Trying to figure out what to eat and what not to eat is hard enough but I keep hearing that increasing your protein intake helps with weight loss. Any suggestions/comments?

I just started getting back on track, watching my calories and working out. The worst part is the headaches, they don't kick in til the afternoon but I don't know what's causing it. I never get headaches but ever since I started cutting back I get one every day. Any suggestions?
I feel completely lost, I'm not sure what to eat, or how much to eat, what exercises to do.. How do you get started? I don't think I can do this alone so asking for any advice, words of wisdom and support
