I’ve been thinking a lot about what habit I want to work on this month. It’s tricky. I have my first professional conference that I am attending since the pandemic in mid September. Habits are so rooted to our environment, that when the environment shifts as it does when we’re not home, it’s hard to build the habit. But…

I love @jamcnewman’s #WalkingTowardFall goal too! September is a beautiful month to be walking outdoors and since next month is Walktober, why not get a jump on outdoor walking now? We will be doing something for Walktober, still TBD. Unfortunately, I can’t coordinate another weekly virtual walk as we did through the UK…

Great September goals everyone. And a special welcome to new member @kjemudder and welcome back to @77tes. As you all know, I ebb and flow as to how participatory I am in our group. I would like to be here every day, but with my work commitments, taking care of my elderly parents, and volunteer work that isn’t possible.…

I have nothing to add to @jamcnewman’s post and Julie thank you for expressing it so beautifully! We all love you, @MadisonMolly2017 and I’m delighted to hear you’ll be taking a needed vacation. Sometimes a break from our home where the stress lives and our emotions get cued by our physical environment is just the reset we…

@MadisonMolly2017, Maddie, this makes me SO HAPPY! It has also been a game changer for me. And as you said, it’s so much fun that you forget that you’re exercising. What app(s) are you using? I use Supernatural VR and I love it. It is subscription based, but I found it very worthwhile. I use it almost every day and there…

@jamcnewman, I also love your “I am statement” I’ll start adding that to our monthly challenges starting in September. As Maddie mentioned, it really is a powerful tool for changing our habits and behavior. I see myself as a walker, so naturally I walk every day. It’s who I am. But the extension is even more powerful. Want…

A very warm welcome to new member @Lmercado441! Please let us know what your first goal is and the habit will be working on. We have a new discussion thread each month and I’ll have September’s thread up no later than Sept 1st.

Great goals for August, @PackerFanInGB and @jamcnewman!

@BMcC9, your self identifying as a sewist cracks me up, but it’s also a great concept. How we see ourselves shapes what we do and the habits we have. I have always seen myself as a walker and therefore I walk. For those who haven’t seen it, this is a great post on building identity based habits:…

Great job, @snowshoe072! The Virginia climate is much hotter than I’m used to, making walking outdoors much warmer than I’d like. I almost skipped a couple of outdoor walks, but decided my “I can do hard things” muscle needs regular flexing. Sounds like you made the same choice!
-
@opalle, I love this! Changing just one thing at a time increases the likelihood that you will be successful. The more things that we try to change at once, the less likely we are that anything will stick. You will see a lot of goals listed by our members for August. But these are almost always goals they’ve been working…

@donna25trinity, I like all of your goals for August, but especially this one: Hve things to look forward after work and wen im stressed ie Sing, tv show, dance, yoga, nails, walk with bub, park, call friend💖 It’s so important to have something in place to reduce stress. Something we enjoy and look forward to. Otherwise,…

What a wonderful post, Maddie! So happy and proud of you! #HealthFirst

Hi Everyone, I think many of you subscribe to James Clear’s weekly newsletter already and thus will have seen this gem. But if haven’t seen it, this really resonates with me: “Keeping the habit alive is a powerful act. It's easier to stay in shape than to get in shape. It's easier to keep a house clean than to get it…

I'm headed down to Virginia to see my family and I'm leaving tomorrow. My August focus will be improving my balance. But I'm going to wait until August 15 when I have my first physical therapy session to scope out what actions/plan I want to pursue this month. Until then, I want to focus on my family and supporting my…

I’ve been doing my stretches and it does seem to help. I just had my annual physical and my doctor wants me to see a physical therapist to help me improve my balance. I completely agree. My balance is terrible and it’s not something I can correct on my own (too severe). My first PT appointment in August 15. I will post the…

Hi Everyone! I really enjoy your updates! @jamcnewman, I’m sorry to hear about your dog and I know how disruptive a strict medication schedule can be. But you clearly are prioritizing your sleep, and when the medication schedule eases up, sleep can again be your focus. @donna25trinity, I really like your daily focus/habit…

Congratulations to everyone who is sticking with their habits and implementing their plans. Perfection isn’t required, but it does need regular tending. I am sticking with my goal of stretching more. I do feel better. Most of my weekend “free” time has been zapped by an intro graphics design course I’m taking through…

I can relate, @enlightenme3! My house also needs a deep cleaning. Windows need cleaning as do carpets. Maybe I should pretend we are having company in the next few weeks.

@TwistedSassette, great job prioritizing portion control! It was very eye opening to me how different my perceptions of portion sizes were from what was recommended. No wonder I was overweight. I was eating too much. Even now and 10 years later, I get out the food scale and measure high calorie items. What I think is a…

I’ve been thinking a lot about my July focus. What I really need is more regular stretching before I work out. I tend to give it the short end and try to save a few minutes. But I also know how much better I feel after a good stretch! I want to make this easy for me because that way it’s more likely to stick. Since I’m a…

These are great goals for July and we are glad you’ve joined our group, @bigbossallie!

Two excellent goals, @joaniecard and welcome to our group! Good to keep it simple especially at first.

quote="jamcnewman;c-46885832"]@donna25trinity You have terrific insights about yourself and what triggers you — and that is three quarters of the battle won. ♥️ You have been doing GREAT with your habits all month and a few days is but a blip. Work drama is the worst — is there someone there that you can talk to in order…

Yes, welcome to our group, @beabria! We are glad you are here!

Great focus for June, @TerriRichardson112! Creativity isn’t just fun…it’s good for the brain. I haven’t crocheted since college, but you have me thinking! I would love to see a photo of your project once you’re done.

Well done, @enlightenme3! You are tracking everyday even if it’s a P. One question. Any insight into why some actions have more Ps than others? I thought perhaps somethings didn’t need to be done everyday. Or maybe they are less motivating to you? Or something else? Just curious.
-
Yay! I’m so glad to hear that @jamcnewman! I hope you love it as much as @MadisonMolly2017 and I do!
-
Very interesting. Drinking more water has lots of upsides!

Maddie, this makes me SO HAPPY!!! It’s helped me as well. Amazing how much better we feel when we are getting sleep! I too love the softness and I also do what you do…find the right size and then just slip it over my head. Funny…it’s such a simple thing but it has such a big impact. I just always accepted that I wouldn’t…
