  • This is a problem because then you are extending your back too far and ARE at risk for injury. Do you have anything you can prop the weights up on? I actually use old and old aerobic step on one side and part of my fanny lifter from the FIRM (yes i just admitted to that) on the other. Starting from the proper height will…
  • This suprises me. Frankly, I thought proper deadlift form was quite easy to learn (from a book and/or watching online videos) and I don't worry at all about hurting myself deadlifting. Now squats, on the other hand . . . . But if this bothers you and you are worried, then don't do deadlifts. They are great for you, but in…
  • Of course you can hang out with us! Welcome. I avoided starting strength because of the power cleans too. But I really like Stronglifts and hope you do too!
  • @jay: WOW on the legs. @all: Wish I could join you on the back pics. But I'm a) incompetent with a phone and b) at work. Maybe tomorrow.
  • I increased 5 pounds on each lift for about the first month. Since then, especially on upper-body lifts, I am going up only in 2 pound increments. I think that is fairly common for women.
  • I highly recommend you get and read Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. Not to follow the program (although it is good too) but because it has amazing descriptions and photos of the proper form for doing all the excercises. It made a huge difference to me because I was terrified I was going to hurt myself doing something…
  • Oh, and also ladies. I despise pain, but I've had 3 kids. EPIDURAL.
  • This thread moves fast! Someone asked about a replacement for rows. I think the newest version of Stronglifts actually recommends inverted rows. I tried those and can't even do body weight, so went back to pendlays. And I agree that the key with those is getting the plates higher off the floor. I used two very low steps to…
  • It takes me between 70 and 80 mins. I'm going to give it one more month and then drop to 3 x 5, as I get bored when it takes that long.
  • Nice work Darwin! Those are awesome numbers.
  • Holy yikes you are moving some serious weight for such a a little thing! I'm incredibly envious of your squats. Any tips on what makes you so badass in that department? I've been wondering about supplements too. I take a multi-vitamin and calcium (I'm months away from 40 and worrying about my bones). I also take magnesium…
  • I bought my resistance bands online at rubberbanditz.com. The site has a chart that tells you what size of band you need based on how much you weigh and how many pullups you can currently do. I spent about $40, and I just loop the band over my powerrack when I need it. I'd say it was well worth the money! By the way, I'm…
  • First, that is an impressive amount of weight and you look incredible. My two cents. Have you read Starting Strength? Mark Rippetoe completely diagrams a proper squat and I found it incredibly helpful to read. I learned that I was gripping the bar wrong, that my feet were not wide enough, that my feet were not at a 30…
  • Oh I hope your back feels better! You know what's weird is that the first time I tried to pull 155, I felt a little twinge in my lower back after 3 reps. I immediately stopped, it hurt a little that night, and by the next morning it was fine. I hope you heal as quickly! And silly girl, 65 for OHP is awesome! I finally hit…
  • Welcome to the group! I lurked here for a long time, but recently started participating more. You will find that EVERYONE is SO NICE and really supportive.
  • Did workout B today, and deadlifted 155. Yeah, I'm kinda awesome like that. My chinup resistance bands finally came so I was able to also do 3 sets of 5 reps with them. Weak, but its more than the 0 I did last week. But afterwards I let a friend drag me to Zumba. It was fun, but I think that after a badass workout is going…
  • You ladies are ON FIRE today. I haven't necessary noticed an increase in "circuit training" stamina, but I do feel a lot less jiggly and therefore enjoy it more. And on a related note, while we are sharing TMI, hubby absolutely cannot keep his eyes (and hands) off my "squat butt." I put a thong on and that man is…
  • I do that after workout A. At least I think it is A. Its squats, bench, rows. The accessory lifts that accompany that workout (according to the newest Stronglifts pdf) are pushups and reverse crunches.
  • Thank you Tameko. Especially the part about it's going to take longer than 90 days. I think I needed that slap in the face.
  • I don't care how much I weigh. I care how much fat I have. And I'm curious too---is heaving lifting and stronglifts really making a big difference for anyone? I'm 8 weeks in and based on pictures, there is NO difference in my body. I'm inclined to say, OP, that you are not being realistic, and neither am I. Sorry--very…
  • Those window treatments are fabulous!
  • Thank you! I'm 6 weeks into Stronglifts and not loving the results---but I will stick with it and upgrade my engine.
  • To the OP: I've seen you post before and you seem to have a lot of knowledge. If you don't mine me asking, in your opinion, If my goal is to look good in a swimsuit (and assuming a good diet) is something like Stronglifts more effective than a circuit-based program like ChaLean Extreme or Rushfit? I'm not trying to be…
  • Thank you for a little Nathan. That is all.
  • No trainer here. I watched a ton of videos online (including Medhi) and bought the book Starting Strength. I was afraid a trainer would have no idea what he/she was doing, and I prefer to workout at home.
  • Hey ladies, I feel the need to post today! I've never posted in the check-n-chat, but I have posted on a few other Stronglifts topics, including one earlier this week where I whined about being tired and not making huge gains and threatened to give up Stronglifts. But, largely because of all of you, I've decided to stick…
  • Aw, thanks.
  • I am 6 weeks in (workout 21 is tonight) and I'm having doubts as well. I have not yet had any specific pain, but the weights are getting heavier (squat tonight is 115) and as they do I'm mentally freaking out about the risk of injury, and wondering to myself if this is really worth it. I also am really tired the day after…
  • [Hangs head.] Ok. I will re-apply at the end of May. ;)
