Your Top 3 Episodes
I've been re-watching the 10'th lately. Out of order. This weekend I saw The Girl in the Fireplace, and it occurred to me that it is probably the best episode of Doctor Who ever aired. I figured I'd ask what episode others felt was the best, but then people often can't pick just one. So how about three? My other two…

Jackson & Pollock Body Fat Percentages
What is the thinking on these tables? Are they a better measure than the more absolutist percentages I see when seeing things like the body type images that float around? As a 42 year old male, it would seem that I'll be doing well to hit 15% or 16%. Yet such numbers wouldn't be good for a 20-something at all. Adding the…

Protein Bars
So was at the muscle head protein store the other day and the very large guy helping me mentioned something about microwaving the bar for increased palatability. This, along with a friend suggesting eating protein bar sammiches, has me wondering what else can be done with them. How about deep frying them ala deep fried…

The volume on my HT receiver must be divisible by three!
I think it's one of my few quirks... certainly the only one I'm aware of. The volume of my receivers are calibrated so that 0dB is reference. And obviously, lower listening levels have a negative reading. But whatever level I'm listening at, it must be divisible by 3. What are your weird and harmless quirks?

Two Small NSV's
The first one was a while ago: my wedding ring started fitting again. Not just some days, and not just in the afternoons, but every day, without difficulty. Second one I noted today. I could cut my toe nails without my head feeling like it is going to explode. I bet you didn't see that second one coming.

What's My Activity Level?
Seems to me that figuring out BMR is a reasonably consistent activity. One can use different methods and formulas, and get a reasonable range of result. But calculating TDEE seems to me to be rather a different story. It involves a rather squishy "activity level." Or other guesstimation of a BMR multiplier. So my question…

Lifting on a Caloric Deficit
They say you can maintain muscle, but not really put more on. OK. What is a good program for lifting specifically to maintain muscle mass on a caloric deficit? Assume the StrongLifts 5x5 compound exercises, but adjusted accordingly. Does one still need the 1g protein per lb LBM? Thanks!

Wife's Birthday Today
I gave her something she wanted a lot. She's very happy. So that's good. I also bought these incredible looking cup cakes. You should see them. You'd die. We're also going to out for dinner tonight. I suspect that neither of us shall be making our caloric goals this day. Today is likely to be the first real cheat (at least…

Ah! After Seven Weeks...
... I finally broke through a plateau. It's only a sudden 5 pounds, but it's such a relief! BTW, I did it while weight lifting, and approximating LBM, it's likely all fat that went. Yay me!

Struggling to find my plan...
This post, this request for advice, involves numbers! Be warned! In fact, here are some numbers. Current weight 213lb, male. Been that weight for about 25 days. The preview roughly two months I saw a 21lb weight loss. I started out eating rather a few calories, around 1400, and have been adjusting as I've been going. But…

Protein for the lazy
So when weight lifting and trying to lose fat at the same time, the generally accepted "formula" seems to be to run a modest caloric deficit (or none!) while eating lots of protein. That is, give your body what it needs to repair and grow muscle while encouraging it to lightly consume fat energy storage. A commonly…

Stronglifts 5x5 - Two questions
So I've decided to give this a go, but I have a couple of questions. Mehdi seems to be advocating EATING one's body weight in lbs * 18kcals per day. That would be just about twice what I'm eating right now attempting to lose around a lb of fat per week. So should I continue eating to lose fat as per MFP, or eat to build…

Ravenous When Weight Lifting
Hey, Does lifting make you ravenous? I've been dieting for a few months now with good success. After some reading I've decided I had better start lifting again to ensure I stop consuming lean body mass. I had been hesitant because I recall that when I used to lift, I would be very hungry while healing. A couple of days ago…

Losing a Bit More than Expected
Hi all, It's my first post, and I'm here to beg for some advice. I've been dieting for about 6 or 7 weeks, but only tracking properly with MFP and a working bathroom scale for 5 weeks, so everything I state is based on information in only the past 5 weeks. I've found that I'm averaging a loss of 3 lb a week. I'm going by…
