Safest bet: Don't have guns around.

As usual when I have a question, this community reflects my feelings about things -- ALL of them, even the contradictory impulses! I also gratify myself when things are going well, and redouble efforts (but with a slightly different attitude) when the scale reports bad news...

Wow.... this is really interesting. The RWNJ talking points sound even nuttier in a venue normally outside the political context, don't they? Like another poster I hope the thread is not taken down. It's probably a better reflection of what people really think of those extreme views than you'll get a chance to see…

You must be so proud. Congrats. I was struck my your mention of the wedding picture as the tipping point. Mine too, at my son's wedding a little over a year ago. I know two other people IRL for whom that was Decision Time. I wonder how many others have that "special picture" in their weight-loss history.

Snowbird -- wow, are you thinking now you may go for the higher goal you were originally thinking about? Easier than you thought? Still plugging away at my 4 miles a day (extra 4 mi). I'm at 38 miles for the month to date, but would like to get the average speed up to more like 3.7 mph to give myself a cushion so the…

checking in. almost a week in adn I've done 22.9 miles toward my 125-mile goal. have been away for the holiday so I'll have some making up to do.

My imaginary trek: http://goo.gl/maps/ou6J Empire State building, up the Hudson, almost to Albany -- or bust, by August 1.

OK, so if this is freeform, I'll just make up my own reporting method as well as the type of personal goal. My goal is 125 miles for the month (125/31=4.03 miles per day walking every day), at an average speed of 3.5 mph. End of day 2 totals: 11.6 miles, 3.7 mph, 3:23, 40% "running" (which isn' t all real running, just a…

Hi, I've never joined a challenge here but this sounds like a good one to try. I've been slacking off on distance and speed in the last couple of months, so my personal goal is to get back to 125 miles for the month at an average speed of 3.5 MPH. (I have to run a little of that to get to that average.) I use the Footsteps…

True, it is the sort of thing you hear in bull**** management theory -- all that lofty talk that's often just talk.
-
I think it would have that effect on me, if I didn't know that you get little rewards all along the way -- not just in a heap at the end!

Looks like I must have been wearing my clothes way way loose or something. I was deep into Plus sizes at 195. 3x at my top (213lbs) last June, pant size 12-14 now at 147. I'm 5' 5.5".

Thanks again to almost everybody. I haven't weighed in yet, that's Saturday, but I think I am back on track. All in all, I have a feeling I just had slipped into autopilot after six months, and needed to become more mindful about it, recommit. Confessing publicly by posting helped that process.

I use it in my coffee. An indulgence that I hope you'll forgive. So sorry.

Very scary.

Oh man. So much to consider now. Maybe I'd best try one thing at a time (you know, in the scientific method sense). Anyway can't say how much I appreciate the informed input. I don't walk with a heartrate monitor but do use a pedometer app on my phone. The actually MPH usually averages more like 3.2, a little faster than…

OK. I've made my diary public. Do most of you choose that setting -- or set to friends only?
-
Really appreciate all the encouragement, everyone. It helps, and I'll try some of these suggestions. Shoot -- I'll try them all (except the contradictory ones (eat more, eat less). Will also figure out how to make my diary public. Thanks again.

Thanks, jtorg. Sounds like good advice. I walk about 70-80 minutes a day, but may need to step up the intensity. Also do lower body (abs and legs) with no weights, and upper body with light hand weights -- each type on alternating days.

I see I'm not the only geek around here. Yay for us. Love tam120 keeping his(hers?) on an always-accessible thumb drive. Now that's funny.

Quite a few of the comments in this thread mention what you used to weigh. Are any of you like me, heavy for years, but not always heavy? (I'm 57 years old and 5' 5.5"). I try to remember what it felt like to weigh 125, but it was such a long time ago it's difficult. Even though I was an adult and had a child, it seems…

Hi. I'm new to the forums, MFP user since August. Recording everything has been a lifesaver for me because I WILL delude myself if I don't mark it down! Here's my current fave. It's entirely made up. It's something like potato salad, except it's made with cucumbers instead of potatoes. I cut a whole peeled cuke into cubes…
