  • Whoever assemble the wheelset, typically the wheel builder but not necessarily always. Back in the days, the first thing I normally do after a new bike/wheelset is to replace the rim tape with Velox and dump the oem tire. After a ~20 year hiatus, I skipped the rim tape for the next 5 applications. The cover on oem stuff…
  • Second on TrainerRoad but on RGT Cycling rather than Z. Structured training on week days and simulated courses (magic road) weekend. I averaged 7 hours per week 2021 and now ramping it up to 12 hours average per week to get ready for CA Triple Crown attempt. Hope to start outdoors rides in spring. DW had me locked up…
  • Wahoo. Your Garmin is not going to tell the HRM to eat batteries or substitute bad data just for kicks. Try replacing the strap. Any generic should work. FWIW, I need to replace the strap every two years or so.
  • Indoor trainer. As much as I like riding outdoors, the combination of teleworking, heat, & smoke makes riding indoors a necessity during the weekdays as well as the weekends now. It's been a pain trying to get a weekday outdoor ride with DW as a coworker.
  • This might be more helpful, https://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/bikefit/2011/05/seat-set-back-for-road-bikes/. The video on cleat positioning is ok but KOPS, I stopped listening. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/kops.html https://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/bikefit/2011/04/power-to-the-pedal-cleat-position/
  • The saddle looks like it's titled nose down with a lot of setback, the bars looks tilted up, and there's not much of a vertical offset between saddle and bar. That's atypical setup. Do you have flexibility issues? Was this fit as a tri or TT setup? Transfer from tri or TT setup to road? Did the fitter fit you to this and…
  • "Bonk" is caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles and is unlikely to occur in an hour, but I understand what you guys are gong through. You need to continue to press on at low glycogen stores before the body shuts down and say no more. The liver can store roughly 100–120 grams of glycogen and in…
  • If you convert it into a text file, like tcx, you can comb through it by hand. For simple fix, try www.fitfiletools.com. For more hands on manipulation, I use Golden Cheetah. WKO will do it but not very user friendly (and painfully slow if you are not on apple).
  • I'm 5'8" with short legs and ride bikes with a 530-535mm effective top tube. Every bike I brought came with a 90mm and I been changing it out with 110mm. Got 3 sitting in the garage, we should make an exchange, lol. I'm actually in the middle of a build. Went with open mold, ultra light frame. Trying out Sensah Cabon 11…
  • Enjoyment, GPS cycling computer (Garmin Edge 530) to avoiding getting lost and smart trainer (Elite Drivo) to add some spice to my indoor workouts.
  • A solution looking for a problem? Suitable for cyclocross and downhill racing but cannot see it for regular road use.

  • Never thought pinch flat was a thing on the road. I have punch through vertical lips but no flats. The last big one was a vertical cut in the asphalt over 3 inches deep at a culvert and road interface repair while I was descending at over 40 mph but probably hit at over 20 mph as I slammed on the brakes less than two-three…
  • Wow, 110 psi. I haven't run 23 since my collegiate racing days, 30 plus years ago. Went even narrower at 20s but switched to 28s the third year of racing. Never had my tire above 100 psi. With the 28s, most of the time it's at 70-90 psi (depending on how lazy I get). Only my tubs are inflated to over 100 psi but they are a…
  • The last flat I got was three to four years ago. Changing it takes like 5-10 minutes (w/o CO2) and most can be done without tools (some steel bead and rim combo can be a pain when the tire is new). I average one per year so far (not including the current shut down). Last I check the tires cost less and last longer. I…

  • Chamois cream can be a crutch. I use it a few time, a 125 mile ride with 14,000 ft of elevation gain, a relatively flat double century, and when I had pressure sores. I normally don't use it. Assuming your fit is dialed and you're wearing proper clothing, it's just time in saddle. It normally take me a week or two before I…
  • It's the best platform I have used. The feel is more realistic and you can ride your own routes. You can ride for free but I elected for the premium so I can ride my own routes at the time of my choosing. It's probably the best application out there for e-racing. Set up is more challenging but community on FB is very…

  • I switched to merino wool tops last year, base layer and long sleeve jersey. As a heavy sweater, I find nothing really keeps me warm once I'm drenched. It's not an exaggeration or a matter of overdressing. Wool is only thing that keeps me warm while wet. The synthetic stuff is useless once it's wet especially when the…
  • Discord for voice & text or text via the app itself. Most of time it's full of huffing and puffing. Lots of canned phases for text by ride lead, lots of complaining about flyers. I only did one century group ride that was just under five hours on Zwift. There wasn't that much conversation in that ride or most of my group…
  • No have not tried that. I use TrainerRoad, their outdoor workouts with my Garmin riding over my own route with an artificial 2% grade (with slightly undulation up to +0.3% over 25.4 miles) for weekday intervals and real courses for weekend & recovery/endurance rides. With Zwift I normally let TR run my trainer (mostly…
  • I been a zwift member for 4 years and recently switched to RGT cycling. Yes, you do need a smart trainer to get most out of it. A decent GPU is also must (so no ATV, tablet, or phone except as companion). The entertainment is the replication of real road feel (primary) and the interaction with other users (or bots). I…
