  • I'm a fan of this rule so long as the man is informed that this is the rule. It's so hard trying to remember all the unexpressed laws.
  • I wish there were a 'standing ovation' button because I would press it on your post. THAT, my friends, is love.
  • Guessing other people's weight is a carnival trick that is very often wrong (that's why they have a +-10 range to guess before the guesser loses). Truth is, we own a scale, BMI chart, a mirror and access to a family doctor, so from a medical perspective, I'm not sure where "You should way 134.5" from anyone else fits into…
  • I agree this is at the other end of the extreme spectrum.
  • I agree I wouldn't let opinion override good judgement. If you know that you know, then surely stand firm and defend it. There is a difference also between being controlling and giving an opinion. Sometimes my opinions are misinterpreted as demands even though I use the words, "I think...", "maybe...", "...just my…
  • I disagree and find this very judgemental. Many wives ask for their husband's opinion and a man should be applauded if he's being honest. If he's demanding or getting angry at your weight management, okay, to that I see a problem, but I wouldn't kick a spouse to the curb because of their preferences, that's just stupid.…
  • I guess what I'm wondering is whether I should just say 'forget this' and go full on exercising again or try to do as little as possible in the hope that it gets better. I'm also wondering if it's some kind of tendonitis, pinched nerve or other problem that's not easily seen by medical exams.
  • I do walk these days, not a big fan of swimming though. I'm not meaning soreness but severe pain over several months. I used to have weights at home but after causing myself problems with them I gave them up. When I messed up my leg, the doctor shrugged and gave me anti-inflammatories (which I did not take). I did do Kung…
  • "New chemical sweeteners (like Splenda) and the sweetener blends (aspartame, sucralose and acesulfame K blended together in one product) may be causing users to show signs of weight gain, disruption of sleep patterns, sexual dysfunction, increases in cancer, MS, Lupus, diabetes, and a list of epidemic degenerative…
  • a tie between Mulan and Aladdin.
  • I have a little black vest, does rhyming count? It's not 'little' per say but had a tough time buttoning it when I got it and now it is a little loose.
  • Perhaps seeking out a hobby that requires a lot of time and focus such as reading, writing, drawing, etc? I eat less at work because I'm just too busy to think about food. At home, I'm a video gamer. When I start online on a game, I easily forget about things like eating. TV is too passive, I'd probably turn to eating if I…
  • A lot of good advice on this and other posts: 1.) Be prepared - Bring a nutrigrain bar, fruit or raw veggies for cravings. Being full on these are always better than mystery calories. 2.) Be aware of the regret from bad choices before making them, it'll help keep your discipline 3.) Make wise choices if you MUST eat…
  • Pasta at Italian restaurants...they give you like 6 cups! I wasn't fooled this time, I have enough for the next few days.
  • Once a week, Monday night. That's when the truth of the weekend is best seen because weekends are the most brutal for me. It encourages me on Friday night knowing my day of reckoning is a mere three days away.
  • I put cheese in the 'dessert' category as much as I can. My top favourite is aged gouda (not smoked, not regular, not any other way but aged) from Holland. Hard, salty, sweet, I cannot compare it to anything else. Rembrandt brand makes an import that I can sometimes get at the local grocery store (…
  • Well said and would like to highlight, brew is pretty high as well. In my case I'd paired it with a gyro which was a combo nightmare. If I had either the gyro OR the 7 wings, I would've been fine, but together it put me way over my daily calorie limit.
  • Very true, soda (and other high fructose drinks like off-the-shelf tea) was a real calorie bomb for me. I've decided not to drink calories, except in a half cup of coffee or tea with teaspoons of sugar I can control by adding myself.
  • I didn't expect them to be 0 calorie, but was figuring about 300 for 7, not twice that amount.
  • I've been keeping an eye on rice too. It sounded healthy, but...surprise!
  • Indian food is awesome! That being said, I try to shy away from the rice. It's a bunch of calories that has little flavour. 1 cup = 242 calories. I'd rather have the sauce at a half cup for 110 calories. Sources: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-rice-white-medium-grain-cooked-i20051…
  • Another good point, I've been very wary of noodles these days too. Also on my warning list are french fries and breads (especially buns because it's easy to forget I've eaten them since I'm focused on the meat).
  • Homemade is a really great idea! I could use breast meat and control the calories in the sauce. This should satisfy the football craving as well as give me another dish to work on perfecting. Much appreciated all
  • Join the "Failed Miserably During the Weekend Club". I've been trying to drop my membership for some time now, but have 'skipped a few meetings' by still eating what I want, just at reduced portions after typing it into the food diary before I eat it. There's a My Fitness Pal mobile app. that helps too. Found out the…
  • I'd focus more on calories than carbs by using the Food Diary here. I think stopping craving food altogether may be a bad thing, all people need to eat, it's just that we don't need to eat as much as we may think/feel we do. Cutting carbs entirely tends to make a person feel more hungry, but I do think overall many carbs…
  • Pray, train, study, play. Just as our body needs a healthy diet, our minds do to. Maybe taking 15 minutes to chill with relaxing music and a cup of tea? Make everything else stop for a moment and wait for you, perhaps that will give you an edge on control. Just some thoughts. Your Fitness Pal meter says you've got some…
  • Yes, vinegar is a good natural anti-fungal and antibiotic because of its acidity from the mouth to the stomach, but what happens is when it hits the stomach, you may get some 'splashing up' the esophagus which causes heartburn and acid reflux. The stomach is specially lined to handle that kind of acid, but the…
  • Agreeing with anastasiaBH, I was stuck around this weight myself, but staying true to the food diary helped me kick through.
  • Echoing ChantalGG, as a Biochemist I've never heard of fighting acid with acid. If there was some other chemical property to the vinegar then I'd understand, but if acid is the problem, then neutrals and bases would be the offsets from a mechanistic standpoint. "Include more high-alkaline foods in your diet to balance your…
  • On this topic, I'd like to quote one of my favourite dialogues found in the movie "Ratatouille" between Chef Luigi and the food critic Anton Ego: Linguini: And you're thin for someone who likes food. *crowd gasps* Anton Ego: I don't LIKE food. I LOVE it. If I don't love it, I don't SWALLOW. Rather than encouraging…
