Bite your tongue!

While you're eating, do you ever bite your tongue or gum or anything on the inside of your mouth, resulting in pain for days or even weeks? I accidentally do this a lot, or at least much more often than I'd like. Do you have any methods to reduce these occurrences, or tips on the best way to treat them?

I go through periods where I seem to do it more often...and once you have a sore from biting your gum it's so easy to bite down on it again. I usually use ulcer/canker sore gel. I eat quickly and wonder whether eating while concentrating on other things may not help too.

If it hurts for more than a few days, it might be developing into canker sores. A common trigger for canker sores are toothpastes with an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate, which most toothpastes have. Look for toothpastes which lack this ingredient - usually "natural" toothpastes, and sometimes "sensitive" toothpastes.

And like Buba said, you might need to eat slower too. :+1:

I too go through phases of this. I can commiserate on the crumminess of a tender mouth.

Interesting the eat slower suggestion. I tend to eat fast because my baby screeches like a banshee if she sees me eating and I'm not feeding her. To save on hearing aid costs in a few years, I eat quickly. Lol.
