Haven't seen any "controllable" workout session that is like a spin class. The two target very different clientele. Try YouTube for spin class. Personally, I prefer RGT Cycling over Zwift. The feel is more realistic and I can ride on my own routes. More importantly, there's nothing dumbing down the effort with dinosaurs…

Ok, had the feeling it was just the 20 minutes TT. The 5 minute VO2 Max test is actually a critical part of the FTP test and without it, the estimate is on the high side. I believe there's only one research recently with "trained" subjects that indicate it doesn't matter but there's no other opposing studies. Hunter's and…

Sounds pretty close to the original Hunter Allen's VO2 Max and 20 minutes TT, aka FTP test. Hunter's warmup is a bit more varied with 3x1 minute fast cadence bursts. The 5 minutes is the requisite VO2 Max test, all out, to expend one's anaerobic capacity. Z6 is odd but ok if you are average and expecting an increase. Again…

As you work on improving your fitness, why not just add more gears by decreasing the trainer difficulty? Low cadence work has it's place but it's not something I will do daily. Around 15-30 minutes total, not sustained, is what I shoot for weekly during my ad hoc weekend ride. Be careful of Zwift training plans, they are…

Still mulling over whether or not to do this challenge, https://planetultra.com/everesting-challenge/. It'll be mostly to help keep the outfit afloat during these trying times. I know I'll never be able to do an actual Everest and hate to have the jersey sitting in the closet collecting dust. Date: Duration / Distance /…

My activities are pushed from Garmin Connect to MFP. Never had much luck with Strava in the 5 or so years pushing to other apps. It's always breaking and needs to be reconnected. I think over the same time I had to reconnect GC a handful of times. Strava just seems not wanting to share but consume.

I used ipbike with Sony Xperia Active for ~3 years before switching to Garmin due to battery life (only ~3.5 hours). I epoxy a SRAM Garmin adapter (after modifications) to the back of the phone. There's self adhesive mount available (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076P316M8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_h-T6EbPF377FV). The app…

What kind of trainer? Direct drive or wheel on? Most wheel on trainer requires a raiser to offset the elevated rear wheel needed to clear the floor. When was your last fit? Anything changed since like weight loss or gain, fitness improvement or decline, weekly duration, etc? A year or two between fit can be a long time and…

If the interval block is coded as an erg segment, you can turn the block into simulation mode by turning off "erg" in the game setting. The % increment, % of FTP in erg, will become set resistance level. How well that "level" correspond to a slope depends on your trainer and coder at Zwift. On my Elite Drivo, the…

Done, but in June and 7 miles short.

Thought that was only applicable to mid-town (recent news coverage re ordinance review/collision death) and was likewise reinforced/told by CHP Capital Section. Working downtown, I find it very annoying but less so than riding against the direction of travel. Both are happening more frequently after the launch of the bike…

2.5+ hours. I normally hold off threshold and higher workouts until I can hit 2.5-3 hours at tempo with only water for the slow twitch (typically by mid April). Zones based on functional threshold power.

Sorry, all studies thus far say otherwise. Cycling helps with running but running is a detriment for cycling. The benefit of weight lifting is also questionable unless you're competing track or a stick figure pro rider. They are good for overall health but does nothing to improve one's fitness for riding. There's nothing…

You need to convert the work done, kj to kcal. Since the recording frequency is one second, just sum the recorded wattage produced during the entire workout (1 joule = 1 watt/sec). Divide that by 1000 to convert to kj. Divide that by 4.184 to convert it to kcal. Finally, divide the result by your efficiency factor…

Finish a Double Century bicycle ride in mid May
-
Lol, just updated my 200 mile training plan for May next year and it's not pretty. First century in three weeks. Would have been do able but I lost nine weeks of prep time, mid Oct until this week, due to an accident. Be a miracle to finish it the May double but the plans to tackle the California Triple Crown is definitely…

Specs indicates it broadcast HR over Ant+. What's running Map My Run? Smart phones, older Samsung and Sony has build-in Ant+ support. You could get a dongle to work with any recent android devices (3.1 and later) but might be out of luck with iOS. (Not an apple fan but seeing all kinds of posts, re Zwift, that dongle…

Switch from clip to clipless back in 1986. Used Look (86), Time (88), Shimano SPD (97), and SPD-SL(16). Shimano SPD is the easiest to get in and out and SPD-SL tied with Time as the hardest to release, especially when tired. Practice and once you get the knack of getting in and out, it becomes second nature. I think it…

Not sure if this applies but for virtual rides, indoor cycling, I had to change it to an activity that matches up to MFP (cycling) using Garmin Connect (normally via web interface but app also works), then use my phone app to force it to sync. In the phone Garmin app, I bring up MFP app from Health Stats/Calories In/Out.…
