Don't You Freakin' DARE Give Up!!
I'm typing this after I lost over 60 pounds and I've been maintaining for over a month. I lost over 25% of my body weight going from 235 to 170 and I feel so awesome...day after day, every day. I have energy and it feels amazing to be more fit than I was even in high school. Why am I still here? Because every day that I…

Getting into Kayaking!
Haven't been in one in a while. I'm going to rent one this weekend and plan to eventually buy one. I want tips for both using them and for buying one. I figure it is a great way to balance the exercise for my arms against what I do for my legs when I run. And, I love the water. What do you use for sun protection? (Towels,…

What are YOUR rules for dieting?
Think about the rules and guidelines you set for yourself to achieve your personal goals. I will list some of mine here. I am not saying they are right for you or that they even make clinical sense. I am just saying its what I do to make me happy and it seems to work so far. I'm not here to argue anyone's rules (although I…

Heart Rate Monitors - Dumb Question
The three commonly known ways to measure one's pulse is by checking the heart on the chest, the pulse in the neck, and the pulse in the wrist. Why do they make HRM's on watch bands that fit around one's wrist and then link it via bluetooth to a strap around one's chest? Why not an HRM on a wrist strap that measures the…

My first 10k...on my birthday! (pics)
Beautiful day for a run! Kind of wonky image as I took it while I was running. A couple minutes after I crossed the finish line. (The sun is in my eyes. I'm not really wincing in pain as it appears in the image.) LOL There were a lot of great supporters! Some of them hilarious! The band was rockin'! When it was all said…

Burned 92, 000 calories so far this month!
According to the fitbit site, I consumed 54,352 calories and burned 92,901 calories so far for the month of May. Assuming the standard of 3500 calories per pound for weight loss, that comes out to about 11 pounds this month. <----<<<< Happy Camper!

A week and a half until my first 10k!
I am not a "hardcore" runner but have been working up to jog/walking (wogging?) about seven miles a day, four days a week. I have never participated in a formal run or race of any kind. Today, I saw an invitation for a benefit half marathon for Wounded Warriors and they offer a 10k run as well. Is there anything special I…

Not sure what to do with this...
MFP has me starting each day with just over 1600 calories. Some days, like today, I add a considerable amount of calories (recorded by Fitbit) to burn. Today I had a 10-mile hike and then I helped a friend move to a new apartment. I added over 2500 calories to burn. All in all, I ate over 2000 calories today. If I were to…

What's YOUR Shoe Story?
My wife and I are watching a recent episode of Modern Family where Gloria walks around Disney World in high heels and kills her feet. The right shoes are so important for so many reasons. What's YOUR worst shoe story?!

Looking into HRM's
I keep hearing about Heart Rate Monitors (HRM's) with chest straps and i am interested in looking into one. Can those of you who have used them please post the brand and model and what you liked and disliked about them? (I'd like something small and unobtrusive, if possible.)

I need FITBIT user help!
I've had my fitbit for almost a week now. I'm still working on my love/hate relationship with it while I figure it out and fine tune the details. Here is what I am asking from you... I want to know what you have entered as your walking stride in your fitbit profile. I calculated mine by walking one kilometer and reading…

FitBit
The more I look at the fitbit, the more I want it. So, tell me... 1. How does it do for recording calories burned in a typical office (sedentary) environment like where I work 40 hours per week? 2. Where is the best place to wear it so that it accurately records everything it needs? 3. Does it automatically sync with your…

Tracking Exercise - Clearing a Dead Tree
I chopped down a dead tree and spent about an hour clearing branches and moving wood. I thought I would log it under yard work but I don't even see anything when I search for yard work in the exercises. How do I log this?

Popcorn...Does it cause belly bulge?
I have always heard bread causes belly bulge and I know it to be true. I even have the Subway guys gouge out the extra bread when I get a sub. What about popcorn? I use white popcorn kernels because I heard it is healthier than yellow popcorn kernels but its still starch, right? Is eating popcorn like eating bread as far…

Just Starting Out
I have always wanted to be a consistent runner but have never made it past being able to jog a block or so while walking the dogs. Just a few things about me: Today, I come in just under two hundred pounds on the scale for the first time since I was in high school. I want to give it another shot. When I was at 235 lbs. (my…

Our Daily Calorie Goals: Just thought of a question!
When we start out with MFP, we have a daily calorie intake goal determined by our age, weight, height and other factors. After we lose a few pounds, should we go back and revisit the goal-making process entering our new weight? It seems counter-productive, for some reason, to keep eating the same amount of calories each…
