Intermittent fasting on plant based diets - doesn't the sheer volume of your meals bother you?
(Note - I'm talking about eating within a 6-10 hour window every day when I say "intermittent fasting", NOT fasting 1 or 2 days every week. For reference, my diet is lots of vegetables/fruit/beans/nuts, moderate amounts of grains/tubers/animal products. No added oil/sugar/salt/junk. I eat within an 8 hr window every day.)…

Foods that smell bad but taste good, in your opinion.
The title says it all. Please post at least one such food here. I'll start with cashews. They smell fishy, at least the raw ones do, but they are delicious.

Engage your core!
I bet you've heard this one before. But there seems to be some controversy regarding how often and during what activities we should do this. I'm in the process of trying to improve my posture now, and I'd like to know what the experts say on engaging the core. What have you folks heard?

Do you wash triple-washed baby spinach?
I'm wondering if I'm the only person in the world who does this...

Bite your tongue!
While you're eating, do you ever bite your tongue or gum or anything on the inside of your mouth, resulting in pain for days or even weeks? I accidentally do this a lot, or at least much more often than I'd like. Do you have any methods to reduce these occurrences, or tips on the best way to treat them?

I started mindful meditation about 3 months ago, and I was wondering if anyone here uses it to help maintain a better diet.

Plant based - how do you get enough calories?
I want to go the whole month of January on a plant based diet. 2 years ago I tried this and it failed miserably because all I did was take my previous diet, cut out animal products, and add enough junk to make me full every day. Now I know better (I think), and I want to eat from these 4 food groups: 1) vegetables 2) fruit…

Request for fruit & vegetable shake ideas
Can you recommend a fruit & vegetable shake, not additives, nothing processed. A higher calorie/lower fat option is preferable but not mandatory.

Do you eat Durian?
Smells like rotten garlic, has a soft and mushy texture and a sickly sweet flavor with not tartness whatsoever. Sound delicious to you? The first time I tasted durian I almost hurled. My Thai gf wanted to see my reaction I guess, and she thought it was hilarious. The second time was a few years later. I didn't feel…

Food Combining - can a good combo help digestion?
I'm wondering if any of you try to follow the principles of food combining, and whether or not you feel it has helped your digestion or anything else for that matter. I believe nothing has been scientifically proven, and they are all over the board, but here is list of principles from one site: 1. Never eat carbohydrate…

Eating seaweed for iodine anyone?
I've been eating seaweed daily for about a year now to try to get more natural iodine in my diet, and keep my thyroid healthy. The trouble is, not many packages actually specify how much iodine is in it. In fact iodine seems to be a bit of a mystery, because very few products list it, and even this site (last time I…

Lowering cholesterol and controlling blood glucose - do you find my story hard to believe?
I posted the following at a diabetes forum, and was told by some members in a not so pleasant way that they find it hard to believe. This really happened to me - does it sound fabricated? "About 2 years ago I went to the emergency care unit suffering from what I though were food poisoning symptoms. They couldn’t find…

A question about bean preparation.
I've been following Fuhrman's diet for diabetics, and he advises eating lots of beans. I've been eating them regularly for over 6 months now. Before cooking, I soak them for 24-36 hours, at cool temperatures so they don't sprout, changing the water every few hours. When I cook them, I skim off the foam after they start to…

What do you think of the term "carnivore"?
Ok, I know that by one definition a carnivore can eat some non-animal food, but the definition I'm used to is "an animal that derives its energy and nutrient requirements from a diet consisting exclusively of animal tissue". So I have to admit it sounds strange hearing people call themselves carnivores. I eat about 3lbs…

How can I find my posts here?
Other than memorizing what forum I posted in, and looking for the flags, is there a way to find my content?
