'm not sure what you're getting at saying the 2 numbers should equal zero. This would only be true if I was…

I return to the same place I start at but I do somewhat of a large circular course. I'm not headed to one location and then turning around and coming back. Thanks for the info on the Strava group. I use Endomondo and Strava both to track my rides.

Same here and after many months of walking every day I got faster and faster and my legs just wanted to run. I couldn't stop it. From there I just started getting more and more into running and now cycling and mountain biking and I love all of it.

You can burn a lot of calories dancing. Get a heart rate monitor and calculate your calories burned while dancing. Weight loss is most effective with diet AND exercise. I would recommend some type of weight training also for best results.

The pain you're feeling is most likely completely normal. Like m_shuman said, when you work out, muscle tears and as it repairs itself this is what builds more muscle. Like the old saying goes... no pain, no gain! Resting your muscles is just as, if not more important than the actual workout. Rest days are when your…

I dress like it's 10 to 20 degrees warmer than it is. If not, I always end up overheating.

Salt and pepper. I think that crap about salt being bad is just that... CRAP! ;) I love me some salt!

OK now I'm the one that didn't want to hear THAT! C'mon!

Don't get me wrong... When I started out I was in a size 42 jeans. I just bought a pair of 36 waist last night and they're a little bit big. Could have probably gone 34 but didn't want them too tight. I'm very happy with my progress and I look 100% better in my opinion.

You might be surprised. I'm 6'-2" and I started out at 289 lbs and I'm now at 218 lbs and I still have a gut. I thought the same thing as you when I started. I thought I would be way too thin if I got under about 220 or 225 but now that I'm here I know I still have work to do.

Probably in the 130-140 range on the flats and in the 160's on climbs. Do you think my calorie burn sounds too high? I have never had a problem with the accuracy of my HR monitor that I know of.

Any veggie roasted in a little bit of olive oil with some course grain kosher salt and black pepper. Delicious!

Using my Polar HR monitor.

19.2 mph pace today and burned 960 calories over 20 miles. If you don't cycle, it's a GREAT way to burn calories, and it's a blast!

Go to "My Home" and then "Goals". Change Goals from there.

I'll be doing a 20 mile ride at lunch today. Mostly flat but a few good climbs.
-
Bravo! Very happy for you.

I ran my first "official" 5k the weekend before Thanksgiving and had a PR or 27:09. That was 2:44 lower than my previous PR. I was shocked that I did it in that time. I attributed the faster time to the competition around me, pushing me. I typically run alone and have no competition. It makes a big difference when you're…

Cardio is like weightlifting for your heart and lungs. ;) If you want to kick up your calorie burning abilities, you're better off building muscle than doing cardio. That being said, I'm a cardio junkie because I love cycling and running. At one point I only lifted but I got injured a few months ago and have been very…

I just bought a trainer 2 days ago. I bought the CycleOps Pro. I've only used it once so far but it feels pretty good. I agree about getting a trainer tire. They will eat your tires up.

We've all heard of BMR or Basal Metobolic Rate. It's the amount of calories your body burns doing nothing. Basically it's what your body needs to run itself on a daily basis. It takes more calories to feed muscle than it does to feed fat. Therefore, the more muscle you have on your body, the more calories your body…

I have an hour for lunch as well. I run or cycle every day. Not bad now that it's cooler outside but there are showers here for the warmer months. We also have a running trail. The company I work for is big and is big into employees being active. Once you start working, ask around to see if there are others that run or…

Ya'll be nice! This was a painful season.

Unfortunately, he's the only one who can decide he wants to be more active. If you push too hard you'll just create animosity between the 2 of you.

Most pizza starts at around 250 calories or more per slice and goes up from there. Counting calories is all about estimating. I would say at the end of the day you're most likely going to end up at plus or minus 250 calories. Maybe less depending on how accurate you track. The amount of calories and fat you are getting rid…
