Anyone lost lots of weight NOT had excess skin????
I am very curious. As someone who has a long way to go, I guess I am kind of looking for a little hope in the excess skin dept. :-) Has anyone lost MAJOR amounts of weight (like 100-200 pounds approximately) and NOT had big issues with excess skin???? I always hear or see stories/videos from people who do....rarely if…

Using MFP to track blood sugars
I have used MFP several years now and I only just now figured out I can use it to track my blood sugars. Banging head against desk. I feel dumb! Just simply 'tracking additional measurements' works well enough. I created a measurement for fasting, 1 hour, 2 hour, and random reads. I just backlogged a bunch of my fasting…

Tickers?
I am sure I probably missed some update or post, but what happened to everyone's weight loss ticker appearing in the forums? I mostly use MFP via our desktop computer. Not a big deal, just curious. I always enjoyed seeing other's peoples losses when I would come out to the forums. Admittedly though, I don't come to the…

Workout DVDs for morbidly obese??
I am looking for suggestions for workout DVDs that are possible for a bigger person. Not a lot of squats and lunches as my knees can not take that yet with my weight. I have found Leslie Sansone which is right about the perfect level of difficulty for me. Provides a challenge and is doable. But for the sake of variety, I…

Anyone not had Armour work out?
I feel highly frustrated with my thyroid. I initially began on synthroid and done well. My cycles regulated immediately and I lost a lot of weight. I supplemented kelp for the iodine. Things were going great except I still had some other issues(thin hair, joint inflammation) I thought maybe going on Armour would solve or…

Buying some basic weights cheaply?
What is the best place, aside from getting a find on craigslist or the thrift store, to buy weights? I would really like to get a few more. The most weight I have is 5 pounders. I hate to buy new, but thus far I only see full blown weight bench sets and things on craigslist. I wouldn't mind one, but I have no place for it…

anyone lost a LOT with this method?
Alright. I'm in. I read a lot yesterday about this, and it makes sense to what I was thinking about trying. I had thought about just eating maintenance and working my tail off. I was thinking it because I know I am deficient in b12 and iron. Many symptoms such as hair loss, and non diabetic neuropathy. I supplement and…

a week's worth groceries from the world
Fascinating link. At least to me anyway. I have no idea if anyone has posted this before, I just now seen it though. A picture of a week's worth of groceries from families around the world. I wonder how average these truly are? http://imgur.com/a/mN8Zs The pic from the USA is horrifying in the amount of processed stuff.

questions about HRM's
#1 Is there a model out there that can be both a HRM and a pedometer? Such as something you can use it to get a good idea of your burn during a workout but also wear it all day to get a good idea of your overall activity? #2 Also, with HRM's, do they figure your burn accurately? i.e. Do you input your weight, height, sex,…

How do you count your pedometer readings?
Those of you who wear pedometers...I am curious.... When you log your exercise, do you try to count all of the steps it gives in some way? Or do you just use it a general gauge of your activity? I am wearing a basic one and it is new to me. I am surprised it is as high as it is so far. Nothing grand...but still higher than…

flax seeds...whole or milled?
Which do you add (if at all) to your diet? Whole or milled flax? I have seen arguments going both ways. Milled digests/absorbs better, but whole is less processed and less likely to be rancid, etc. I know it is a minor point in the grand scheme of diet. :-)

MFP Calorie average??
Does MFP have the ability to see one's calorie average for a given period of time? I have ran the bar graphs, but I was curious as to my actual average calories are over the last 30 days. I thought I should ask before I start back tracking and logging into excel manually.

Working out and the immune system?
Do you work out if you are sick? (cold/flu) In particular......What about when you are in a state of "feel bad". You KNOW you are fighting a virus...but you probably could do a work out if you really had to. Do you push and get it done? ..... or hold off another day or two for fear of getting sicker? Or another way to…

questions on strength training
I am a near total novice on this topic. We have a small workout room over at the rental office of our apartments. I am going to start using it more so I can use the weights and weight machines. I feel like I am at the point that I want to start strength training and not just doing cardio. However, I feel like a first class…

exercise videos and dvds
In case others haven't thought about it....don't forget your local library as a resources for exercise videos and DVD's. Our has LOADS of options available and it makes for a lot more variety than I'd ever buy. Plus you can try them out to see if they are too much, too little, and so on.

I keep losing track of my water intake and end up estimating. I have been trying to mark it each time in MFP I refill my bottle, but that isnt always practical if I am not near the pc. My bottle is a 24 ounce nalgene I use just solely for my water.... I like the size and I can put it in the side pocket on my purse to carry…

New to the group, hypothyroid & enlarged thyroid
Hello! I am new to this group. I actually just had a doc appt today. Back at the beginning of May I got put on Synthroid(50mcg) for being slightly hypo. My TSH was in the 5's. Previously the endo I used to see for my diabetes, wouldn't not treat my thyroid as she termed it as subclinical and wouldn't treat until it was at…

Exercise videos for morbidly obese with joint pain
I would appreciate any title recommendations of videos that would be appropriate for me. I have a lot of knee and ankle pain that make a lot of videos rather out of my league for right now. I got a couple Leslie Sansone to try, that sort of thing seems to be about the correct type of speed for me. Any other titles that…

NSV I just officially put my type II diabetes in remission
Went to the doc yesterday to check bloodwork to make sure my liver function returned to normal after it being high a couple months ago. A standard diabetes check up. Also to check on my thyroid and how the synthroid is doing. They called with bloodwork results. My A1C is now 5.4 and the doctor said providing I continue my…

Walking with children in the winter
So I have been walking a lot as part of my exercise. I usually do have to take my little ones with me. A five year old boy, and a 1 year old girl I put into a jogging stroller. I have a stationary bike too, but the walks are so nice to get outside for a while. I live in central Ohio. So we do indeed have plenty of pretty…

Are pasta weights cooked or uncooked?
Anyone know if 4 oz of pasta in the database is cooked or uncooked most likely??? I am trying estimate the chicken and noodles I made for dinner, just roughly trying to guess what was in my bowl. I put in 4 oz for just the noodles and it said 400 calories. Sound right? It was probably a 3/4 to 1 cup cooked fettucine…

Any ever reverse their hypothyroid issue?
Have any of you reversed a hypothyroid issue with weight loss? or other means? In my case I am only subclinical, TSH is usually a 5 or 6. But the doc did finally put me on synthroid(50mcg) a few months ago. I am also a type II diabetic, and my blood sugars are doing wonderful. I am getting close to the point where I might…

How do I know what pain need pushed through?
This came up on another thread, and I thought I should start it as a seperate question. First I am 34 and weight 318. Jumping, lunging, squating feels utterly impossible as the knee pain is immediate and intense. How can I know what pain I can safely push through, versus causing joint damage or something? I also do have to…

Newbie, with a LONG way to go
Hello! My name is Eleanor. I am very new to the site, but not to trying to lose weight. I have a very long way to go. I had gotten up to 335 recently but I have managed to get down to 318.4. I had lost that a couple times this summer. The first was in 2 weeks of low carbing it. Here recently was largely due to being sick.…
