  • I'm home with Covid now - started off with my son last Thursday, but by Sat/Sun, I was pretty certain I was coming down with it...it didn't show on a RAT until Monday. I am actually feeling somewhat better already, but have a nasty cough, which is then affecting sleep. My son is basically back to normal, but he can't…
  • I am still LMOD-ing here (or LM+ these days), and loving it. Most weekdays I do something. In July last year, I bought myself a spin bike too, so now I head out to my garage a few days a week for that - the rest of the workouts are just in my living room. It makes me laugh - back when I went to a physical gym, I just could…
  • Hang in there! I had a big bump on the scale last week...that came first, and then I spent the weekend in bed with a migraine and body aches! Weird, but I am assuming I had some inflammation happening as part of being unwell. Now (a week later) I am nearly back to where I was on the scale, and when I look back over a…
  • My fitness watch tells me my VO2 max is now "excellent" I don't think it's the ultimate fitness device or necessarily super-accurate, but my fitness has improved, and it was nice to have some kind of evidence of it.
  • Going forward, I may work from home a little more often (especially with fuel prices going crazy currently). I will definitely keep working out at home - I was surprised how much I love it. I will keep doing click and collect for my groceries (or sometimes delivery like this week as we are isolating with DD testing…
  • I am not big on strict calorie counting - I check into MFP regularly, but more as a way to keep my focus than to actually track everything. I go by the idea that my body tracks everything far more accurately than I ever will, and it's doesn't mis-judge quantities or forget or have cheat days. I know that if I am not losing…
  • So we're a bit behind a lot of the world here in New Zealand, with Omicron surging now. Yesterday we ticked over 100,000 cases since the pandemic began, with more than 80% of those being currently active cases. The latest modelling I heard suggested we'll be looking at peaking around mid March. I've been working at home…
  • Well, community transmission of Omicron in New Zealand has begun... Watch this space. We have a pretty good rate of vaccination, but 5-11 yr olds have only just recently started, and a large chunk are still to get their boosters. From tonight we are stepping up to red in our traffic light system with more mask use, vaccine…
  • I do think it's very important, but all so interrelated. When I was mentally feeling my worst, I was eating for convenience because I had no energy to cook or plan anything. If I managed to do some exercise, I ended up feeling exhausted and even more depressed. I was sleeping badly and my anxiety levels were high. I was…
  • I don't exactly know what the difference was, but last January (not New Year's, but late Jan) I just got sick of everyone's else's needs being more of a priority than mine, and decided to put me first for a change. Actually, given the timing, it was probably the long school holidays and time with family - kids who were big…
  • My NSV is calf muscles. Actual visible muscle contours! When I broke my leg a few years ago, I remember being fascinated/horrified by the empty flap of skin that was my calf after the cast came off. It's quite unbelievable to me that I now have visible muscle there (they were not muscular before either). I may have not…
  • A 40min spin bike session in my garage this morning. I was a bit sore at the start of the week, so been doing lower intensity workouts for a few days, but felt full of energy today.
  • Hello from another member in NZ! I have chronic migraines, though it's mostly well-managed at the moment, which has really helped in me being able to get more focused on my health and fitness. I also had an injury a few years ago (bad ankle break) that threw me off course, and I really never thought I would be particularly…
  • MIL came round for dinner during the weekend, and said she really noticed that I lost weight since the latest lockdown...in actual fact, I have hovered around the same 3lb range for the last few months, but I have been exercising regularly, so must have had some recomp going on.
  • I do my grocery shopping using a click and collect service, and when you go to checkout, it comes up with a "have you forgotten" list of commonly purchased items. I have noticed my "have you forgotten" list has evolved from a range of crackers, snacks, treats etc to more whole foods and pantry basics (fruit, vege, oats,…
  • Cheekbones! Who knew they were hiding under there?!
  • A community case has been identified in New Zealand, so last night we entered a 3-7 day level 4 lockdown (7 days in the areas that person had been, 3 days for the rest of us....at this stage). Since then, 6 contacts have tested positive. Currently I am at home with the family - no in-person work or school. We basically are…
  • I had a slightly similar one - DH was folding some clothes and asked "is this *son's* or *daughter's*? It was mine!! Okay, it was a quite slim fitting tee that is probably just a tad on the small side still, but it's definitely mine! And there was another one he'd already put into the son's pile too.
  • I have been hovering around 141lb for a while now, so aiming to crack the elusive 140 and finally get into the 130s.
  • I wore a sports bra that was too small 6 months ago. It's probably not really a great cut for me - now looks a little big in some parts, but feels fine and was very comfortable. I'm glad I can get some wear out of it anyway.
  • Because a particular person in my life says it's impossible to lose weight at our age. And same person always makes less-than-polite comments when anyone refers to my exercise routine (even in the midst of a conversation about exercise and diet). I understand that we all make our own choices and have different priorities,…
  • I absolutely hated all physical activity as a kid. Didn't mind a day hike, and walked to friends' houses often, but that's about it. I later did some casual sports with friends, had various gym memberships at different times, but still basically hated it all. After I broke my ankle a few years ago, I then had a long…
  • Hi all - sorry for the belated intro...I joined and then must have got sidetracked, and just spotted Turtle Track in my groups 😆 I am 43 (she/her), in New Zealand with my DH, 2 kids (11&14yr) and our 5yr old beagle! Seems to be a popular choice of dog in here LOL. She's a great walking buddy. Like Christie mentioned above,…
  • Keeping up my workout routine while the kids are off school this week and next. Also I want to mostly keep up my usual eating - there will be a few deviations as we do various activities during the holidays, and that's okay, but doesn't need to derail me.
  • Tightened my watch strap another notch today to stop it sliding around.
  • I tried to do this when I was on the BC pill, but would get breakthrough bleeding, so found it easier to stick with the placebo pills so I'd at least know when to be prepared. I could run two packs together to skip one period, but and more than that and it would go off track.
  • We (Wellington region, New Zealand) have just come back out of a week of restrictions here. It wasn't really a lockdown, just limits on large groups etc. Personally, the only thing that was really affected was my entry in the Wellington Marathon last weekend - now postponed until they can organise a new date. The cause of…
  • I used to feel that way, but earlier this year started a trial for an online subscription service - access to gym workouts, lots of variety and I can pick and choose what I feel like doing. It still costs a little, but less than a gym. And I have been surprised how much I love it. I have never worked out this regularly…
in Gyms... Comment by jo_nz June 2021
  • Here in New Zealand, we are still wearing masks on public transport (trains, buses) as well as planes. We still have no community transmission at the moment, but people who have been making the most of the Aus/NZ travel bubble are asked to keep an eye on the locations of interest, and get tested if they have any symptoms.
  • I use a subscription service for my workout videos, and my Apple TV box seems to have stopped working. Instead of skipping it, I managed to use Chromecast to play it from my phone and got it done.
